    A little tip about when editing on the iPad Pro: go into settings, under “display & brightness”, and turn off “True Tone”. True Tone is great when consuming content but when doing colour related work, it’s best to turn it off since it adjust the screen’s white balance based on the ambiant light.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yes definitely, forgot to mention that!

    • @Seitenwerk
      @Seitenwerk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Interestingly I turn that on for exakt this purpose: to preserve color for changing environments, as this was the intention of this feature, otherwise images may feel too blue or too warm depending on your lighting, when they actually are fine. I only turn of night shift as this changes the whole color output to warm tones.

    • @iEvangelos
      @iEvangelos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Seitenwerk That's what I thought. The whole point of True Tone is to give you an accurate white balance for the ambient light you're working in so turning it off doesn't make sense. What you do want to turn off is Night Shift because that warms up the images so your white balance will be off.

    Just cull using Lightroom on your ipad! Ever since I started culling in lightroom on my ipad i don't use Photomechanic any longer. It's really fun to cull that way. You're swiping with your finger rather than being glued to your desk and mouse. You can go straight from culling to editing.

    • @andy.photoandfilm
      @andy.photoandfilm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      to speed up culling in LRC just import the embedded jpg instead of the smart preview up front. Not sure if this works for LRC mobile also.

    I have a very similar workflow. I find editing on the iPad to be so much fun. It's a little bit of a learning curve but makes sense at the same time. I really love using the Apple Pencil for retouching. Being able to edit on the go using the cloud and in your comfort and not at a desk is so chill.

    Great informative video. I was planning to come up with a video list for my team who are starting to go use the iPads more- or trying to. These are people who have used Adobe for decades. You saved us a lot of time, but i wanted to mention one thing. You are so familiar with the process you use that you flew through, over and past a lot of times, where I was answering questions for 2 days related to filling in those gaps. Not complaining, as it was a very good and useful video, just wanted to mention that even for fairly advanced pro’s, but who are somewhat new to iPad workflow integration that you are too fast for them.

    If you're on the go, like we are most of the time. You could also attach a USB-C memory card reader to the iPad. This will allow you to edit directly on the go and have everything synced when you return back to the office. :-) A good way of showing shots to a client on a big screen on a shoot. Being able to offer selections, show rough edits, etc.

    really great video i've been looking for ipad with lightroom workflows and yours is the only one that i've liked so far! one quick question, when you go back to the desktop and you have the edits sync back, if you remove the photos from the synced album in lightroom does it retain the edits still? wondering because that 100GB would disappear pretty quickly and would want to make sure the edits stay with the file once removed from the syncing.

    Hey Julia great take on the iPad Pro. Have used my 2018 version and it covers most of my workflow 50% of the time. Would be nice if Lightroom did have those features in classic 🧐. Other apps are great tools to invest in like affinity photo, which is full photoshop version, with neat interface and lumafusion for good amount of video editing. The iPad is a versatile and the apple pen does wonders. Keep up the great content.😄

    Good morning, great video like all the others!
    In your opinion, I have to choose between ipad pro and MacBook Air. Which one is better as only one?
    I like ipad more but, If I choose it , Can I use external ssd as storage for images and Lightroom catalog so ipad memory is free? Or is it necessary storage images on pc/Mac and use Lightroom on ipad as mobile version connected to standard?
    Thanks a lot

    Love the tone curve in the mobile app me too. I was wondering, how do you calibrate your iMac to make sure your pictures are correctly exposed?

    Hi Julia! This is wonderful but I'm not using apple 😕I'm just starting out and can't afford to go that route yet. Can you recommend a workflow for Microsoft? Also considering doing Lightroom monthly subscription service any thoughts or recommendations? Thank you , Julia for your amazing content, talent and generosity in sharing your knowledge 😘💕💕💕💕

    AWESOME! I’m using an iPad Pro and Light Room and this was perfect. +1 on re-looking on the desktop since I often do my first edits outside with different lighting. One huge + I found with LR is that you can have it laid out for left handers in the settings so all the menus are on the left side!!

    Yes!! I edit the same way! Skin retouching is Waaaaaaaay easier on the iPad than editing on my MacBook Pro. My laptop is 2014 and goes a little slower than I’d like

      Hi Jessica! Im so happy you commented this! I have a 2015 MacBook and I get so frustrated with how it runs. It works perfectly fine but I wish it was a big quicker! Definitely going to looking gettin this iPad now instead of a whole Mac desktop now for editing purposes!

    Story time.
    I want to start photography as a hobby and I didn’t know if I should just start editing on a iPad. With this video I think I will. I thought I need my computer to do it but the tablet seems so much better to hold and actually see and much portable.

    Which iPad are you using? I just ordered an iPad Pro 12.9 in (33 cm) today. I have been editing with Capture One Pro on my iMac but they don't have a version that works for the iPad. I didn't bother editing on my iPad Air 2 but now that I am upgrading I will probably add both LR + PS back into my workflow.
    Happy that I happened upon your video today, and I am now subscribed. Look forward to your future content.

    Hi Julia! Awesome video as always. Just a question, I got the iPad Air 4, you think it's good enough to edit photos in lightroom?

    Just wanted to say how much i appreciate videos like this! Im slowly starting to learn/make a photography a business, and I have so many little questions like this, do professionals edit on ipads or is that amateur? etc. For instance, I probably would have purchased another mac desktop in the next year, but now I will be looking into ipads. :) Your videos always teach me something new, and also make me more confident in my work! Please keep them coming! xx

      Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! I personally would never replace my iMac with the iPad mostly because of retouching (for now) and video editing, but I have been meaning to try out if it could possibly replace my laptop for things like travelling - I will make another video when I find a good workflow for it all!

      But on the other hand tablet and pen are a fabulous retouching combination. There are apps like affinity that are full blown „photoshop“ variants.
      I don’t think you should spend time thinking about what a professional workflow is. I don’t think there is one, as every photographer has their own way of doing things. It’s important that you find something that works for you and is fast and not over complicated. Depending on your shootings, you may end up with 2000 so it’s better you have a workflow that works for you and is fast.
      I personally import everything into the iPad, and the. Edit everything in Pixelmator Photo as it doesn’t require me to import the images again and I can directly work with the image and raw files which also utilized iclouds photo versioning. For me that is currently my preferred workflow

    My partners builds computers, so he built me a desktop for my business/editing, plus I use a wacom, I also have a laptop for studio work with tethering (I can also edit on that if need be. When I am travelling I like to take my samsung s6 tablet.

    my mac book has been sat on my desk collecting dust since i purchased an iPad pro 2020. My workflow is now entirely set up on my iPad. The mac book is now sold and its so much lighter to travel with an iPad and pencil
