I've been getting a few questions about whether or not the clear coat gets shadow in it so I thought I would address that here! I was wondering the exact same thing, but surprisingly, the shadow didn't gunk up the brush at all like I thought it would! There was a very slight trace of shadow on the brush when I was done but it didn't turn the clear coat green at all!
I like my eye shadow palettes too much more than I like nail polish so I would never do this. Nor would I, like I have seen some TH-camr do, destroy my palettes to make pigments for slime.... which just goes to show that you can always take bright shiny colors and mix them into a muddy gray or brown. 🙄 I have enough nail polish to not do this. I do make my own nail polish colors by mixing half bottles together, I make a lot of mauve and lilac that way. Lilac is my best nail color.
Use your finger to apply the shadow. Using circular motions, burnish the shadow onto your nails. I feel like the warmth from your skin helps to melt the eye shadow onto the nail better.
Try to press the eyeshadow onto not fully dry nail polish with a finger. Then wait a few minutes before going over with the topcoat. I get beautiful result that way..😁👍
This is a really good way to use up pressed glitters! I've seen a few gals on Instagram using the glitters on their nails as part of their project pans or pan that palette. Such a good idea to get the most out of our makeup 🙌
OMG JENNNN 🤩🥰 thank you for the shoutout and I love that you tried this. I think it was streaky because you used a shadow with a transparent base - ones with a deeper base will not be streaky at all!!! AHHH also can’t get over the fact you just called me your friend 🥺🥺🥰🥰❤️❤️
I used to be obsessed with nail polish and looked up how to make your own nail polish years ago. I had seen videos where you can crush the shadow and then pour into a bottle of clear polish or base. You can also use loose pigments. A fun project to do with kids!
Are you me? 🤣😅 I’m the exact same. HUGE polish collection but have recently become hooked on press ons - they blow my MIND. 🤯 fake nails really have come a long way since my middle school fake nail days.
I've been using eyeshadow as nail polish for months since I saw Rebecca Morgan here on TH-cam showing this trick. I honestly can't use just nail polish, seems something is missing 😅I even use glitter that are not safe for the eyes.
The Colourpop Kathleen Lights loose pigments from way back marketed they could be used for nails, but I never tried it. Wishing I hadn’t decluttered those now-they would be perfect for this technique!
To me this is so great! I go through phases of buying polish and then not wearing it, ending up passing unused polishes on to friends - so this would save me a lot of money. Thanks for sharing this!
LOVE THIS!! I have a multichrome eyeshadow from an indie brand that's too dark to wear on my eyes, and I can't wait to try it this way!! I was so disappointed I couldn't wear it, and it was expensive...$15.00 for a 10mm pan. So happy I can get some use out of it!
This is so cool! I recently mixed a ground-up glitter eyeshadow into a base coat and made a very cool polish, but that involved permanently destroying that shade (OK in this case - too much glitter fallout). I love that you can do this with shadows you actually like using without sacrificing them!
This is amazing, what a cool look the eye shadows give to the nails. This is a great way to use old eye shadows that you cant use on your eyes but love the colors of to get a nice look.
I tried this and it worked. I was so excited, BUT it only lasted for a day before chipping. When it chipped, it kind of peeled away reminiscent of the Tinker Bell/Barbie peel away nail polish as a kid.
This is really cool!!! I also am curious about how long it will last... if/when it will chip. If you want to do a second video later with what you've learned after experimenting more and talk about wear time and how they do wear down that would be awesome!!!
That is super fun. I have actually seen this tip before from Kelli Marissa here on YT. She used the BH Carli Bybel palette. But I'm sure a lot of people have inspired this experiment. I will have to try it!
Brilliant! I have so many palettes/single & loose shadows that I wouldn't wear now that would work great for this. I don't do my nails often, but this inspires me to give it a try.
I’m so excited to play with this! The essence melted chrome eyeshadows, flow beauty desert light and jungle lights, and BH solar Flare are the first ones I’m going to try !!!
I really wanted to see what the matt eyeshadow looked like with the top coat applied, I suppose it's very simple for me to do it. This is bonkers, crazy and genius! Who ever thought of doing this originally is amazing! I've got shadows I don't use coming out of my ears, so finding a really usable use for them is literally *blowing my mind* 🤯🤯. Thank you for sharing this weird but wonderful tip with us, 💗💗
Isn't it so amazing?! I love it! I actually tried the matte shades first before the shimmers and I didn't want to seal them in with a clear coat and make them more difficult to remove before I applied the shimmers for the video (I was in a bit of a time crunch). :)
Oh wow so fun! 💕🍃🌿💕🍃🌿 I experimented with this years ago, like mixing and matching various make up products in all kinds of ways. My biggest challenge is just maintaining ANY manicure of any kind, I use my hands so much I just stopped lol!! But maybe I’ll try again!
Jen, I am shook, perhaps for the first time since that became a word! As soon as you started with the Sydney Grace I thought of my Too Faced 20th Anniversary palette; I know what I'm doing today!
I’ve seen it before but never tried it because to be honest I love buying nail polish 🙈 but I have been wondering about longevity too, so I hope you update us on that!
I saw Kathleen Lights demo this technique with Colourpop loose glitters a few years ago and they are so good. The longevity would depend on how good the clear coat is. Some do chip easier then others.
Hello, what a surprising thing ! i love the idea, and i have a lot of eyeshadow palettes i love and it's great because it make some nail poiishes for free ! Thank you so much 😊
You can do a really quick ombré nail with loose glitter or metallic pigments too. Start by painting the nail with the polish color of choice then apply a little pile of loose pigment to the skin at the base of the nail, while polish is still wet, blow it off gently and the pigment will catch in a higher concentration at the base of the nail and less at the tip creating an easy ombré. Let dry, apply a top coat and wash hands when done to clean the excess pigment off the skin. It’s kinda messy but a great way to use old eyeshadow pigments. Makes it look like you put in a lot more effort than you really did too lol
😍🤩😃 I’m absolutely doing this 😃 the longevity, I would think, likely depends at least somewhat on both the shadow quality as well as how well the top and bottom coats you use usually work as well
This idea is so awesome! I'm always so afraid to paint my nails because when I do, they look like a 3 year old did them. Also, nail polish tends to weaken my nails. The sticker "polish" tears off. I also have so many eye shadows I don't wear! Can't wait to try this! Please do more videos like this Jen! Thank you!
I’ve painted my nails this way but with pressed glitters and I don’t know how I didn’t think of doing it with normal eyeshadow?? I just tried it with my Maybelline Knock Out highlighter and WOW. Not only did it take me like two seconds to do my nails, they look great! I did one hand and didn’t wait for it to dry before I went in with the powder but be sure to tap gently so you don’t disturb it. I found if I waited too long, the powder wouldn’t stick as well. A good base coat also makes a difference too! I also used my fingers to apply the powder.
Wow I bet you could do this with a gel top coat and cure with a LED light. For a super duper long staying nail polish with all colors of the rainbow. Definitely gonna give it a try.
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing this. When Butter London discontinued my favorite shade several years ago, I have been disappointed when finding a dupe. I think I will have far better luck using eyeshadow in coming up with the perfect color. If it lasts several days … well, I’m already counting the money I can save.
I've been wondering about this, as Annette from Annette's Makeup Corner was doing this with multichrome shadows a few months ago (as well as with pressed glitter shadows since she doesn't feel safe in wearing them on her eyes). I keep meaning to try this, as I love unique polish colors. This would also be perfect for using up shadows that might be too old for safe eye use, but are still beautiful colors that need to be used! 😊 💖 💅🏻🎨💥💫

