Good information. I am a self taught quilter, started with an old thrift store book. Didn’t know a lot of these tips. Love your show and your patterns. Thanks for those reminders.
Thank you -- that was very helpful. I appreciate how you are walking us through the basics. I've been sewing for a few years; but, it never hurts to have a refresher course.
Everyone needs a refresher tutorial now and again. I thought the Best Press was for wrinkles only, didn’t think about using it to set seams!! Yes I remember my mom using a glass bottle with a cork end that sprinkled water to iron clothes. Still love hearing the hissing sound of the hot iron on the wet fabric! Thank you. Very helpful information!
I never thought about cutting strip piecing first before ironing open....very clever, going to try this way. It really makes sense to keep that seam from warping. This is another WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT moment for me. I do so enjoy your videos and appreciate you and your crew's hard work😁
Haha, you brought back fond memories--my mom dampened clothes the same way! My summertime chore was ironing, so I'd unroll and watch soaps, too. Love your shows and the kits.
I always set my seams and Best Press is the greatest! I just purchased a clapper and love it. Wish I had bought one years ago. I also use a Steady Betty and not a wool mat. (haven't tried a wool mat because I love the Steady Betty!) Thanks!
Love, Love, Love your video today.......also fun to learn how other people do things! Such good inspiration and makes me want to start a new quilt to put these ideas into practice!!! Thanks so much!
Great video. Great for beginners but we all need refreshers now and then. And of course I ordered the cleaning cloths and the thimbles. I can't use Best Press...I'm not good with most sprays. Oddly, I'm okay with starch. My Mom had the bottle with the sprinkler too but I just use a dollar store spray bottle. Absolutely brilliant to cut the strips before ironing open. Sooo much easier and a time saver, too. Nice to see a Rowenta out there. I love mine.
Excellent demo's in this video. And to roll those thermal finger protectors off instead of pulling them off makes me want to go find mine now. For their protection of my fingers, and for my own entertainment!!!!
Donna, this is fabulous for us beginners! I’d been wishing you had tutorials! I’ve bought most of your books & many of your beautiful kits. But I’m just starting on my 1st one…So this is timely! Thank you so very much!!
Wonderful! We are planning on doing more tips and tricks videos, so hopefully you find them helpful. That is so exciting about your first quilt! Good luck! You should share a photo of it on our Facebook page when you are finished! :)
Thanks for the great tips. Can you please tell me what kind of iron you were using? I like that the steam holes are only near the tip and the rest of the soleplate is solid.
do you have videos on sewing clothing? like knit blouses? - also, can you give a review on what we should look for in an iron? I see you have a Rowenta but there are so many options! I have no clue, so I keep putting it off and suffering with this old one I have that's barely hanging on.
My mom would put them in the freezer. We had a coke bottle with a metal and cork stopper with the top in metal with holes all over it and that is the way that we "sprinkle" our clothes with that and then into the freezer!!!

It's always good to get back to the basics every once and a while!
This was so helpful, it is making a huge difference in my piecing.

You're so welcome!

I understand. I've not tried the Steady Betty, but hear good things about it. Donna
My grandma had the soda bottle with the sprinkle top too!! Thanks for sharing all of these tips and products to make things easier!!!😁
Hi Donna! Thanks for these great ironing/pressing tips and tricks. Do you ever use a clapper?
No I haven't used one but I know several people who love them. Donna
Tks Donna! What a terrific job explaining the pressing process! Also this Daisy Shimmer is adorable… just might have to order 😎

I like your top, good tips and also sometimes we need a refresher on things
Nice tutorial, but you forgot to mention your wonderful binding needles!!! Oh my gosh, what great needles, nice a long and easy to use.

Hi Rheba, It is a Rowenta Steam Force. Glad you liked the video! Donna
Awesome tutorial 🙂.
Glad you liked it! We plan on continuing our Tips & Tricks series in the future, so keep an eye out!

I like an iron that heat rapidly and delivers lots of steam! Donna

Donna, your blouse 👚 is beautiful.
Do you remember From These Roots, Secret Storm, The Doctors?
Haha, I remember Mom watching As the World Turns...
Thanks!
Welcome!
Oh goodness my Mom did the same thing of putting damp clothes in the refrigerator!
Oh, yes, my mom did the very same thing.
