      Related: I think you (or some other folks like Spindatt) could do a great video (or perhaps you already have) on how much 'extra bang' you get for your buck over 1k for both road, gravel, and MTB. I've watched a ton of bike vids but have not really seen this addressed with any depth. I would love to hear in concrete, experiential terms, what you get, for example, with an extra 500 spent on a suspension fork, or on a frame that is 1 lb lighter, etc.

    My first gravel bike ( and drop bar bike) was a 2019 Poseidon X. What a great bike - I loved it. The only thing that got me off it after a few years was the geometry was a bit harsh (over all frame stiffness) and I wanted more reach and a bit lower stand-over. I built up the bike with Sora 2x9, the quality of frame really impressed me. The ability to upgrade as I went made plenty of sense for a guy just starting into drop bars ( from MTB) and riding on and off the road too.
    I always recommend people starting out on a more adult and serious bike to start with a reasonable but quality frame .
    I went to another gravel bike after 3,500 miles , for the reasons I mention above). A roomate has it now with a full GRX 810 build on it and its
    STILL rockin ! I will ALWAYS recommend
    Poseidon!!

    Without going into my complete experience I suggest checking all hex bolts-screws for cross thread stripping as soon as you unbox, before assembly. Stripped thread is not warranted if you find out after use. Next replace all those screws with better quality unpainted type

    THANK YOU! I've been doing research on bikes for some time, going to buy today. I haven't found much information on the X Ambition, mostly just X and Redwood. This video helped cement my decision on purchasing the Ambition. It'll be my first 'real' bike! I'm upgrading from a far-too-small mid 90s Gary Fisher with road tires. It's my super budget gravel bike and it works hard! I think Ambition will be a smooth transition from my old Marlin. Can't wait to have a properly sized bicycle.

  • @gpeaes

    Although the tires are wider than the regular X, they both claim about the same max tire size. I run 700x42 and 650Bx1.9" on my X, no problem. I really wish this was available last year when I bought my X, as the aggressive frame geometry (road bike like) and subpar braking were my only qualms with the X. Also now it seems you can get the bike delivered AS A THRU AXLE with tubeless compatible wheels. THAT is a game changer and I can 1000% recommend doing that from the jump.

  • @InconsistentTechDad

    I ended up ordering one. I had been mulling over the redwood and x for quite a long time now. Just couldn’t decide since the redwood was too off-road oriented and for gbarlier trails I would rather just take my mtb. And the original X was just a tad too road oriented for what I had in mind. This thing is EXACTLY what I was wanting! Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow. So pumped!

    The original X will clear a 700x43 with plenty of clearance. I think the only real difference here is the size of tire supplied. I switched out my old X to 650x50 and had plenty of clearance there too. It even cleared a 650x2.1 but was super close to rubbing so I didn't keep those around.

    Another good video, but inaccurate with the tire clearances. The X comes with 700x35c, but fits 700x42 or 650b x 1.9. I have run both on my X. The change is X ambition comes stock with 700x40. Just want to clarify this for potential buyers. 🙂

  • @tibbar1000
    @tibbar1000 ปีที่แล้ว

    I live in a flat area. Most of my off-road is on logging roads and horse trails; nothing close needing suspension. I have the original X. After 30 years on rigid Trek’s it was really different. If you spend a lot of time on pavement but don’t want to feel like you are killing your bike when you hit gravel, it’s perfect. The sizing seems a little odd, but even that can be fine tuned with a new stem. The biggest surprise for me was that even with the original Kenda small block 8, fairly narrow tires it will go in sand almost as well as an old 26” with 2.2” tires.

    Poseidon rosewood great bike. Now yes in stock form it's a buget beginner bike that can keep up. But in other hand take this bike and do mods. To the rosewood and you will have a beast! And remember when racing its not all the bike but the rider. . I have owned a rosewood for 2 years it's fast and it tears up the road. Poseidon is a great company to buy from. They always great on customer service 👏

  • @sccxvelo
    @sccxvelo ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Look like another fast selling bike. Poseidon is making a name for it self that the much bigger major bike companies will have to pay attention to. Even the thru axle upgrade cost is cheaper than all of the entry level bikes. Poseidon does a better parts build at the lower price points that basic upgrades make it worth it compared to other bike brands. Based on the pictures with stock 40mm tire guessing frame could do about 45mm -50mm tires. That is a test to do is max tire size plus showing the thru axle fork upgrade.
    A team friend just gave me Raleigh rx 2.0 CX demo bike barely used sitting in their storage the past few years. Takes a 40mm with thru axle. So it settle my needs for general use, races, and longer rides. If that did not happen I would be looking at this bike to support a local bike company and get a good deal. Test rode the X size xl at the Brea, CA HQ and it still seemed small for me with too much saddle to bar drop. This new bike will be seen a lot in open among the public and hopefully the greater cycling media.

