This was honestly one of the best nail tutorials I’ve seen on TH-cam, and just in time for a certain presumed launch tomorrow 💅😂 Looking forward to the next videos in the series!
What launch is it that people keep referencing? Editing to add it’s Holo Taco, I should’ve guessed cuz I don’t care about that brand but just leaving the info if anyone else is left out later 😃
@@ColorExpression I saved it to my favorites so I can go back to it to relearn how to do certain styles. Already went back once to see how to do the French Tip! 🥰
Excellent video. I finally did my first successful magnetic manicure. It only took me 2 hours (watched a movie though!). Mooncat’ s Forbidden Fruit cat-eyed over a black cream. Your advice is On. Point.
Im about to get a nail fill so i think im going to get a black gel and then leave it at that so i can come home and try to perfect the velvet nails. Im obsessed. Ive got all sorts of magnets that make all kinds of designs. Im ready to start practicing on my toes and also knowing that regular polish will also have the same affect. Great tutorial.
Thanks for all the info about magnetizing between coats, top coats, and how the polish settles. This is the most useful video I've ever seen on how to use these polishes!
Elaine, thank you so much for the support!!! It truly means so much 💖 I'm so glad you found the video helpful, there are more to come hopefully (very) soon! Happy New Year 🥰
I just got my first bottle of magnetic polish (Mooncat A Galaxy Far Far Away) and I'm so excited to use it but I'm also intimidated by it. I know there's technique involved in making it look good, but I have zero experience with that. Now that I've watched your tutorial, I feel much more prepared to give it a go tomorrow morning. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this video. I hardly ever use the magnetics I have, because I didn’t really know what to do other than cat eye. I’ll have to experiment with them now.
Thank you so much for this! This was so incredibly helpful! I usually do a cat eye when I use magnetic polish, but it's so incredibly time consuming and takes me up to 2 hours to do my nails because I like to have my finger on the magnet for 2-3 minutes. I recently tried doing velvet nails and I loved how pretty it was and how much quicker it was than a cat eye.
Thank you for the great video! I really appreciate when nail creators take the time explain the dispersion over time and set the right expectation for magnetics. In the beginning, before I figured out that the line just can’t stay as clean and sharp I was so disappointed with the brands and searchers. Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for this video! I am totally guilty of passing on some beautiful magnetics because of application time and I kept dropping the magnet on my nails. 😢Then I decided to experiment with using multiple magnets that i held in place with sticky clay/putty and left my fingers on them for application and dry time. So much faster and very crisp cat eye lines! Now I’ve ordered some holders for above the nail to see if they will work with the shaped magnets. Now I’m really excited for magnetic polish!❤
Hitting the magnet off your nails is the absolute worst 😅 sounds like a great method you’ve put together! I hope you end up liking magnetics a little bit more!
I'm so torn. I don't like what gel does to my natural nail, but because you can set every layer, I used to do a star sapphire effect that is just flat out impossible with lacquer.
Oh that sounds really interesting, how was it done? I’m getting some magnetic gels soon and am nervous but excited, I’ve never used gel before (but plan to do it with peelies haha 😆)
Thank you so much for this!!! I have been struggling with my cat eye polish from MoonCat. I love it and think it is beautiful, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to place the magnet. You are such a big help!!!
New to magnetics here, and wanted to learn more about it before I try. I ordered one from Mooncat, also ILNP. Thank you for doing this video for a total Newb because (I feel so dumb) even though I look at the wand every day I never noticed the circular magnet at the bottom!!!
@@ColorExpression Well, your video was already a big help! I got a magnetic in a mystery box and tried to use a regular magnet, it was doing oooookay until I did the topcoat and I didn't know to use the magnet on that. I have a Mooncat order with another one and wand and I just can't wait to try the rest of these tips out.
This was so well organised, explained and demonstrated! You did such an amazing job! Just the video I was looking for a couple weeks ago and I love so much it was you that came out with it, Kyle! Got me even more hyped for holo taco’s release now 😂
This video was AMAZING. THANK YOU for showing different types of magnetic polish. So helpful as a newbie; now I know exactly what to search. THANK YOU for showing how the polish looks the morning after. Nobody ever does this. It really helps with choosing what designs to do. Can you eventually do another video in this series featuring rectangle magnetic wands made for specific designs? I’ve only ever seen them on Amazon and can’t find real life examples of how they effectively look/work.
I'm SO happy you enjoyed it and found it helpful!! I've seen those wands and definitely want to play around with them - there may need to be a part 2 to this magnetics video, lol!
Well done and how fun! This is the first time I've had the 'cat's eye' gel and my goal was to figure out the 'why' of how it worked (because I'm a chemistry nerd) and you shared some fun ideas and explained it very well. I still don't know 'how' it happens but a great tutorial, just the same. Thank you!
