Herein is portrayed some of the beauty and struggle of monastic life using quotes from the Scriptures and the Holy Fathers of the Orthodox Church. Insights about monastic life from one of the senior monks at the monastery are given as you are visually taken through the Church liturgical year and the changing seasons in the mountains. This is a unique documentary of an Orthodox monastery in the 21st century, but the imagery and principles set forth are as ancient (and relevant) as those written by the 6th century instructor of monks, Abba Dorotheos. rauno thomas moss because Mount Athos in Grece its the Orthodox centre of the world, the Orthodox monks live there for over 1500 years. Life there its very diferent then enywhere in the world. Its a place where time has stoped long ago. Monks from all orthodox countries they live there only for God and they have a very strict and hard life, but they love it. Yes...but they aren't like the books the founders wrote!!! There's much new age and mystical ambulance chasing everywhere now. I'd go to the Sunday church service and be glad how the Lord gives you responsibilities in everyday life. There's an old saying, "The devil hates monasteries, but he fears the parish church."

Whereas some of the commentary which occurs at the beginning of the video presentation is very interesting, and worhy of contemplation, the entire video is, in my assessment, an derivative imitation of the much better (and far more sincere), cinematopgraphic presentation of an year spent in the Cistercian monastery of «La Chartreuse,» in the French Alps. The video, the film, «Into Great Silence,» is an far better work than this rather pale imitation, created by semi - sincere schismatics.