So many of us probably have huge eyeshadow collections, this is GENIUS!
I know! Especially with all our special shades!!!
I like my eye shadow palettes too much more than I like nail polish so I would never do this. Fantastic idea. I have a bunch of pressed glitter pans that I depotted and “quarantined”.
Finally a use for old eye shadow. What a fun idea.
YES! I have so much old stuff this is perfect.
Ah that makes sense! Pastels were probably not the best first choice, LOL. And thank YOU for the inspiration, such amazing idea!!
@@JenPhelps I think SG Tiara would look amazing too. Okay but now we need to try electric unicorn.
Subscribing! ❤
@@PattiInNYC thank you! 🥺🥰❤️
Rupy!!!!! 🤗💕
This is a great way to use up those non-eye safe pressed glitters, too!
I used to be obsessed with nail polish and looked up how to make your own nail polish years ago. I had seen videos where you can crush the shadow and then pour into a bottle of clear polish or base. You can also use loose pigments. A fun project to do with kids!
same! I loved doing my nails with all kinds of designs and techniques I saw on YT. then i had a baby and don't have time for all that now lol.
My problem is I have a ton of eyeshadow palettes AND a ton of nail polish AND I am now addicted to wearing press on nails instead of painting them 😂
I’m the same except lately I’m addicted to nail polish strips. 😆😩
Are you me? 🤣😅 I’m the exact same. HUGE polish collection but have recently become hooked on press ons - they blow my MIND. 🤯 fake nails really have come a long way since my middle school fake nail days.
Same!!
Omg as a nail polish junkie And eyeshadow palette junkie I’m so excited by this!!!
I'm the same way!!
Imagine how well Juvia's Place place would work for this. Thanks for sharing this.
Meesha M Oh I have some Juvia’s place palettes. What a great suggestion!
@RupyMinhas is an amazing person, creator and friend 💕 So glad you ladies know each other and you gave her a shout-out Jen !! 💖💯
🥰🥰🥰💗💗💗

