Amel makes such an amazing sailing yacht I love the helm set on Amel boats and delos is the reason I love them so much
I love how the helm is protected from weather. I wish more boats would think of what it's like to sail in less then desirable conditions. It's not going to be sunny and 75 everyday on the water
You ever hear of auto pilot???
I dont think you are sailing that much. Many of the boat's people are talking about. Has protection on both helm stations.
But when they are filming its down, so you can see the lines of the boat. You should see "the philosophy of sailing Hawaii and return" there you will see a single sailor (70 years old/young).
He uses a vind vane as "auto pilot"
. Normal when you do a crossing, the number one priority is the weather !! No one sails into a storm on purpose, you try to take the best route.
That goes from huge container ships down to a 50 feet
Also you don't stand at the helm for many hours.
The norm is 3-4 hours at daytime and in the night you are always 2 people on watch for like 2-3 hours.

Beautiful boat! But I'm not sure if the forward and aft berths are appropriate for passages. Well, the forward berth is definitely no good for anyplace except anchorages and marinas, but that's to be expected. What do you guys think about the aft berth?

Amazing interior for a 50 footer.
Nice looking boat with lots of bells and whistles, but (isn't there always a but?) too many sharp corners. Going to punch nice pyramid-shaped holes in peoples heads when they slip in the head or galley in a seaway.
Seaway? That boat is too nice to actually take sailing.
Best layout for a mono hull.
Give the boat to Capt Brian and call it a day. SV Delos 2. Best thing that could ever happen to Amel yachts.

@@brettrun8575 They are thinking about a cat !! They had the talk with a couple on a Catana 431, who had been sailing for 3,5 years on the cat. Very educational to watch....
@@VirtanenDK They ruled out a cat for Delos 2, they don't like feel of them and want the ability to carry more gear that a monohaul provides.
This is like a sailboat and motor boat yacht in one I like it
wow self tacking staysail, great hard dodger & solid rails , you make other ? so called sailing offshore yachts look like day sailors
Beautiful Boat. Much much more modern looking then previous Amel's (Do Not like square windows on side tho) Love the 2 walk in showers over the Older Amel's (But they cud b a Lil bigger still tho) Love love Center control behind hard dodger with a seat! Very rare outside Amel (And for Loooong range sailing esp for couple or small crew Why wouldn't you want that?) And still a VERY Good design dedicated engine dept And entrance Outside living area separate And large! Amel's make sense long range! The 50 tho substantial less dollars then other models. Nice Vessel Classy and very usable.

God I hope not. Ever since the deal with Outremeer was done the content has taken a turn for the worse on La Vagabonde. Just my two cents.
I know that Delos was approached by Discovery Networks and Brian told them thanks but no thanks... so here's hope they resist the allure of a big payday and keep doing it their way.
tim850csi agreed. SLV content has turned to junk; I've turned off. Truly hope SV Delos doesn't trash their brand with a boat 'deal'.
I think the problem is with Riley... He seems so cocky and full of himself.

I'll confess I never would have subscribed without her because on his own He's just not that interesting. Recently in one of their videos he suggested leaving her behind so he could do a North South passage! The mans turned into a fool because of money and ego...I'm about done with him and cancelled my Patron subscription.

What i like about Delos is that they are relaxed people... and if they do the same as La vagabonde many will unsubscribe.
It's their thing, they can do what they want but they have moved so far off the topic of sailing that they've become a travel channel. Nothing wrong with that, but moving so far from what got you there will have consequences.
I have to think that there is some language in their deal with Outremer that they can't show boat issues or in any way disparage the brand and as a consequence they've had to cut way back on the amount of sailing footage that is shown in each episode.
It is nice but a small nav-station, can one order a extended desk? Why no sound?

What a great boat
No one can question the attention to detail or the quality build of these boats. What can be questioned by any old salt however is the decision to place ports into the hull. Been sailing over 47 years now in all kinds of weather and in rough pounding seas. Seen my fair share of things go wrong and never would I secure a vessel with ports such as these. Most people spending a million $$$ plus on a boat however will probably not be concerned as so many people are just seeking creature comforts for offshore or local and cruising and if you have the money, the Amel is hard to beat.
I like it! Amel has always been different and they still dare to be so. I rarely like modern designs of the last decades, because they are not built to stand the test of time and look alike too much and are not realy stylish in a more organic and refined way. That last point this new 50 lacks too... but compared to todays fashion... I still say well done. However, that does not mean I would ever buy one, because I personaly desire a boat with classical lines (where maxing out space is not paramount), made of mostly of one of the two common metals, and with a more organic design in and out. Sadly they are built far and few these days.
I agree, the 'modern' look doesn't do anything for me in a boat. At sea, things get dirty, and glossy metal and glass everywhere is going to be a pain to keep looking good.
Sign me up for that center cockpit and overall layout though!

