Getting asked a lot about where the files are actually being stored and being edited from. They're backed up on the hard drive, but you're essentially editing off the file that is stored in Adobe's cloud (from when you import into LR). If you edit the photo from a different device you'll be editing off a "smart preview" of that image. You'll have the option to download the original file too as an option. Thought I'd clear that up!

You mentioned at the beginning of the video that you still use LR classic as your main tool. My understanding is that you store you pictures in the cloud for editing (back up in external hard drive). Therefore you may need more than 20GB cloud storage on a long trip. Anyway, what do you do after editing with pictures in the cloud in LR classic. Do you put the pictures back in a folder structure on an external hard drive or do you mix Album structure in cloud and Folder structure in LR classic? Thx in advance.

Hi Faizal! Thanks for the thorough walkthrough:) I have a question about the export options that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere: When choosing to export DNG files, what parameters can you adjust, like image size, compatability etc, compared to Lightroom classic? In my work I often need to export batches of DNG files with specific settings, not just fill size DNG. Once again, thank you!

Cool video! I would like to ask to Adobe the same thing, to add the option of change the background colour of the app, and also I would like to have the “change colour” option in Photoshop (the one that allows you to select any colour of an image and change it with saturation, and brightness), and the option of “Dust and scratches” for portraits
Thanks for sharing the whole process! (:

Really having a hard time deciding between an iPad Air (4) 64gb with the magic keyboard and pencil or the new Pro 11” and wait/save for the extras. Wait for it to ship and wait for the pencil and keyboard as I save for a few months to get those accessories. Or get the 64 air. My budget is tight, but I’ll get the education discount. The difference between the 256 air and 128 pro is like $50. But the 64 air would give me room for those necessary accessories and no waiting. I sold my MacBook Air laptop to make this happen. I have a desktop iMac I rarely use.
Main use for iPad will be writing papers, web browsing, email, bit of zoom, media consumption and streaming, reading, editing photos, note taking and light drawing. Playing some games. It will be my first iPad in many years and I’m really excited.
What would you do? Is 64gb enough?

    • @FaizalWestcott

Hey man, that's a great idea for a video and I could probably do that. It's a complicated process working between the two and I don't think there's really a great seamless way to do it , but I can work on a video for sure. To answer your question on organizing files. I keep it simple. Year -> #_month -> "day" along with some tagline description so I can quickly identify what I was photographing that day

Hi Faizal, super useful video here, pls keep up the good work!
By the way, after finished processing your photos, what do you usually do with them? Leave them in the folder within the lightrrom mobile and waste the cloud space?
I just wonder how can you back transfer the LR mobile photos back to LR destop version, you said you are still using LR classic a lot. And after download the photos to the destop hardrive back from cloud, how can we keep them organized, say in the catalogue or something like that, with keeping the whole pack of adjustments from the LR mobile maybe?

I really enjoyed this 👍. I’m looking at getting the new iPad Pro and I’m debating what size storage to get. I use Lightroom classic on my laptop and I pay for the Lightroom and photoshop combined package so I only get 20GB of cloud storage. I was thinking of working on transferring files between the laptop and iPad via a SSD or a cloud storage (iCloud, Dropbox etc.) and then I don’t need to keep them on the iPad as such. I’m thinking it could mean not paying as much for the iPad. What sort of storage on the iPad would you recommend?

  • @gchesterton
    @gchesterton 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the video. I’m considering going to an iPad workflow using cc and keeping everything in the cloud (with raw files backed up on an external hard drive). When you import into LR is anything stored on the iPad? Is the huge LR catalog file in the cloud or the iPad? Thanks

I have been using a Lightroom desktop for quite some time now and I’m an amateur photographer and over the last year and added some of my videos onto my TH-cam channel. My biggest confusion if you can call it that, is using Adobe sync, I use obviously like most people use Lightroom on my desktop where I back up all my photographs for future use. I also understand how to sync to adobe cloud etc. And I understand how to import onto the iPad Pro images from my camera and I understand to set up folders there which will sync to the adobe cloud. However, what I fail to understand is if I then look at those images from my ipad for example via cloud on macbook pro, can I print out in full quality rather than reduced size that exists in the cloud?

One thing I cannot seem to find, is how to select a bunch of photos and apply edits to them at the same time. Like for example, I shot a full day in several locations, one of the locations (55 photos) needs uniform white balance adjustment. In any other software, I can select all 55 images and change the WB slider and it will apply to all 55 at once. In this software, however, even though all 55 are selected, the edit will only affect the one with the white selection border. Then I have to copy and paste the edits to each photo one at a time. The entire purpose of lightroom is to correct and grade many images very fast. So why is this so difficult all of a sudden?

Can you help clarify, how do I import photos straight to my iPad, if I don’t want it to go on the iCloud.
Do I have to import the photos to camera rolls/files, and then load it on Lightroom? Or can I import it straight into Lightroom.
I don’t want any photos on iCloud.

Does your iPad heat while editing? Mine does, especially when its also charging.

How did you get the photos from the SD to the external hard drive?

Ehi! thanks a lot for this video, I was wondering if you are satisfied about how lightroom handles fuji's Xtrans sensor. I recently switched to the xt4 and in Lr the raws are strange, a bit muddy in the fine detail. thanks!

Try setting sharpening to 0. Lightroom has a history of not handling Fujifilm files well

@@BR04LAN thanks, tbh I just switched to capture one, the lack of fine detail and worm effect was really annoying. I know that at the end of the day, on ig or even a small print, you can't notice it, but on C1 it's just better

I use Capture One for my Raw files and mainly use LR mobile if I want to tweak a JPEG file out of camera to share immediately

@@BR04LAN I also use C1 only for raw files, I use jpegs only as a backup and film emulation preview :)

    Hey is that a 11" pro ? I'm undecided on 11 or 12.9 :-)

When you import the photos from your hard drive to lightroom for editing it - the photos are still on the hard drive? or is lightroom coping it to the iPad's hard drive??
If yes, how can I export them back to the harddrive? thx, good video!!

    • @FaizalWestcott
      @FaizalWestcott  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Photos are still on the hard drive (they’re never taken off), they’re just being copied to Lightroom’s cloud storage

So when you deleted the files from LR CC did it also delete them from the external drive? Do you just leave all the files on the External files? Thanks, Nice video.

    • @FaizalWestcott

I’m deleting them off of LR which is technically a cloud storage. I keep all originals on the external HDD and never delete them!

By any chance does anyone know if the 8 GB model is good enough for a workforce like this? 700 bucks for an extra 8 GB of ram and storage when I already have external HDDs is a hard ask.

Hey bud, great vid. Was wondering if you ever intend to make presets for Capture One aswell? Or rather - make the existing ones available for C1. Cheers! :)

I should probably do that! I don’t use Capture One, so I’ll have to see how to make it work for C1 too

@@FaizalWestcott great news! I've made the switch a year or so ago from LR to C1 and I'm honestly really happy with it. Works fabulously with Fuji files aswell!
