This would be perfect for me. I’m 6’1” and 160lbs and I always wanted a sport quad but only rode my family’s utility quads. Now im just in the market for a fun trail sport quad that doesn’t need to be a race machine but still has a clutch and is fun to throw around. The problem is I’ve only rode, I’ve never worked on them so I have no idea how to go about buying a used one without being taken for a fool and buying something that’s broke or I can’t afford to fix, and I don’t want to buy one of those cheap Chinese quads just to get something new.

You honestly don't need a huge cc quad to have fun I use to ride a yamaha yfm200 and had a blast on it had more power than I ever needed to use and would go anywhere I wanted
If the lever is difficult to pull it means you need a new cable. I suggest motion pro cables they are like butter. I could show how to replace that if youd like and how to set the tensioning correctly? Is it hard to get into second or are you missing it and landing in N? Just asking. I miss and land in N if I'm not wearing boots. This has to do with you shift lever placement most of the time.

I have the same fourwheeler, I have a 3 mile dirt road that’s ends up to my house so I always rip up and down it, the fastest I’ve got it up to was 47.6. It’s a fun quad that is very safe. I’m also 15 1/2.and weigh about 150. Its a fun fourwheeler😂
The recon is reliable as well! Although alot of people see a utility and are worried about roll overs for young kids. I'm not positive but I would guess the recon weighs more than the 250ex

I always rode that almost same exact quad but I think it was a 250 trx ex(I think) and u can whip a wheelie in 1st and 2nd and I was 5ft5 and 130 pounds
Great video bro. BTW I heard there is ONE company that makes an after market rear axle that is wider than stock. I can't remember the brand but did see a vid on it and it looked sic.
Wondering if I'm too heavy at 250 lbs, to ride the TRX at an intermediate level (fast up technical hills) & not burn it up?! I might put bar risers, to tilt them forward, so my 6'0" skeleton fits better. I was considering 1.5" wheel spacers to make the quad wider but I think I'd rather keep the 250 narrow for right rails?
Definitely go higher bars wider front and rear. I ride tight trails at nearly a 50" wheel base. The 250 is way too narrow as is. Climbing major hills is difficult but not impossible. I'm also 6'2" btw haha its not an ideal quad to "rip" on but its a fun quad to ride around on
@@BrewerOffroad Thank you for taking the time to reply, I'm a brand new subscriber to your cool channel. I'll take your advice and put the spacers to extend the axles plus a riser on the bars. I plan to get a 350 Banshee as my bike & this 250 will be for my 19-year-old son, he's 6 ft 1 in, but quite a bit lighter than me & is a less skilled rider. Hopefully I can find a gf to ride it, who's 5'2" & 110 lbs (you lucky duck!).
Haha no worries! The 250 is plenty for a beginner rider! I'm sure you're son will advance quickly and for that I would suggest a 400ex. It is reliable and mildly tempered so its very user friendly
I got my first atv when I was two then rode to when I was probably 5 then I only rode dirtbikes till I was around nine and I got my first atv which was a 350 warrior and I think it was a great 4 wheeler never wrecked or anything then I traded it when I was 14 for my car so next I believe will be a 400ex... 350 warrior is a great starter atv if your not like straight up dumb
I am 11 5'5 154 pounds I have been riding a ltz 250 for months when I learn how to wheelie it and some other stuff I'm looking at getting a 400ex or ltz 400
If you jumped on a 450 you would just have to take time and respect the power band of the 450. When you are young and get used to a 4 stroke 250 it's a big step to a 450 so it could get away from you easily. But not impossible
This video proves engine size doesn't matter when you are on a rough trail, skill and experience is the key.
Very true!

I learned how to ride a LTZ400 at 15 best damn 4 wheeler to start on cause it gets you used to the power!
Awesome video sweet trails 1 one rule when riding any Offload Vehicle Always Wear long pant always wear boots you should wear long sleeves but That's up to you it gets hot in the summer
You should've just kept that comment to yourself.
