    Good evening I run a small firewood business like yours and Also use a dump trailer for deliveries I added a solar powered battery maintainer. Solved all my battery issues. Even through winter “NH”. Hope this helps!!

    Nice video Chris. Tall sides look ok but worried about backing into garages now. Might have to make the top side boards easily removable for those loads that don't require the extra space. Customers tree was taking revenge for all of it's cousin wood in the trailer. Looking forward to SD hunting. GNI

    Wow! Did the Tundra pull it ok? A cheaper suggestion is see if you can get long jumper cables that will reach from your truck battery to your trailer battery just in case you need it when the trailer battery dies, its not for charging just helps you get out of a bind. Great vide as always Chris!

  • @lendevonuk5479
    @lendevonuk5479 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Morning Chris, now you have fitted extension (greedy-boards) to your trailer you have dramatically increased the load on your hydraulic ram! To the point I would guess where you are maxing-out on recommended loadings! Nevertheless, you will note that the higher you trailer goes, the thinner the ram extension gets! Therefore the ‘square area’ your hydraulic fluid can thrust the ram forward gets less and less. So, the hydraulic force the fluid exerts on your ram, when you start out, is far greater than when you reach your last extension! Designers compensate for this by assuming that, as your tipper body gets higher much of the load is discharging, requiring less hydraulic thrust! So, notwithstanding circumstances beyond your control you MUST always ensure that when you tipper body gets to a certain height it is indeed discharging the load (weight) so that the smaller sections of your ram can cope! In layman’s terms, if your load is not moving, from the front end particularly, as you get higher and higher your are in trouble!! Additionally, I am sure you must know that you always must tip on flat gradients! If in doubt go back to your supplier and seek a bit of friendly advice! Cheers Len (Devon 🇬🇧)

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  ปีที่แล้ว

      The trailer is rated for a 7,500 pound load and the most I have had on it was about 5,000 so no worries.

    Chris, when you cut off the bolts the ends will not be galvanized. Galvanizing is a surface coating. You will need to paint the ends to prevent rusting. We don't think you want 32 rust streaks running down your great trailer.

    I put a battery tender brand 17w solar charger on my dump trailer, because I had the same issue where I ran out of power. My trailer came with a plug in port, but where I park it is further away from a plug. It keeps my battery topped up all winter easily. The continual dead battery issue in the trailer is the very reason we sold it and went with a 14 yard dumpster bin truck. The bin floor is a full 2 ft higher off the ground than most trailer floors so the dumped pile is higher making for a shorter dump out.

    With those side boards and larger loads I can suggest 3 mods for your tundra that I did to mine that will change your life. 1) real tow mirrors, there are a few brands out there that replace those mirrors from Toyota with something that actually help towing to be able to see. 2) Rear sway bar from TRD, seriously helps the stability of the truck. 3) Air bags for the rear suspension, really allows you to easily adjust the stiffness of the truck for loads. As a bonus I would also say since living farther north to swap out the factory halogen headlights with the factory led headlights since winter come early along with the darkerness they are a huge improvement. Love the channel

      My side mirrors do pull out, it has the tow package, but I can see fine as they are. A lot of people I asked told me NOT do do air bags because of leaking failures eventually. I might get a set of helper springs , maybe 1,000 pounders. Sway bar...good call!

Wondering how well it will hold up with so many charge discharge cycles. If its discharging below about 10 volts for any length of time it could be getting damaged. Guess time will tell.
