Her markings are beautiful. I've never seen those types of markings on a turtle. She is a pretty little lady.
She looks like a redfoot tortoise, or possibly a cherryhead (very closely related.) And yes, they are very pretty!

All pets definitely are capable of affection. Had a client (im a pet sitter) who had a fish that was crazy sweet. Loved being pet and swam to the front of the tank whenever i would walk in. Had another client with a tortoise who loved shell scratches, a snake who loved to be held. No pet is boring in my eyes!

My Merlin ,brown box turtle, is over 50 yrs old. He came with my house sale 45+ yrs ago. He climbs on my foot n leg, "Pick me up, Mom." He eats fruit, veggies, bugs n worms.
We enjoy our quiet time in the sun. 🐢

I had turtles as a kid and one of them Twinkletoes was like this tortoise who'd follow you around. His companion, King, was shy. I was so heartbroken when they passed never got other turtles.

We´ve got a handful of different animals at our home. Every single one has it´s own personality; no matter if 4, 8 or no legs at all (snakes). They´re all loved equally and bond differently to each member of the family. I´m a grandma at age 51, filling in the same position as this lady. Shout out to her, you´re precious.
Just like with human children, the tortoise won't ever starve with a food giving grandmother. My grandma would do the same with our dogs and secretly/sneakily feed them her great cooking like spaghetti, beef stew, chicken curry, and cheese (their addiction, lol). They got a bit bigger and she would just say they aren't fat, they are just big boned! XD Welp... guess there's just more of them to love.

My grandfather stayed with us after his heart attack and, oddly, the dog started gaining weight. lol The two of them made frequent trips to the cookie jar throughout the day.
I love that little turtle those little yellow dots on his face almost look like little freckles.
That is so adorable. Grandma is just like my Nan was. Feed the animals, force feed the humans even if we were bulging out our clothes. Flash Gordan is just like my Doxie, Tommy, except Tommy doesn't have an off button when it comes to food. Love, love, looove Malti, so pretty.

I have seen a couple tortoises grow with that abnormal shell growth under proper care, but it's usually diet related. The shell shouldn't look that way on the back half of a redfoot tortoise. I've bred them so I'd know.
It's actually pretty normal for a redfoot to be this personable when you interact with them regularly. They make great pets.
Glad you said this So I didn't have to. Their shells tell alot about their diet and sun exposure.