I’m 14 and I’ve been riding a 250ex for about 6 months now and it’s a really great quad but I’m now looking in to get a 400ex
I'm 14 and I want to buy my first quad, would you recommend this or nah
@@brokebaggyo8305 it’s a really good quad for starting out. It has enough power to have fun in the mountains or mud and the newer models have a semi clutch so you can learn on that. It’s easy to pop wheelies and overall a good bike
I think you convinced me to go with the TRX instead of a Raptor. Nice video!
Thanks man!
I might be getting basically the same quad the 2008 raptor 250 it doesn't have reverse and idk if you can just let go of the clutch like that but i like it.
Nice!
im 19 started on a little roketa 90cc when i was around 5 then moved up to a kawasaki bayou 250 ran that for years now i have a honda foreman 500 been riding for a year or two now im thinking of getting a 400ex for my first sport quad i feel 14 years of riding is enough and my dad said with my experience to start on a 400. its also going to be my first wheeler with a clutch.
400 is perfect because of reliability but you could also handle 450s however if you aren't racing a 400 is best. You won't have to work on it as much
I’m 16 and I’m asking for a 250ex for my birthday which is at the end of July. Thank you for this information this has given me a lot of tips and tricks. Thank you!!
Happy to help!
Just get a 400ex if you’re 16 you’re going to get bored with a 250!!!!!!!
Unless he has never ridden and his parents dont want to buy him a "race" quad. He could always ride the 250 and develop some skills then move up to a 400
I rode this thing from age 9 to 13 when I got my 87 250X then at 15 got my 400X. The 250x auto clutch made it very easy to ride especially after riding the TRX 90.
I was 10 when I got my first quad with a clutch was a Yamaha warrior 350 I recremend that or a Honda 300ex or if you are bigger and more experienced a Honda 400ex is the way to go
All good quads 👍
I’m 13 and I just bought a warrior cuz my dad bought one brand new in 98 and it’s in mint condition
Nothing wrong there!
I live my 03 trx250ex and i have 6 years of experience and i am a 5,7 158lb big built 14 year old and it fits me beautifully great bike
I felt like I was on a roller coaster watching you ride! Lol!
Thanks I think haha
That’s kind of a weird coincidence I went from a 2007 250ex it’s a great quad I have a 400ex now like you but there both good quads keep up the good work I love your vids
Thanks man!
I'm 14 150 and am riding a 400ex with stage 2 hot cams it's experience. I've been riding since 6. Good video though man.
Nice! I got my first 400 when I was 15 👍
I got a 400ex rn and I’m 12
@@jamisgoated5032 same but I’m 13 haha
You honestly don't need a huge cc quad to have fun I use to ride a yamaha yfm200 and had a blast on it had more power than I ever needed to use and would go anywhere I wanted
i have the same exact quad and the clutch is super stiff and sometime won’t shift into second but does fine with the other gears
This has to do with you shift lever placement most of the time.
i think the shifter is bad placement becuase it’s super loose and wiggly when you touch with your hand
Send a picture to my Instagram or Facebook. Link in description
I think you need a cable and shift lever
Yup, time for a new cable.
My friend always tell me to get a 400 or 450 I’ll probably end up getting one in a couple of years but the 250s are so much fun
Yeah if you are having fun on the 250 stick with it and save up your money to get a nice 400!
If I rem right, they put reverse on the 05 models and later. And them 250s are bad ass for what they are. Be safe Brother :)
man i rode one the other day and reverse is confusing as hell
@@jdabsalonson1097 HAHAHA Soooo right! and I think it was 95 and later, not 05. My mem lol
15 years old 5'11" and way 200 I have 10 years experience with fourwheelers and am riding a 1986 kawasaki bayou 300 but am doing research to buy a sport quad i also have around 3 years experience on a 250cc dirtbike
400ex all the way!