@@ColorExpression You’re Welcome Kyle!! Definitely looking forward to trying more of your methods especially the velvet. I already have so many magentic polishes, but I can never have enough in my collection. 😁💅💕
Revisiting this video after buying my first magnetics (cirque colors). I cannot get the S curve. The first spot works but when I go to the opposite side, there’s no budge in the pigments-so it’s not an S curve but a black hole in one corner. I’ve tried switching sides immediately and it still didn’t work. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I forgot you had mentioned using the same brand top coat; I was just wondering if I should try that. I was going to grab ILNP new top coat but now wonder if I should grab cirque’s despite the lower reviews.
Hmm, I'd recommend maybe trying a thicker coat when doing your S-curve design? Sometimes the formulas just dry down a little too quickly for the magnet so applying more polish in the coat should keep it wetter for slightly longer. Let me know if this helps or if you run into any other funki-ness!
This may seem obvious but if you hold the wand over the polish for longer on each coat the pigments won't spread out as much as it gives more time for the polish to set and hold the pigments in place better. Also I have to disagree with the Holo Taco top coat. I've used it over magnetic polish every time and there's plenty of time for me to use the magnet while also drying quickly enough that the pigment is set well without have to sit forever with the wand.
You have an impeccable application for any polish! I was amazed, especially after watching quite a few youtubers stating that this or that polish was streaky - in your hands, everything comes out perfect! Thank you for all the work!
Thanks for this, very cool! I've been speeding it up by only holding the magnet over the final + topcoat layers, so it was useful to see the comparison between doing that and magnetizing every layer. Think I'll try splitting the difference by painting on top of the magnet, and then holding the wand longer for those final layers.
Thank you for this video, it was very informative! I only have two magnetic polishes, but I love them, they look so beautiful, and it's amazing how many ways you can play with the magnetic design! :)
this is an amazing video, I didn't think I would find exactly what I needed. Thank you so much, the quality is amazing too. More technique videos like this please!
Thank you for this. I have a few magnetic polishes, but I've limited myself to cat eye effect because it's the simplest one to do. Will be trying some of these other ones now that I can wrap my head around them.
Love love love this video! Im an at home gel manicure diy (i have an expired cosmetology license looking to get it reinstated) and just bought my first magnet polish. My non dominant hand looks great, dominant hand not so much😂. After watching this i understand what i dad right and wrong, i also didn't know all of the different ways it could be used. Just watched this again as I received some cat eye polishes and need lots of help with them. This vid is saved in my library. Seeing your vid again reminds me of how dang funny you are! Thank you for sharing and the many smiles. I need lots of work playing with magnets 🙄. Have a great day! KEVIN! ✌️💕
@@ColorExpression You are welcome. 😃 the cat eye journey continues. Of course I’m blaming my problems on magnets that don’t work should have bought a better grade polish…etc, etc. I need to keep playing with the magnetic polishes that is for sure. I’ll keep watching you experts. 😉🥰
Such a wonderfully complete vid! I’ve just started playing with magnetic polish and boy do I have some homework/experimenting to do. Thank You for sharing! 😊
I just tried magnetic polishes for the first time. They dry so fast LOL You have to be really quick with those magnets 🥷🥷 I'll definitely keep your tips in mind next time I use them!
Omg this video is amazing! Loved the cat eye tree, had no idea crystal and velvet were separate things, and I had been considering trying some form of the French effect so this video was overall very helpful!
Very good summary of what magnetic polish is all about! I think my problem is most likely that my magnets are all the super old shaped magnets from way back in the day, though it's possible that the old magnetic polishes just don't work as well either. I definitely need to get a wand but until then I have some round tiny rare earth magnets that might work for the round magnet designs you demonstrated.
I find some need a good pre-application shake to make sure the pigments are all mixed in well! I hope you get them to play nicely 🤩 thank is for watching Leah!
So good, Ive been looking all over TH-cam for a video likes this. I have couple magnetic nail polishs and have been growing tired of the same cat eye. Thank you so much for a thorough video like this one!
Wow! Really loved your comprehensive explanation! I’ve just gotten my magnetic nail polish and was looking for a video just like this one. Hopefully I’ll be able to create a nice art today.
Loved this video! It must have taken a lot of time and work. I like magnetic polishes but they definitely are time consuming! Also I think it would be cool if there were special magnets that created different designs 🤔 I wonder if that exists
I didn’t highlight it too much since it was limited edition and no longer in production but it’s Oracle by Cirque Colors! They do ‘bring back’ shades tho so if you message them maybe they’ll add it to a future list! 🥰💟
Such a great video! I absolutely love magnetic polishes, probably my favourite special finish. Your swatches of those Mooncats make me think I should finally check them out, they're stunning.
I just finished watching this video, and Holo Taco just released the Magnetics Collection!!! I LOVE magnetic nail polish. They are the only reason I painted my nails after almost ten years of bared nails.
