It’s a two stroke, never lift off the throttle when going through the gears in a race. It’ll only rpm so much. Also if you like the Honda, you need to go up 1 or 2 jet sizes on the pilot jet. It will probably end up burning a piston if you don’t. Look for vacuum leaks around the intake first. The idle creeping is a dead giveaway, it’s lean. It should ping for a second, then settle down. Like the Kawasaki.
Yes sir I agree 💯. I also like the Yamaha 250 blaster it was a fun little quad to ride maybe not as fast but fun to ride and add to the collection. I ride a Raptor 700se and love it better than any ATV I've been on but I love them 2 stroke's they are some mean machine's.

@@geopioneergsxr5357 blaster has to small of a wheelbase for any kind of serious rider unless you want to sink a bunch of money into it. It's a starter quad for a 12 year old.

you're learning what we knew back in the 80/ 90's when these things were new. This is why we always bought honda's.

Before I even watch this I have to say .. PUT HELMETS on !! only time you do is to do those lame ass speed tests that have no real test of a "race" quad. Your idea of a "race" is to run up and down a paved road, short shift the tranny and look like goons in the process. You claim to want comments.. but you ignore the negative while you should be learning from them. I'll continue to watch, as it's a good source of comedy.
I couldn't agree more! Well said. He never takes notice of any negative comments, only gives a heart to the comments that say how great he is. He has no interest in learning from others.
My 87 lt250r keeps up with my friends 87 trx250r no problem and seems to handle just as well. The problem with this test is using a older non power valve LT. not really a good comparison
Honda is 2 lean. Always run fastest right before they burn a piston. Hear the idle racing when you let off throttle. Plus same sprokets on all quads would be more fair comparison. Lt250r still not running properly. Please spend ore time jetting these amazing machines. They deserve atleast that.
I agree no doubt. You’ve got to consider the gearing with sprocket and tire size to make it fair. Great video though
A simple air screw adjustment would fix the lean idle sound. If it was lean it would not start well and would have burned down a long time ago...
Def not to lean. Alot of guys think that. If it spudders like your hitting a rev limiter, it's rich. if it bogs, cuts out, falls on its face, it's sucking to much air

I feel like there's so much demand building for some new sport quads. Could you imagine a new 2022 250r or Tecate 4, they wouldn't be able to build them fast enough

One of these companies need to do a special run and bring back old school 2 strokes. They would sell like crazy.
As a 43 year old, I’m very familiar and have ridden all three quads. Each one is exceptional, but for me, I’d probably take the 250 Suzuki Quad Racer. The Tecate 4 would be a close second and the 250 R is no slouch. Man, what a lineup of quads. The only reason I chose the Suzuki is because of personal experience. I think and have witnessed Suzukis quality during this time period, even if the Tecate 4 is faster.
Honda sounds lean on the pilot to me..idles hanging too high for too long

The question I think everyone missed is, what's the gear ratio difference between all of them, and front and rear sprocket sizes. The year when each one was built, due to power changes in motor design etc. All this will make a big difference ! Great video nonetheless !!
I know the lt250r is an 85 or 86 so definitely not the fastest version of that bike
My 87 lt250r keeps up with my buddys 87 trx on every senario both stock except for exhaust we both have fmf exhausts. Year definitely matters
I have all 3 too, an 88 250R, 88 T4, and 89 LT 250R. The Honda is the best handling by far, also the best suspension. It looks like you have 85 or 86 LT. But in 87 Suzuki switch to a power valve engine, which is wicked fast. I would say it has the best stock engine. The T4 is also very fast, but doesn't have that "on the pipe" hit of the LT. The LT and T4 suffer in the chassis department. They have a single spar motorcycle-type frame, whereas Honda had the dual spar truss frame. That allowed for a lower center of gravity. The rear suspension on the LT makes it tall and tippy, and the front geometry and suspension on the T4 is lacking. Having said that, they're all fun machines.
Agreed, I have a 91’ LT with the better setup rear suspension +2 front & rear, it handles like it’s on rails

@@philipmazzuca2269 Yep, Kawi has KIPS on the 86/87 T3s and the T4s. But you don't feel it open like the power valve on the LT--it's almost like a shot of nitrous.
That is a lineup you might want to hold on to forever buddy. Not many people have all three in that good of condition and gotta say. Its rare to see. So id hold on to them.
As an owner of an LT250R, I accept it being the “slowest” 2-stroke quad in this competition. I still have a blast riding it. All 3 running at the same time was freaking awesome! You’ve come a long way Joe! Happy for ya buddy 🤙

@@Hc-rt6pe as an LT250R owner I’d have to say there are too many factors that would play a role in that statement. Rider being the biggest variable to accurately say what would be the “fastest”.. in the late 80’s when sport quad mx was an actual craze, honda 250 crushed suzuki 250…. That being said, I still love my quad and will NEVER get rid of it 🤙
@@fromex2lsturbo the Honda does handle better but the suzuki was slightly faster in a straight line it was mostly about brand recognition though and Honda was well known for a good bike so most people just stuck with them

Get a 87-92 lt250r to do a real comparison, those make 6hp more than that one in the video, have a powervalve and a 6th gear.

