watching harvest videos at this time of year is welcome relief from a cold wet grey UK, thanks Mike. |Gleaner is a brand that I have never seen over here.
great looking country side with a shiney GLEANER!!!! L Appreciate the gleaner videos and any color if its old school!! this video brighten up my day because we are having a snow storm dec 29 in central IOWA!!!! l be watchin!!!!
Dad used to raise dry peas out in Washington in the 60's. We swathed them and then ran them through the combine on a pickup belt header then. Keep em coming happy New Year
Great video. I didn't know they grew split peas in Nebraska. From your other video, I also didn't know they grew carrots in Wisconsin, and I was born and raised there. Your channel is very educational. In Saskatchewan, they grow a lot of peas, for feed and other uses. They also bale the pea straw for bedding- curious to know if they do that here? At 10:01 I love the sound of that John Deere accelerating with the grain cart through the field. I thinking about recording that sound and playing it on exterior speakers on my Suburban, whenever I go up hill, to see peoples reactions. LOL.
@@kevinmeyer3884 ill take that argument, the deutz has 2 exhaust pipes, the m11 has one. Besides I've been running one for 10 years now, I know that sound
I love to add split peas to my soups and stews to thicken them up. I think green split peas are a little sweeter and yellow split peas are a little more earthy flavored. I also like to use lentils, they come many colors with different flavors.
Mike, which engine did that combine have in it? It sounded different from the back and right side than it did from the front and left side. What was that fan and air tube on the right side of the head for? Really enjoy you. Have a Happy New Year!
The fan is for the air reel on the head. The air bar in the middle of the reel blows air on the cutter bar to help feed the crop in plus it prevents headed loss. The air forces the cut crop farther up onto the head and really works well on low podded soybeans plus you can cut at faster speeds 5to 7 mph . We run air reels on our heads in wheat oats and soybeans.
How many air cooled Deutz motors do you find still running in these machines? This one sounds like the Cummins. I heard the air cooled Deutz motors just didn't last.
This one is painted silver instead of the old galvanized. So it’s a late nineties to 02 year range. It’d only have a Cummins engine, as the early 90s ones that were still galvanized had the Duetz engine option. In a 62 or a 72 the Duetz option was a V8 and one could tell by the dual exhaust as a giveaway during those years.
Great vid Mike. The Gleaner was going a little slower than the ones yesterday, eh? I do like pea soup, but didn't know they used yellow peas in it. I'm just thinking out loud, but isn't that 4950 a little under sized for that grain cart? I mean if it were fully loaded?
You were close to me when you were filming. Come a little farther south and I can show you combining wheat with an old 8820 and 9500 Deere. Not as cool as the Gleaners but we all can't be that cool.
@@farmhandmike that would be cool. I wish my neighbors still ran their Masseys. They used to run 3 860s. Fun to watch. Getting to be fewer of us. Thanks for your videos.
It's a Cummins. One exhaust pipe, Duetz had 2. Plus that's a 98 or newer machine since it's painted. They stopped putting Duetz in them in 1996, Cummins only after that till the Sisu in 2007 on the 5 series.
That is a clean sample... No foreign matter in with the peas.
That is the beauty of a GLEANER combine. No dockage
Great video Mike, really enjoyed it, Thank you for your time
There are 2 combines that you can hear from miles away, an R62 and R72 or the 66 and 88 series Case Ih combines. Always great hearing them
This is My favorite combine of all time! Gleaner R72s and R75s are just awesome machines! I have seen a 2wd 4955 before.
Two of my favorite company’s in one field thanks for taking us along mike
Great Video. You are Spoiling us with another Gleaner combine video. I love the sound of a M11 Cummings.
That shot you do of going between the combine and the grain wagon makes me hold my breath. Thanks for another great video!
Its not as bad as it looks but its definitely something you make sure the equipment operators know ahead of time.
Theirs just something bout them gleaners 😻
Mike you really represent my side of the state well in your videos. As a lifer of western Nebraska I want to thank you. Keep it up.
It's always great to see a silver combine👍😉
Grand pictures!
Thank you very much for that!😊👍🏻

Well, I'm not into peas much but I'm into this video for sure. Thanks Mike!😁

Thank you for your videos Mike Less
Crary air reel. They work! Interesting choice of rear tires. Good video, Mike. Older Gleaner doing a nice job!
Those L10 and M11 Cummins were the best in those Gleaners sure miss the 1995 R72 my cousin used to own.

That Cummins sounds 🔥!
Never seen those yellow peas before so thank you and thumbs up. :)
Good to see you came to my neck of the woods!

I used to love the heck out of pea soup when I was little. :D
Keep putting out the Gleaner videos 📹 I'll keep watching 👀 😎 😉 👍👍
...split pea soup.....like it......but gives me gas.....BTW.....good lookin' tractor and grain cart....
Gotta love the sound of the M11 Cummins in that combine
Got to disagree with ya . That's the Duetz engine not the Cummins. It was a air cooled engine thus the district sound

@@dalebaerg5880 okay well I'll admit when I'm wrong then!
Worked for a guy that ran an R72 you could hear him a mile away if he was pulling it
I learned on a R62 with the duetz. It was nice in the cab, but loud outside!
More Gleaner action 🖒🖒
That Gleaner lives up to it’s name because it didn’t leave anything behind it except the chaff.
Great video, greetings Johan

Seems like they should widen out that spread pattern in the back to cover more ground
ain't nothin like a straight pipe
Happy new year, to you and your family, from the imperial co California.
Lol...
Happy New Year to You!
Your finding lots of gleaners!!
Split pea and ham soup, YUM!
The Gleaner sounds like a Spitfire...
That grain cart looks huge on that jd tractor😂
How did the 4955 handle the cart when it was loaded? Looking at getting the same cart, I just don’t want to have to get a bigger tractor.

Same to you
good
Far I use to work on had a 4955, kept destroying transmissions, traded it as son as the warranty was up. Hope that wasn't the same tractor!
Should be Farm not Far oops!
Love split pea soup!
How many air cooled Deutz motors do you find still running in these machines? This one sounds like the Cummins. I heard the air cooled Deutz motors just didn't last.
Several still running. I was always told keep the cooling fins clean and they'll last a long time.

Thats about 150hp less machine, plus those machines like draper heads better than auger heads.

cummins

What kind of yield do they get?
They never said and I never asked.
Nice footage. Never liked peas of any kind though.
How many miles is this from your wheat video, appears that these peas did better than the wheat?
15 or so
Anyone notice how clean the peas were
.
Yes but guys still like to make fun of the Gleaners.
@@farmhandmike There's no reason to ever make fun of a Gleaner, ever.
That’s a big ten four.
If you make fun of a Gleaner, you're going to be bitten in the ass 😂 Doesn,t matter if it's more than 20 years old.
Must be a good crop for the bin driver to have time to film.
👍👍👍

Depends on who makes the soup.
Nobody likes pea soup mike....
