Trailing Rosemary has so many uses!

  • Use it on slopes to retain soil, throw it in you pasta, or just enjoy it's beauty in the landscape...Rosmarinus officinalis 'Prostratus', commonly known as Trailing Rosemary, is an incredibly useful little sprawling shrub! It's considered a ground cover and has so many fantastic attributes making it one of the most versatile plants in the landscape. It will attract birds, butterflies and bees to the garden and helps promote the wildlife habitat.
    Trailing Rosemary is also drought tolerant and will save water! And of course, my favorite use, you can cook with it! Rosemary is a culinary staple in Italian/Mediterranean cooking so this is a must-have for all you aspiring chefs :]
    Rosemary is also deer and rabbit tolerant, so for all you that have an issue with Bambi and Thumper eating your lush landscape, this one is much less tempting for them.
    Soil retention and the ability to stabilize a slope or hillside is among the best attributes Rosemary brings to the table. If you have a sloped area you need to reduce run-off and erosion, Trailing Rosemary will do the trick! It bites in to the soil nicely and it's root system helps prevent dirt wash-out from slopes.
    OK that's it...happy planting!
    Dominic

    I *JUST* bought another rosemary, I think it'll be the third time I'll be trying this out, even though it's a native mediterranean plant and I live in Greece, for some reason I can never keep it alive... I'll place it next to my bbq, though, so it better live, for us to keep eating it!! 😂
    Have a great day!! 😊

      Awesome! Yeah it’s one of my favs to cool with. Oregano is also a good companion plant with Rosemary. Yes in pots they are little finicky. Good luck..hope this one works!

    I love my trailing rosemary. It attracts the bees when it flowers and it smells so good. I'm Sicilian so i have a couple types of Rosemary.

      @@BudgetPlants yes My family came from Caltanesseta, Sicily.
      I want to order your grass but I will need to find someone to do the work for me, first. I see that you're real close by. Do you know anyone you can recommend who can landscape in Covina? I get so frustrated with the people who call themselves gardeners, yet they know nothing about squat! I'd like to bury a drip irtigation under it if its not too much to hope someone would know how to do. I'll email you.

    Nice video, will this crowd out wild grasses and weeds over time?... My slope has that California grass that looks dead all summer, then turns green in rainy season. Thx.

      Hi! Well it probably won’t completely solve that problem...I’d say the grass will grow through the Rosemary. However, the Rosemary will provide greenery year round which will be nice visually. Thanks for watchin!

      Hey Brendan, our backdrop is constructed from a metal frame faced with 1/2x6” T&G boards with a semi-transparent stain.

    I have a 50' long, 4' high planter and I want to soften up the corner facing the alley and the edge along the sidewalk. I don't need a solid drape along the entire length of the planter, so what size and what quantity would you recommend?

    • @BudgetPlants
      @BudgetPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say maybe space them every 4 feet or so, so about 12 plants. If it’s affordable, 5 gallons sizes will yield a more instant gratification :)

    I think I have trailing rosemary. I think it has really taken a beating from freezes. There a big dead parts. Will it grow back if I cut it back down?

    • @BudgetPlants
      @BudgetPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes you can revive these by hard pruning off dead branches. When you cut the branches, take note if there is any soft green tissue inside or if it’s all brown throughout. That will give you an indication of how it will fare.

    Help! I planted about 8 flats on a huge hill and the trailing rosemary is taking over in less than a year. It beautiful but I want to keep it really low like a ground covering. Is that possible? Can I edge the outsides to stop it from growing into nearby plants? Can I edge the top to keep it low? Please let me know.Thanks!

    • @BudgetPlants
      @BudgetPlants  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! So as I’m sure you’re seeing, Trailing Rosemary has a wide spread. Each plant can reach about 7-8’ wide depending on the variety. You can definitely edge it to keep it contained as well as sheer the top to keep it low. It actually creates a very nice manicured look. The Huntington Carpet variety does stay a bit lower if you want to switch it out. Good luck!

    is rosmary good for bugs? or flys

    • @BudgetPlants
      @BudgetPlants  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can help to reduce pests like mosquitoes, but you need quite a lot of it to actually be effective