Apparently not able to fully protect the cockpit in inclement weather. Also, the galley's a bit weak.

Has any body tried looking at a boat called Elley Grey delivered in 2012 has more features better build quality built for a couple to sail the world so also has an electric square sail for trade wind sailing and even a jaccusi under the after deck and half the price vat payed .

It only takes, a few great stock trade options, 401k/403, investments like rental properties, no DEBT and save, save, save, and before you know it you can whatever the HEAVENS you want! Yes, i had to sell my penthouse to buy the dream things i wanted, its all a trade off anyways, We all put MONEY somewhere, Im choosing high quality, so i can get what i want and sell what i dont( cant have it all or can you.............?

terranborn56 They are both unic, excelent build, with high safty, but one with french and one with swedish Style. So it's what you like. I like the Cockpit and the solid rail around the deck on Amel. So I would by the french one.
I wasn't thinking Amel vs Halberg Rassey. Simply that Amel is trying to attract new customers. Many who would consider a HR. HR fans aren't going to switch anymore than Amel fans. But new buyers should definitely check out both before making a decision.
Any buyer should visit the factory where they are made before making a decision .

SV Delos is a 53ft Super Maramu 2000, build in 2000, in Water since 2001.
in Volume the new Amel 50 is bigger than the old 53 super maramu , it has a much bigger beam
and it is 2 feet longer
This boat is very beautiful, but I can't find any justification for the price: more than a million euros
BARE PRICE: Roughly €900k (incl VAT)... maxed out with all options it’s around €1.25m (incl VAT)

The Camera work is majorly amateurish. It’s so sub-par for the price tag of these boats.
Galley should be where the nav station is
I can't tell you why, but I agree.
CW NULL because then there would be a) work spaces on three sides of the galley and b) room for a sea berth or other lounging area
You are describing the 55. I'm big fan of this layout
I like the galley location in this and the ability to hand something up through a port to the cockpit . There needs to be more handholds added and I'm sure Amel will do that .
@@thedustyhead Yes the galley on either side of the stairs is the best idea. Look at the X6 !! Toby from yachting world is testing it. Giving it praise for being on of the top blue-water sail boats.

If I were on Amel sales team, I would definetely give one of the boats free to Delos team. No one knew anything about Amel before Delos. They are famous now. Delos could keep on sailing with a new Amel boat and with Amel sails. Amel promo team is thinking very small I think.

Bye Bye dual mast Ketch design, and Kitchen is flipped to the other side... Lost sail plan redundancy, options, and you can no longer comfortably cook down below on starboard tack with right of way...
Still she's a nice Marina Princes for a comfortable floating 2br 2ba hotel on the water.
Michael Zietlow I see it as a lite Version of the 55, wich is the follower from SM, SM2000 and 54, wich all have the two Masts.
Ya, I see they still produce the 55 Ketch and this is just a one off smaller design. The 50 should appeal to first time Sailors looking for more Coastal adventures.
All that longue n laying room aft seems like a waste of space. Not everybody buys a 50 foot boat to do photo ops with the swedish bikini team.

I had written a provocative comment about this boat. It was hasty, too negative and unfair, so I decided to remove it. There are people who are not willing to listen to a different point of view.
Anyway I want to keep the discussion which followed here below. Perhaps it may interest someone.
why?
Amel makes some of the best bluewater cruisers out there. You don't even need to be a sailor to now that, just do some googling before posting nonsense.
Amel used to make good blue water boats in the past, like super maramu, but not now. Same thing can be said with other famous brands, and you need to be a sailor to assess a boat just looking at her, i.e. to guess her behaviour with rough sea, taking big waves at the bow, etc. surely these modern boats are faster but seaworthiness is another thing. Read the comment of Bel here below.
Read my answer to HighFlyingPig. There are several technical aspects to be discussed, too long to do here. Just one minor thing: the large "windows" in the double bed cabins are gorgeous but no real blue water boats would have them, they weaken the structure of the hull. Read also the comment of Bel below.
If taking a look from a TH-cam video was enough to guess the seaworthiness of a boat, I sure wouldn't be studying naval architecture. Your arrogance and supposed sailing experience are not enough to demolish the months (years?) of effort they took to design this boat. Please stop pretending you know things, cause you clearly don't.
