Absolutely brilliantly written and read. As per a previous comment, Tom Sharpe transformed me into a "bookie". The first was "The Wilt Alternative" and then all the others in short order. Hope the language doesn't offend too many of the younger generation, but it (like many others) portrays the regime as it was. Its history and we can't change that.

Lived in America for three years, never laughed because I have a dry sardonic wit, which dosen't fair well over there??? Anhyhow, mate comes over from UK and leaves me this. I laughed out loud and had the greatest experience with a book for the first time in my life. Great writer, but, even greater if you have knowledge and a senae of humour.

The newest one on the channel today is the first of his books I have ever read and I have never laughed so hard I almost pissed myself! He was a bit before my time possibly that’s how I missed him! I just I wanted to share my joy with somebody who would appreciate it! It’s called “will“ and it is absolutely hilarious! It’s a bit naughty! Blessings from London! Tell me what you think when you’ve had it it’s only 2 1/2 hours! I normally just listen to half an hour here half an hour there but it was so good I listened to all of it! I would love to know what somebody else thinks and I just chose your message I don’t know why! Blessings🦋

This is the first of Sharpes novels I listened to that was abridged. Can’t say I liked it much. The plot didn’t flow and there was too much missing for it to make sense. I’ll stick to the full versions.

Heart breaking I find it - look at the rubbish on audible vs the side splitting ridiculing of the disgusting apartheid regime. Sharpe was thrown out for so how the books can be anything other than a farcical Mickey take baffles me.
Unabridged copies of the South African twin novels - I'd pay 5 credits for the pair, with Callow reading. Or 4 for the pair with Stephen Fry - hope he has South African voice amongst his myriad other talents.
Never found the next author beyond Sharpe. Love his precursor international airport 20th century in Wodehouse but humour that when read can make you laugh til your tummy aches is a rare thing.
Tips anyone - with link to whole or sample would be ace.
I prefer non fiction if anyone gas any tips?

Yes it’s very much abridged. And poorly too unfortunately. If you haven’t read the book it’s fine, but if you have you will find that huge important plot points have been skipped. For example the trick Verkramp uses to get the constables into the drill hall to wire them up. Verkramps dinner with the doctor where she gets drunk and he bites her panties. So many hilarious bits just tossed aside. A real shame as it’s read beautifully.
