I’m 64 yrs old, I began collecting Hot Wheels when they were introduced back in 1968. I still own all of my original cars and had no idea that the hobby had grown this much and have collectors conventions. This is very cool. Great video!
Absolutely awesome video mate! Loved seeing you going into the different rooms to trade you grabbed some great stuff! (Lots of nice Vettes too!) Here's hoping we get an official convention in the UK at some point. Great to see what one looks like from your perspective 🙌
Man! This makes me bummed I can’t attend something like this. I’m a recent collector and I’ve been collecting and buying for maybe 2 years I wanna say but man this looks so cool and fun to experience so far and I’d love to go to something like this some day! Can’t wait for the next days/parts. Have fun time and enjoy the time there!
Great video, I've been wanting to watch a detailed video from such an event for a long time. There are many videos, but there are none where it would not be shown how it really happens. Hopefully I'll see it here. It is also interesting to find out where and how to buy a ticket. I hope I can get there. The Easter egg idea is very cool. I wonder what they will give you.
$630/14 = $45 per car. I don't know if tax was included on that or not. Honestly there's really no way you would make that back. I know on eBay I've seen them sold for like as high as $125 and as low as $80. Let's say you sell it at $100. That's $1400. Depending on where you sell the total fee is between 11% on whatnot vs around 15% on eBay. The fees don't stop there. You have to factor in the material and shipping cost, which probably won't be too bad if you have some old boxes laying around and some card protectors that you have to buy. So let's tack on an extra 1% fee to be fair. Don't forget the cost of travel of staying at the hotel, gas (or plane or train), and we'll say that is about $400. Then don't forget about state and local taxes because of the 1099-k form. Depending on your income level that will be another 25% or so. Doing the math you will lose 37% on the initial sale. That $1400 becomes $882. Minus the $630 that you spent that becomes $262. But I'm sure you'll want to keep 1 of each car, well that becomes $63 of total profit. But then you factor in the cost of travel and you're already in the red and that $63 becomes $337 in the red. So you won't be able to make that money back by selling those cars. It's a fool's errand. Unless you're able to acquire about 100 of those cars then maybe it's worth it for just a few hundred dollars. But if you bought the cars to give away, then that's great!
Great recap, Shawn! Nice to meet you during the show at the customs tables. We'll reach out to you about our podcast and see if there's a good fit for us to chat. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Would you ever be interested in selling any of your collection?
Shawn is like a Mind Bender, I'm not doing any trades, 20 seconds later they accept his trade and give him what he wants. 😂