    I think what gravel bike manufacturers might want to consider is the “stand over” height when sizing. I’ve seen them name a small but the seat tube length is 520. This could be measured C to C or C to T but the bottom line is that is a long ST.

  • @cntchds

      @sepg5084 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheBikeSauce but thru axles don't really cost that much since their mechanism is actually simpler than a quick release. I honestly think thru axles are cheaper to manufacture.

    • @cntchds
      @cntchds ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I'm not sure I buy that either. Unless there is considerably more finish machining the thru axle dropout tooling should be the cost, and I would assume they need to cut new dropout tools for the different geo on the new frame.
      I'm honestly surprised they are able to source a budget-friendly disc fork with QR dropouts. Seems like that must be a dying market.
      That said, I appreciate their commitment to the price point. Entry cost of the sport is so high, and the more people have access to good quality bikes the better!

    1 point about small bike frames with "perfectly" sized sloping top tubes for small riders. Almost no bags fit in that small triangle :( . Not a minor thing either for a serious gravel rider. That frame triangle area is a very important place to store heavy items because the weight a lot easier to carry there and does not change the bike handling. I upgraded to a frame with a higher top tube that I kind of sit on with my heels on the ground. Great trade-off. Now many bags fit in my frame.

    • @TheBeatenPathJP

      @@vmxd Yes. The existing T/A conversion kit will work with the new X Ambition. You just can't order it as a build option when you buy the bike (yet) like you can with the original X. So you have to get the bike stock with QR and then order the upgrade separate. However, if you wait a couple weeks, you should be able to select the T/A as a build option and just have it come that way.

    • @tommyguns5474

      @@TheBeatenPathJP Their upgrade package makes no sense. You pay 700 for the bike (the price which includes a complete bike with QR wheels), then pay an additional 300 for the thru axle kit and you don't even get the second wheelset. I understand paying extra for the thru axle, but paying 300 (400 if purchased separately) is a rip off. Buy the time you go through all that you could have saved 100 and just bought the Redwood (I am a former Redwood owner)

      @@tommyguns5474 I don't pretend to know the logic behind the pricing from a business standpoint. I'm guessing the bulk of the cost of the upgrade is in the fork, not the wheels. The stock wheels aren't anything special (QR or T/A). For me personally, I was always going to upgrade the wheels. So for me to upgrade to T/A after the fact, I only needed the $175 upgrade option that included the fork and rear drop outs.

    Thanks for this video - but maybe for the opposite reason than you might think. Last fall I bought my son an X which I "roadified" as his run around town bike. I had FOMO about a new model coming out. However as this is clearly less road oriented, no bother.

    • @sepg5084
      @sepg5084 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is a flatbar, wouldn't an MT200 hydraulic brake set be a better choice? It can be installed on flat mount bikes using adapters or just replace the caliper with BR-UR300 flat mount calipers.
      42t ring on 12t-28t seems to be setup for relatively flat roads. I would have chosen 46t-30t 2X rings and 11t-36t cassette for a "roadified" setup, but i live in a hilly town.

      @robertmyers5269 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sepg5084 I'm in the Chicago area, the only place I've been to that's flatter is Houston. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)

    I’ve been looking for a bike which gives a more upright position. If I had the money I’d seriously consider the Jones Bike.
    I saw the X Ambition online last week and it actually does a lot of what I am looking for. The top tube doesn’t slope as much and the tires are more narrow. But for $2k less this may be something to consider.

    • @TheBikeSauce

    • @alexjohnson6462
      @alexjohnson6462 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you looked at the latest generation Pipedream A.L.I.C.E.?
      If you want a more upright geometry with a sloping top tube (it is sloped, but not to an extreme extent like some bikes which I dont really care for), this might be of interest. The tire clearance is massive while still allowing for road cranks, which in some ways makes it better than the Redwood which forces you to use mountain bike cranks. If you prefer 700c rims, the ALICE allows for much wider rins than even the Redwood, which is quite the feat.
      The only downside is unless you live in the UK, it only sells as a frame and fork combo, not a whole bike.

    This seems like a really backwards decision by Poseidon. This is the very change the Redwood needed (only a bit more agressive) before they went tinkering with the X. Makes no sense.
    The riders who are much more likely to be spending more hours on the bike and thus would benefit more from an endurance geometry are the Redwood riders since it is clearly the more bikepack oriented bike of the two. The whole point of the X is that it is the racier bike of the two.