I got this one powder and it's weird you buff it in and it turns to chrome almost a glass look. It's really cool. Excited to watch this!
I love the idea of matching my fingers PERFECTLY to my eye look!!!!! 😍😍😍
If you do gel polish this is even better bc gel typically leaves a sticky inhibition layer. It looks incredible with multichromes!
What a cool idea!! I am going to try this with some pigments I never use and I bet they'll look gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. 🥰

That's what I love about it too! I had heard of mixing your own with eyeshadow, but yeah...you have to be willing to let that shadow go! :)
I’m so intrigued by this. I’m so messy with nail polish this looks like an easier cleanup. Love your content🧡
That’s what I was thinking too. I might actually wear nail polish if I can use a method that makes it look less amateurish.
WOW! I’m absolutely trying it. I’m thinking about doing a sort of tie dye look with multiple colors. Thank you Jen! 🌸
This is amazing, what a cool look the eye shadows give to the nails. This is a great way to use old eye shadows that you cant use on your eyes but love the colors of to get a nice look.
Wow! I'm surprised! Would you mind doing an update on this in one of your upcoming videos?
This is such a great idea to give those eyeshadow pallets that a second life instead of getting rid of them. Love this idea and thank you for sharing.
So we’re all gonna be matching our eyeshadow to our nails now! Haha! I’m going to try with some loose pigments and loose glitters next!
This is so awesome! I will use colors on my nails that I might not like on my eyes. Plus I can use those glitter shades 😎✨
Well that is the coolest thing! Gonna try this for sure!
I tried this and it worked. I was so excited, BUT it only lasted for a day before chipping. When it chipped, it kind of peeled away reminiscent of the Tinker Bell/Barbie peel away nail polish as a kid.
Wow. What a great way to spend a saturday evening. Thank you!

I think it largely will depend on what topcoat you use. I actually went back and added a second topcoat just to be sure.
That is super fun. I have actually seen this tip before from Kelli Marissa here on YT. She used the BH Carli Bybel palette. But I'm sure a lot of people have inspired this experiment. I will have to try it!

I love @RupyMinhas she is so amazing!! Loved this video so much!! ❤️❤️❤️

I’m so excited to play with this! The essence melted chrome eyeshadows, flow beauty desert light and jungle lights, and BH solar Flare are the first ones I’m going to try !!!
I just tried it with a lavender polish. Topped it with a purple shadow from the ABH Riviera palette. It works so well. I love it . Thanks for sharing
Yay!! So glad it worked for you!!
So creative!!! I would have never thought of this either. Definitely going to try this.
Ive seen this hack in the past, i had no idea it looked so stunning! Thank you! Going to try this when i get home 😊
Wow, your nails looked beautiful! I’d never seen this technique before

My God! This is a God sent idea! I’m definitely going to try. Thanks a lot!
This is absolutely gorgeous.. I would definitely try this
Thank you Jen (and Rupy!), what a fantastic, creative idea!! I'll definitely try it!
This makes complete sense since nail polish colors are ultimately made out of color pigments…the same for shadows
Mind blown. Can't wait to try this!!!!

Wow! I'm going to try this this weekend!
Love this hack. I use my loose pigment eyeshadows that I don’t use on my eyes to make custom nail polish colors.

Great idea going to try it
My mom used to use Indian earth powder for lips cheeks eyes on her nails and top with clear coat ( 1970’s) Indian earth is still sold today on Amazon