I had a 92 LTR and I had stock bore and stroke, but everything else was modified. Ella suspension , lone star everything and Duncan racing head and pyramid reed valve with a flat slide 38mm carburetor, Paul turner silencer. Geared for the track it was nasty till about 60 and it topped out but I burnt almost everything I came across on smaller tracks.
I grew up with a older brother and we both had Suzuki 250r’s. He “upgraded” to a yfz450 the first year it was out. I still have mine. It’s been 19 years. It looks and runs amazing still. Cool video looks fun.
It's only an honest race if both bikes have same size tires and sam sprockets otherwise your learning nothing your just running out of gear you loose top speed with those small tires the tecate has big tires

01 Blaster 200 with a big bore and a
95 Yahama warrior 350.
But your's are really nice. I've learned it's not the bike it's the driver who can make a fast 4 wheeler/bike. I want to race you with all mine.
Are these quads using stock sprockets? Makes a huge difference

I have a 1988 lt250r and I'm sending the motor out to go get bored ported and Polished but you guys need to give it the beans those motors have a lot more then what you're pushing it too
Really enjoy the racing vids. Although I would like to know the gearing of them all before hand all 3 are definitely worth keeping in the collection.
I built the 250r. I has stock gearing 13/39.
Was the Honda ported? Head milled? What year cylinder?
@@nathansumerlin8391 Lightly ported, head was not milled as far as I know, 86 cylinder.
I think the first lt250r you had on you channel was faster then this one remember it beat the banshee
What a Beautiful Sound with all 3 Quads running at the same time.
Pro tip when warming two-stroke give it a little bit of gas remember they're not 4 strokes don't just turn them on and let them idle
chuck is a way better rider than his brother. he actually rides the machine , not just stabbing the throttle and trying for the 7th or 8th gear upshift. Actually knows how to start them as well, stab that kicker and hands off the throttle.

Every 125 mx bike ive riden you could kick all day but always 1 or 2 kick with a slightly open throttle and they fired

If you don’t mind, I do have a suggestion though, after listening to the bikes run through the range. It’s very possibly due to the weather, but both the Honda and Kawasaki are running lean.
The Honda was very lean, and given what I heard, I would raise the needle by one, or fatten the main by 5 points. That’s why you had it sounding like a limiter. It would actually be faster with the jetting right.
The Kawasaki was not as bad, and simply raising the needle one may help.
The problem with raising the needle to solve a main jet that you may not have on hand, is that based on the needle taper, it can drastically change the entire 1/8-full range.
It’s best to test the needle and the main separately, as you may prefer one over the other.
You don’t want any fuel cutting when into it.

Honda sucks they are good for long running but by far the slowest out there it goes Yamaha Kawasaki Suzuki Honda IMO when it comes to speed

That Tecate needs looked at it's either running to thin or needs new sparkplug n hot coil it shouldn't bog that bad n not be so slow to pull rpm

3 of the fastest quads ever made great video definitely a Honda 250r fan myself
Used to modifie them all three for racers and the Kawi is untouchable. Was too short and not large enough but, powerwise, the only one that could have beat it was the Kadzilla 500. Was pretty on par with the Banshee 350 except for top speed. The Banshee has the highest top speed of 2 strokes because of it origin of road bike. Also, the Kawi was the only quad that used the exact cylinder and carb of the motocross. The other two were using smaller carbs and different cylinders. Was noticeable staight on sound.
do a rolling start in 2nd... thats a better way to do it so it will be more fair.
My 87 quadracer with the fat boy pipe and ported done is faster than the honda. All stock the honda rips all over the others. But port timed the Suzuki is really fast. they advance the ports a little so it RIPS....

