i feel kentucky would have lost this game had khaman not gotten hurt and had to leave the game, it allowed kentucky to go inside and get back in the game.
It was one of the best college basketball games. I have watched in a long time. That inbound pass with 5.5 seconds. Reminded me of the Duke's inbound to Chris Latener in 92 game with 2.3 seconds to go. Another classic UK vs Duke game.
The biggest take away for me. Kentucky didn't panic. They stayed calm, kept shooting, kept up the defense, and made big pressure plays. Gonna be a fun season.
We didn’t panic bc our coach didn’t panic, Pope was calm, could you imagine Cal on the sidelines just screaming his head off not saying anything useful 😂😂😂😂
what adjustments? only think i saw was duke's center getting hurt and leaving the game, same with sion james,. and that allowed kentucky to be able to go inside and score and get back in the game.and you're giving the credit to pope instead of getting lucky that those duke players getting hurt.
@archangelmusic13 There were adjustments, and some on the fly plays as it was getting towards the end. Duke's center definitely had a part in KY winning, but KY was already on an upwards spiral in the 2nd half before the injury. Either way, it would have been close and anyone's game.
@jonboyhst6448 Duke would have been ahead by 15 points at halftime. Then lose by 25 and Coach Cal would have gave a post game interview. Blaming the team for their off night on shooting. Pope came out in post game comments points out. YA we had some players that it wasn't their night on shooting. BUT they really stepped up on the defensive end and got us the win.
Carr was an absolute beast to take on Flagg and these guys proved to be an incredible defensive team overall. Their ability to attack dukes defense in the second half proved Pope was aware, and the team executed! Go Cats!
@erinmichaels8195 it is magnitudes of order greater than watching Cow teams plodding the fields. I went from 96 to 2001, and was there when Pope was the team captain learning all this. He now knows how to apply it.
Duke is going to be a great team this season. there's no doubt and if the NCAA has anything to do with it we will meet you guys again you can count on it
The biggest difference to me between Coach Pope vs what we had with Coach Cal is that Pope makes excellent halftime adjustments. Coach Cal doesn't know how or is unwilling to make halftime adjustments. Calipari never had a plan B. Calipari won with better talent than his opponents. Coach Pope wins with coaching ability.
BBN needed this win. We're used to the whole country hating on us. We're used to ESPN and other mainstream media being biased. But, i think we were starting to doubt ourselves and our belief in KY basketball. Things just feel different. If you're a UK fan, you know what I'm talking about. Go Big Blue
Garrison was clutch down the stretch on the defensive side. He played a key role in limiting Flaggs effectiveness, staying on the floor and up in his face affecting the shot. Impressive for him in that situation being a sophomore on a big stage.
Always immensely satisfying when the Cats beat Duke. Incredible win for the team, program, fans, and coach. Duke is very much for real. Those 3 freshmen after 30 games will be an entirely different core. Sweet to beat them
Kudos to Coach Pope for outcoaching Jon Scheyer! Magnificent production and leadership from Andrew Carr. And I definitely want to give the love to Otega Oweh! The game was tied with 14 seconds on the clock! Cooper Flagg had the ball and this was the point where Otega rips the ball out of his hands and begins the sequence of ensuring Kentucky wins the game. Otega took over the game. We will never know what would have happened otherwise, but he closed the deal.
@@archangelmusic13 And Dukes center didn't leave the game due to injury, he got a stinger with 9 minutes left and only sat for 5 min before returning to close out the game
Wow. What a change In coaching. Cal would never be able to pull this off even with more talent that he would surely have. Will be an interesting season.
Everyone is talking National Champs its still really early guys what i saw was a solid sweet sixteen maybe elite eight team. This game was a tell of two halves now that being said if they can put two halves together and catch some breaks on the injury side of things there is no reason they cant make a deep run in march overall i am very optimistic for this season and yall quit throwing so much shade at Cal he did alot for our program that said i hope we beat ark by 20
I’ve seen some sh*t talkin about Flagg givin UK the game, he had no choice but to, our boys ran Duke into the ground. Every player for Duke was gassed or “hurt” and this is how that style of coaching goes. How many times have we seen superstars lose games because they won’t pass to the vet in the game winning moment bc they wanna hit that “dagger” shot? Those two kids for Duke are gonna be great ball players, no doubt, but they better get used to winning all 40 minutes of a game because their teammates aren’t gonna be there to help, it’s how selfish ball works.
Aren’t we all a little mad we missed pope by a year with Reed, Rob, and Antonio. Would have been fun to watch. I felt big Z would have played better in a zoom style offense, he never looks too comfortable in the post. All that said, what a rich first validating win for Mark Pope. This may be the worst Mark Pope Kentucky team ever! Go cats!
Bro, calipari would have had three non-shooting bigs in there and Wagner( remember that's exactly what he did when we got down by 7 in the first half to Oakland lmfao. I said alright then it was over, and Wagner proceeded to take two three-point shots in a row without even trying to pass and missed.
you're giving all the credit to coach pope, and i think that is wrong, i think kentucky only won this because duke's center got hurt and when he left the game it allowed kentucky to go inside and score and get back in the game. it had nothing to do with coach pope.
@@archangelmusic13dude just stop. You have commented this like 5 different times. UK gutted one out and Pope coached his ass off. You’re embarrassing yourself.
This game showed our guards can’t guard physicality and mulualach or however you spell it can be a real difference maker for duke. It also showed how good we can be when one of our best players has a bad night(Robinson) imagine how good we can be firing on all cylinders. I hope Kerr Krissa cuts back on the deep threes I like the confidence but with his frame and vision he should drive and kick out
yes, and kentucky was able to come back when khaman mulach got hurt and left the game, then kentucky was able to go inside and score and get back in the game
@archangelmusic13 are you gonna put this on every comment? And yeah he got hurt but he only set out for like 4 minutes and 40 seconds. And then came back in the game. So why lie about it. Gtfoh. Take that L and like it. Duke overhyped. Nothing different this year than any other. Duke overrated.
Much respect!! But please stop saying "These KIDS" when referring to our Wildcats team... these are veteran players who most likely are offended by that. THANKS! GO POPE! GO CATS!
@atech902 nah it wasn't. It was one on one. He sucked . He couldn't dribble and he couldn't defend. He iwas absolutely horrible and the worst player on the floor. Fact

