Teams that demand on freshman is a really tough style to coach in the new veteran ran college basketball, he wouldn't be the coach at duke if he couldn't do it. He's a way better coach than Calipari who is kind of in the same thing.
Kentucky fan here, no way that was a scenario where Duke was out-coached. It was a great game and I think UK’s bench and experience just was a little bit more than Duke. Great game, looking for both teams to have a great season. Maybe we will see a rematch!!
I'd have to watch the full replay but it would be interesting to see how many more times they settled for jumpers in the 2nd half that didn't come off some sort of penetration or action that put the defense into a scramble situation. obviously the team and notably Kon did not have the shooting performance they would like but that was a very winnable game if just one or two of those shots fall. Down the stretch the game was decided by two plays. The and 1 by Carr when he got Maluach to jump on the fake and the first turnover by Flagg that was created by a smart defensive play by Oweh. Maluach will learn from that play and will become a more solid defender in those spots, He has already shown a good feel for when to go for blocks and when to wall up and try to force the offense to shoot a tough shot over his standing reach. Cooper will certainly learn to read and recognize when the defense is cheating in on him like that, He has already shown his ability to find open teammates off the dribble. So do I think Scheyer was out coached? Its tough to say without really analyzing a full replay to see if the team gave up on running the same stuff that was creating so many good shots in the 1st half or if they were still getting those looks and they just weren't falling.
am from the philippines. may i say something. both teams are playing good. no question duke lost. injury should be minimized. and don't forget that at 72-72, duke has the ball.
Im a Kentucky fan that's just crazy that you're even talking about that its early in the season .The shots just wasn't falling Dukes a very talented team they will be fine.Johns a good coach
If, if, if….. couldn’t you go through both half’s and done the same with Ky? If, maybe they didn’t take too many bad shots, if, they slowed down in the first half! I, mean both teams look good and could make a deep run, just give credit where it’s deserved coaching and playing!
Lifelong Duke fan here.....Scheyer was definitely out coached. Duke was gassed by the 6 minute mark. You have to use your bench.....especially with Sion hurt and Khamen cramping. Play them early otherwise they will NOT be ready at the end of the year. Obviously Scheyer didn't learn anything from last year......he wasn't playing TJ Power or Sean Stewart in early blow out games last year and they couldn't help us late in the year when we needed them. Harris and Evans are probably already planning their transfer
UK fan and I completely agree. Duke may have the most talented starting 5 in the country. But they were gassed in the 2nd half. I don't blame him for leaving it up to Flagg late, he was really their only consistent offense. But UK outscored Dukes bench like 25-6 and overall outscored them 40-26 in the 2nd half. I thought there were moves he probably should've made late to match Pope. UK went small and put Carr at the 5, that pulled Maluach out of the lane and forced him to guard Carr of the dribble. With Maluach already cramping I thought Gillis, and older experienced transfer from a F4 team would've had more than 13 minutes.
Duke will probably be 4 and 4 starting ACC play. We are not going to beat Arizona, Kansas or Auburn playing like that. Not trying to be negative......just realistic

Maluach cramping and James injury are legit the only reason UK mounted a comeback, on top of the fact that if we even shoot half of how well we normally shoot, Uk loses by 13-15.

The reason both teams didn't have normal games are because they both faced though competition. Both teams will score 100 against most teams. Both teams are are very talented. Ky won 2nd half 40-26 or so. If Ky played the first half as the 2nd Ky would have won by 15.

Yeah, they came out halftime trying to play really physical, and once Sion went out, that was when it started going downhill
Duke looked completely lost on offense the last 5 minutes of that game.....that's on the coach
