Here are many random video clips from our visit to Kings Island on July 24, 1980. Here you can see the entrance, shops, shows, rides, the fountain (day & night), and fireworks.
It used to be so magical to go to King's Island as a kid. I always loved the beer barrels that were next to that inflatable theater. I remember seeing shows in there and they'd tell you "in case it starts to deflate, lie on your back and start blowing." When Paramount stepped in it totally lost it for me. I'm going to give it another shot with the kids this summer.
Paramount nearly destroyed it. Cedar Fair has cleaned it up and trying to improve it so much. We bought a 2019 pass at Winterfest for here and Cedar Point.
Thanks for posting this, I believe 1980 or 81 was the first year I ever went to Kings Island and it's fun to have a video seeing what it looked like back then!
Alex Fanning took my daughter for her first time a week ago, I hadn't been there in 24 years. I told her how cool the place was and all the stuff about it and then when we get there it's all changed. the place is still okay but it just doesn't have the life that I used to have before Paramount bought it out. the atmosphere has changed and it just doesn't seem genuine anymore I long for the days when Hanna-Barbera ruled the place with their but times have changed and the people that got working there, geez. I miss the 80s
Have memories of KI then , I was 9 years old in 1980. Lived only 10 minutes from the park, went to kings middle school and kings high school. I think I was 2 or 3 the first time my parents brought me and my brother there. Still live close by in Lebanon and just visited the park 3 days ago with my kids and grandkids. A lifetime of fun and memories!
Thank you SO much for posting these videos! I was 10 years old the first year it opened and it was truly a magical place for a kid. I was searching for the Enchanted Voyage ride during Winterfest when they played "We Need A Little Christmas Now" (I was unable to find any video of that) but I did find all of your videos and took a trip down memory lane :-)
This is so cool to see. I was born in 1991 and Kings Island is my home park. I love the history of the park and to see footage this old is really awesome!
My KI memories began a few short years later, but I still maintain that the park's best days, for me personally, were pre-Cedar. The 80s and early 90s specifically. I miss those times and think of them daily.
I believe i visited in 79/80 i was 4 or 5 and rode rhe beast. No height restrictions. Remember crying on the screaming demon. Thanks for posting. Hopefully get to go back soon.
Do they still have the water fall show??? I hope they do case that is remarkable to see and would be worth keeping so many other generations can enjoy watching it. It looked like it was a fun place to go to back then and it might be fun to go there now. But I have never been there so I can not say its a blast but from all the videos I have seen threw the years. I would say I would have so much fun I wouldn't want to leave. LOL Great job on the video I remember that video recorders didn't record as well as they do now. But for us having the choice to record everything was the most awesome thing we ever got to do. We didn't care if it came out as clear as the news ones did just as long as we could record memories that's all we cared about I also remember how big and heavy they were. Man they have it way easier then we did. When we wanted to record anything we had to carry a big bag with extra video taps and batteries and it weighed so much that your shoulder felt like it was going to fall off. But we didn't care case we now had a chance to record all our memories and to us that was worth it. Loved everything you recorded and it brought back memories of my childhood and watching all kinds of adults walking around with the Big VHS recorders on there shoulders and the big black bag that had all your extras on the other shoulder and watching it for the first time on the TV got me. It was so cool to see your self on camera. They even had the tap were you could record in Black and white and that blew my mind when someone recorded me in black and white. To tell ya the truth I thought I looked better in Black and White then I did in color. This video gets 9 points :)

Thank you for posting this video. I was 9 yrs old in 1980. We went to KI almost every summer til I was 19. Brought back so many great memories.
Thanks for sharing this! I'm always telling my teenager how KI used to be when I was her age. Now I can show her, too.
You are welcome. Yes it was a great place. I loved going there. Last time I went was 1992.
VideofromGeorge I used to visit the park because I lived near it
Alex Fanning You wouldn’t happen to be single would you? Asking for a friend of course

On a hot day I remember walking along International Street feeling the spray from those fountains. That was a great childhood memory.
Thank you for posting this video! Kings Island has changed so much and not always for the better. These classic rides and characters were the best!
I was born in '77, so my memories start a few years after this. Around '83..Those were the days.
Wow, so many memories just popped up watching this. Thank you for posting.

Thank you so much for this walk down memory lane! I have enjoyed all of our KI videos so much.
I thought I might see my 5 year old self in here. But it seems I just looked like every other little kid with a bowl cut.
Wow! That brings back memories! Thanks for sharing!
I remember going there as a kid and how hot it would be but I sure had a lot of fun.

The smurf ride, the giant log flumes, and the beastie.
The Beastie is a way better name than whatever it's called today
Back in the day it was the Scooby Doo Roller Coaster and Enchanted Forest

So great not too see people's faces buried looking at their iPhones
Absolutely! No texting to see where your party was at, just a set time to meet at the Eiffel Tower
you should have more views than what is shown. I feel if you went to KI in the 80's you should watch this. Thank You
Very nice!
I remember when Kings Island wasn't just a parking lot with barf rides. I think it peaked sometime around here. Maybe mid 80s.
a5dr3 “Get off my lawn!!!”
When did they change how to sing ymca?
good times :(
Oh how KI has changed
Oh cool this was the year i was born
Kings island was a better park in the 80's for sure.
@3:17 what was the name of that ride?
I believe that was the Wheel Of Fortune Ride.
Used to go there every summer, until the paramount goofs came along and ruined it
That's not 1980 it appears to be around 1982 based off no sky lift and the show line up
Sorry my mistake it was 1980