Feeling friggin fantastic!! Way to go CATS!!!
i feel kentucky would have lost this game had khaman not gotten hurt and had to leave the game, it allowed kentucky to go inside and get back in the game.
Kentucky is a final four caliber team. Gonna push for SEC Championships this year. Kentucky didn't even play their best game.

A Coach actually calling and running plays? what a concept! Its a breath of fresh air.
Yep, not just letting the would-be future pros go get their own shots 1 on 3.
Something new for sure
lol. Fun watching a coach actually coach
Shit cal did call plays. “5 stars bail me out”
@@ronin4303 we saw how that turned out didn’t we?
BBN, how does it feel to have a real Basketball Coach? Pope is da real deal baby!

Pope made superior halftime adjustments to grind out the win. He coached these players and they responded with confidence. Outstanding.
Our Coach made adjustments at the half, We not seen that in years!
If Cal was our Coach we wouldn't lost by 20

Garrison played his ass off also tonight. I love this team
Otaga is my MVP the definitive pressure and phiscality earned it, hit shots when needed... Carr was a beast!
Pope kept putting fresh legs in resulting in worn out dUKe legs and all that snappy passing to keep up with too!! Wore em out!!!! SOOO proud
25-6 more bench points than the dookies…we’re deep like the ocean, we’re gonna wear teams out
Reminds me a lot of Pitino teams. Run and gun, shoot lots of threes, and constantly subbing so players have fresh legs. I love it!
@erinmichaels8195 it is magnitudes of order greater than watching Cow teams plodding the fields. I went from 96 to 2001, and was there when Pope was the team captain learning all this. He now knows how to apply it.
Kerr didnt have great numbers but he provided a spark off the bench
Talk about halftime adjustments. UK held them to 26 points in the 2nd half after a 46 point first half.
Congratulations on the W BBN I hope my Duke squad can meet you guys again down the road

I didn't think we played very well, yet the Cats still got the W
that was due to duke's center getting hurt and leaving the game, it allowed kentucky to go inside and score and come back.

The women's team is solid too. It would be great to see both the men and women in the final four.

Hard to pick an MVP. Thus far this season I see less production and more dysfunction when Otega Oweh is on the bench compared to the other guys.

Cal would have lost this game simply at the X's and O's. This I think heralds in the end of the 5 star freshmen teams. Amari didnt have a single foul.
Robinson looked so scared... very timid and he never came around. His dribbling looked bad. Very disappointed in him.
so he had a bad game, Im sure he'll bounce back. Why the negative. New team, New school.

Yeah he was horrific. I don't know what happened. It's not like he had a bad night. He was the worst player on the floor. Doesn't make any sense.