@@ColorExpression I saw magnetic polishes for the first time on a video review about Starrily. Never got the chance to buy them because they were always out of stock. I bought a random gel magnetic collection from Amazon and they have been the coolest polishes ever! They are holographic, magnetic and glows in the dark. The end! Now I bought the Holo Taco Queen's Curse, it is my first Holo Taco nail polish. I expected a little more creativity from Holo Taco magnetic collection, but I'm going to buy Mooncat and Cirque Colors also to explore. Lengthy comment! 😂 Love your videos!
Bravo on such a comprehensive tutorial! What a well-crafted video. The verbal directions were clear and your on-screen demonstration & swatches really clarified what you said.
What a great idea for a series! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for your future all about videos ! Thank you for such superb quality that you brought with this one as well as all of your other videos-always such a treat to watch them! 😊
What could possibly have prompted you to release this particular video of the series right now?! 🔍🔍🔍 😆😆 I'm very excited for this series, it will be super useful!!
Thanks for the tutorial Kyle! I've really been enjoying your polish reviews and your quirky humour and now can't wait to see more of this series. I don't yet have any magnetic nail polishes but always wondered how to create different effects :) Can I ask, do you wait for the bottom 2 coats to dry fully before placing the thicker third coat on top?
Thank you so much for your kind words! Regarding the drying, pretty much think of it the same as you would in between coats of a regular polish mani, so about 4-6 mins!
What a great video, Kyle! Very much in depth and very helpful tips and advice to get the best look possible. I Love how you broke down also the different kinds of pigments you can find with a magnetic formula. Can't wait to see what else you'll come up with in your new series "All About"! 💗💗
Hey, this was a great video. I just order my holo taco magnetic polish today and I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Now I have a better idea on what I need to do and all the different types of magnetic polishes that are actually out there.

Thank you!!
Oooh this gets me excited for your possible review of holo taco's new collection! 😍 the cat eye and velvet are deff my favorites
Coming soon!! 🤩😉
That was so informative, thank you so much!
You are so welcome, thanks for watching!
Loved the video! But one thing i didn't catch was, do I let each coat dry before the next?
I just finished watching this video, and Holo Taco just released the Magnetics Collection!!! I LOVE magnetic nail polish. They are the only reason I painted my nails after almost ten years of bared nails.
That’s amazing!! Which shade or collection did you see that made you take the leap back in?
Thank you so much for the kind words !! I’m so happy with how this one turned out 🥰
What a great idea for a series! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for your future all about videos ! Thank you for such superb quality that you brought with this one as well as all of your other videos-always such a treat to watch them! 😊
Thank you so much for all of the kind words, I really appreciate it!! Always aiming to bring you the best nail content around 😉😆🥰

Thank-you, that was very helpful.
What could possibly have prompted you to release this particular video of the series right now?! 🔍🔍🔍 😆😆
I'm very excited for this series, it will be super useful!!
Haha 😛 glad you enjoyed it!!
My first magnetic polishes are arriving in the mail tomorrow! 😄 I got three from Mooncat while they were having their sale and I'm so excited!
Absolute perfect timing! What shades did you get?!
@@ColorExpression I got Smokescreen, Apparition, and Velvet Rose! Painted my nails last night with Velvet Rose and this video helped a lot 👍
@@baileyt640 Ah yes great picks!!
Super informative, thank you!
When I saw Smokescreen I had to get it and it comes with a wand tfs ❤️
Makes the polish even better! 😆💖
This is an amazing video!! Thank youuuu❤️❤️❤️❤️
You're so welcome! :)
Thanks for the tutorial Kyle! I've really been enjoying your polish reviews and your quirky humour and now can't wait to see more of this series. I don't yet have any magnetic nail polishes but always wondered how to create different effects :)
Can I ask, do you wait for the bottom 2 coats to dry fully before placing the thicker third coat on top?
Thank you so much for your kind words! Regarding the drying, pretty much think of it the same as you would in between coats of a regular polish mani, so about 4-6 mins!
This was amazing! Looking forward to the next one 👍
This was so helpful..thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This was super informative!
Glad you found it helpful!!
What a great video, Kyle! Very much in depth and very helpful tips and advice to get the best look possible. I Love how you broke down also the different kinds of pigments you can find with a magnetic formula. Can't wait to see what else you'll come up with in your new series "All About"! 💗💗
I loved showing all the different formulas!! Thank you - excited to keep this series going 💖
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! I subscribed, looking forward to more videos like this! 🤗💚
Thank you for the sub, I'm glad you enjoyed and excited to share more tips with you!! :)
Thank you.. I loved your video ❤❤❤❤
for the top coat you recommend using a quick dry, would a gel top coat also work?
I love this !! 😍
Thank you Shannon! 🤩🥰
New to these types of polishes. I got the Vettsy soak off unicorn cat eye 02 and unicorn gel 01 gel polish …. How do I use them together?
Hey, this was a great video. I just order my holo taco magnetic polish today and I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Now I have a better idea on what I need to do and all the different types of magnetic polishes that are actually out there.
I’m so glad you found it helpful, and hope you enjoy your Holo Taco 😍🤩
