      Beautiful blade! Always thought it was interesting that the traditional Japanese method of joining the handle to the blade was by placing the hole in the blade slightly further forward than the hole in the handle. It forces the handle material forward when not using epoxy.

    Its absolutely beautiful! I'm with you on the coloring of the bog oak complimenting the mammoth tooth. Is it the most exotic? Jeez Lopez, that's a tough one since you've mase a lot of knives with unique handle material(s) and blade embellishments, but this one is probably in the top 3

  • @jamesgarrett3920
    @jamesgarrett3920 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey there, happy new year! That is a really cool video, it is great to see someone pushing the boundaries with different materials and methods. Your tip to leave extra material when shaping so that you get a feel for how these new materials work is great. The final product is amazing; the layers in the mammoth tooth kind of look like Damascus steel and really set off the blade and handle. Keep up the good work and keep well :-)

    Just for clarification... I’ve worked with wood my entire life for the forestry commission etc looking after woodland all over the uk 🇬🇧... where did you acquire the bog oak... because to my trained eye that looks like torrified oak not bog oak... they cook the wood at higher temperatures to give it this colour and take all the moisture oak... bog oak generally hardly shows the grain and the mottled look of your piece of wood suggests to me torrification