That's an 85-86 lt250r no doubt about it. Single vertical dead giveaway. Also has extended axle. If that was stock 89 suzuki lt250r it would lead the pack but im glad to know where my bike stands(86lt250r)
That is an older Quadracer. The one you want to find has the blue engine with the power reed also 6 speed. Super fast. I had the 1988 model. I also had the 1985 model, the 88 was twice the machine. Had it for 15 years. Nice video brought back some

He don't know. A lot of these people in the comments don't either. Ltr and tecate had power valve in later years which was faster in straight line. The Honda will always handle better, but they were faster. Only 2 atvs had power valve from the factory.
87-92. The 85-86 were the dogs. I still have my 87.
My Buddy had the Honda 250 four wheeler, he would just be ahead by a nose.
Now the Honda 250r 3 wheeler was insane fast. I couldn’t touch it in the long run. That 3 wheeler could have possibly hit 80mph but you better know what your doing.
The Yamaha Tri z didn’t do well at all, they had a lot of problems.
I never drove the quadzilla 500 from Suzuki. Always wanted to.

Fun fact. Can am actually had a direct injection 250 2 stroke made for the ds 450 but did the 450 engine once honda and yamaha came out with their 450s.

When you raced those three quads make sure the gearing is the same that's what they did back in the day when they decided that the Tecate was the fastest

I agree I got the 92 the last year and with a stock piston it’s widen and extended does 87 that was on a speed trap idk mine screws and wen I had my other jug was definitely faster than that could only b bored once more so I got another jug yes sprocket and needles definitely matter I’m 45 I’ve owned 2 racers nice quads that u have tho 😊

Dude y’all need some helmet’s. I worked in the 90’s with the paramedics/fire dept and can only tell you it’s one slip up away from being a life saver.
I had a tecate. Stripped it down to restore it and lost interest because of availability of parts. Only place i could find them was a guy in new york.

But i cant help wondering if all 3 have stock engines if ones ported heads milled or just tuned better. Iv found with equal mods all 3 r very close. The Suzuki with the power valve engine makes lot of power with simple mods. I had 2 Suzukis growing up 85 and 86. Both were fast the 86 would hit 100mph with pipe porting and head milled. The honda is the better between all 3 when it comes to racing for sure. The chassis and suspension was really unrivaled for many years. Then theres also gearing makes a big difference to of course. The Suzukis stock pipe was terrible my second Suzuki was the 85 bought stock piped it big difference. Idk know much about Kawasaki iv seen them but never rode one.

You do know you have the earlier model lt250r, right? The 87-92 was much faster and a much better quad. It had the adjustable power valve. Also 87 jug has a bigger intake. I don't believe it would be outran so easily as you say if u had the later model.
Just an idea for a future build Joe… a clapped out blown 450 four stroke quad, and bolt a turbo kit onto it 👌🏼 be an interesting build with plenty of fun at the end 🔥
Just remember the next gen LT250R was a better engine and a six speed transmission.

If u ever want to come down to CARTER OFF ROAD PARK and need somebody to show u around. It’s been my back yard my whole life. Way before carters bought the land and open it to a park.
I'm just gonna say it. I can't help it. As a person who grew up riding these. I see a gazillion videos from Honda and Yamaha fans that have modified machines yet insist on racing them against stock Tecates. We all know stock for stock Tecates had the strongest engines. period. I experienced it. Don't take my word for it, read the old magazine articles. They tell the truth. I get it, you're a Honda fan, or a Yamaha fan and wish it was the fastest engine so now days with modded engines you can get away with fooling people. those of us who are old enough, know better. Mod that Tecate the way that 250R is and see what happens. I know you won't. Honda and Yamaha fanboys just can't handle that. Honda was probably the best all around machine with handling included on a track but for sheer brute power, STOCK, Kawasaki owned them all. And any of us who are being honest know it.

It's stock. No. The 250r was had upgrades. The rest was stock. So. R will b faster. It's. You hit the rev limit. Listen to motor. Do hit the rev limit it's was faster.
The Tecate might be fast , but it is the most ill handling sport quad ive ever owned.Horrible in the woods. Over 30 year later the Honda 250r still rules the pack ,and always will.LT250r is a solid quad .a no suspension ATC 110 handles better than a Tecate 4 lol.

You are missing the fastest 2....350 Banshee and 500 Quad Zilla. Your definition of racing is you have no idea!!! Playing on snow is not a race. Race on dry ground and the Lt 250 will kick ass all the way.
Im kawi all the way.... they have always been king... fastest production quad of all time... ive always heard 86mph stock off the floor.. also heard why they limited the speed of quads of the show room floor . Sounds like the honda is modified and kawi is more stock.. what sprockets are on them?..

You can not really say one is “ faster”. Because, the sprockets can dramatically change how quick or fast it is. Also, are they all stock? No after market expansion chamber? Reeds? Any porting ?

Sand dragged ASDA during the 90s and 2000s. All three are close enough that swapping riders will change the results. The Honda was always a few hundredths slower at the track unless you built a 350pv engine. Then they’ll rip. Banshee is still the king of the 2 strokes though once you start throwing money at them. This guy definitely needs to add a Zilla and a shee to the stable.