I ride dual sport motorcycles, want to bring my adult children on rides. Seems like this would be an excellent choice. Already a big honda fan with an XR650L
The 250ex/250x is an excellent quad to start kids out on once they have hit around 9 or 10 and then adults as well when they are just trying it out
Great video man I am going to buy 1 of these off my wife’s sisters husband for the kids and I was worried if I was gonna be to big if, I wanted to ever ride it
You'll have plenty of fun riding it!
My friend had an extremely hard wipe out on a 250ex
It happens
I'm 6 foot 4 but very skinny, bought a trx250 when I was 18, absolutely bomb proof quad, this shit I gave it and it never complained, would recommend to anyone
I agree!
I’ve never heard of that two stage clutch that is super neat man! Looking for a Honda 400ex right now I miss riding with my father so much
400ex is the most well-rounded Quad in my opinion
@@BrewerOffroad I bought one lol! I have an 03 Honda 400ex, Stock besides white brothers exhaust and Rejetting, aftermarket bars and a KNN Ari filter
@@BrewerOffroad I can’t wait to take it out for a proper rip
my first one was a 2004 polaris 330 trailboss for free from my aunt and i was average weight and height
I’m 17 124 to 125 pounds riding a 450 but I have a lot of experience
Nice!
Jesus you're light, I'm 14 and 162 lbs and riding a 450 aswell these 450s are great to ride and got power when you need them but that front end can up at any time
420 ranchers are sweet quads for doing farm work and riding trails. Especially if you get one that shifts out of 4x4 and into 2wd
First I was given sabos 250ex video on dif fluid change from 7 years ago, now this video….. this seems like it’s the universe telling me it’s time for a 250ex/250x shootout
Nice 🤙
Dude itll do 60. Im 225lbs 6'4 and i had one and im getting another. I got it to go 57
Dang!
@@BrewerOffroad yeah man theyre quick
Rancher350Ripper what year is your’s??
I have a 250 but instead of the factory size 22/10/9 on the back I run a 20/10/9 and it makes the quad feel alot faster
Thats what I run as well the 22 rear is a ridiculous idea
This is the exact atv I got for my first one and I got black too
Do u like it? I wanna get one
I went from riding a crf 100 for 4 years when I was 9-13 then bought a Suzuki lt250s to 15 years old and currently I’m 16 with a Polaris predator 500
Nice!
Alternatively a Honda recon is a good choice but I want the this quad
The recon is reliable as well! Although alot of people see a utility and are worried about roll overs for young kids. I'm not positive but I would guess the recon weighs more than the 250ex
Brewer Offroad there based on the same platform
Just different bodystyle?
@@BrewerOffroad I'm sure a lot is different
Just got my second ATV haven’t rode in years but I got a 400 DVX it’s crazy fast and I don’t even think they make at a anymore I wanna learn more on how I change oil, carberator, and everything else
Have this atv and lots of trails behind my house use it out their almost everyday
Yeah I actually have a 250EX and I'm looking to go up to a 400
Or a Yamaha warrior 350 they are killer
@@robertkeenan3583 thx I'll keep it in mind
Is the 250ex fast and have good acceleration
@@turkio5102 yeah max on mine is 45 to 50
It's not bad for a beginners/youth quad
That’s what I started on and that was when I was three I’m 13 and ride at least 5 miles a day and now I’m getting a 400ex
And another quad that would be good for beginners that dont want a 250ex would be a 350 raptor I just sold mine It was a good quad
A friend of mine had one and it treated him really well!
Im 11 and im saving up for this really excited to get it
Keep saving you'll get it!
@@BrewerOffroad thank you
@@BrewerOffroad how fast is it
They started clutch in 06. I had one that was made mid 05 but it was a 06 and it has a clutch
Nice I had an 06 when I was younger with no clutch so I wasn't sure
I am 14 years old I’ve been riding a trx300ex for about a year and I’m planning to get a trx400ex
Sounds good!
I’m 13 bout 130 and have a trx 250ex and trying to save up to buy a 400ex By the way I’ve had a little Polaris 150 when I was five so I am pretty experienced
i think it would be a good fit for me bc i’m 13 115lbs and i have experience on four wheelers just not sport ones and i ride hard when i ride and i think it would be able to take the beatings i give it
then after a couple months or a year i would plan to be get a 400 ex bc i’ve been riding trails at my house since i was 8 or 9
This thing hauls😀great video
I always rode that almost same exact quad but I think it was a 250 trx ex(I think) and u can whip a wheelie in 1st and 2nd and I was 5ft5 and 130 pounds
Oh yeah! They are one of the most underrated quads!
i got a kawasaki 250 and a 300 one is racing clutch and other non racing non clutch!! Im 12 and ride like a pro 20 year old person
Awesome riding trails
Thanks!
Nice video man!
@@wizz3869 thanks
I have a 06 and it has the sport cluch
Thats weird my 06 didnt... but two guys have had 06 with sport clutch now
Great video bro. BTW I heard there is ONE company that makes an after market rear axle that is wider than stock. I can't remember the brand but did see a vid on it and it looked sic.
Yeah I have found alot more aftermarket stuff since I made this video! thanks for the input!
This is what I have been looking for awhile now, I'm the same hight n weight, now I don't have to spend for a 5 or 600 ...
5:33 Was that a deer feeder at the top of a ridge 🍻🍻
Wish I never sold mine, so much fun.
The only thing is that its so old now and they dont make it anymore. It sucks they dont make alot of sport quads.
Excelent video I Like It Im did have one bit I think to Buy some like that Im from México 🇲🇽
I took a 2004 that was going to scrap an put a 3 wheeler motor in it an it’s just as rowdy an I haven’t had a good top end on it
I am saving up all my money for that quad I am 11 and I love driveing cluch my dad gave me his truck Keyes and the truck I about rold it
Check rocky mountain atv they make an extended axle for these also get a full skid plate
When I was 6 I got an 04 trx90 now in 12 and have a trx250ex but still have my90 but it don’t run
I am 11 5'5 154 pounds I have been riding a ltz 250 for months when I learn how to wheelie it and some other stuff I'm looking at getting a 400ex or ltz 400
Given your experience you should be able to handle the 400s just be sure to respect the extra power/speed.
If you jumped on a 450 you would just have to take time and respect the power band of the 450. When you are young and get used to a 4 stroke 250 it's a big step to a 450 so it could get away from you easily. But not impossible
@@BrewerOffroad k thanks
Take your time, that 250 is probably more than enough for a few more years.
Love the trx 250 bout to fix it
A friend of mine put a auto clutch in his Raptor.
"Of course, for a beginner like me, steering is very difficult because the tires are so big. Do you have any tips and tricks?"
Give it time you'll grow and build the strength to turn just fine!
Can’t go wrong with a Honda
Not at all 👍
How do you do that. Incredible control. I would be in the ditch back there.
The only thing I don’t like on the 250 is how bad you can hear your pistons.
This is true. But Hondas are famously reliable
Brewer Offroad yeah I agree, mine is a 2007 lol.still gets it
And timing chains on 400s. Drives me nuts, but it’s been fine.
Wish they’d bring back the 300ex and 400ex
I totally agree!
Thanks man! Great video!
I always wanted a raptor now I want a Honda trx
Basically got a built in rekluse auto clutch, sick
I literally just upgraded from a 1987 Honda 250EX to a 06 400EX
Nice 🤙
for my first quad I got a raptor 660
Nice!
honestly the 250ex/x's need some more power and efi my 2007 hates water cause the carb is old
Slap a full aftermarket exhaust , rejet and uni filter it'll wake it up
I had a 90 same graphics but it had no reverse or lights
Nice!
