Singer Josh Clayton-Felt died on January 19, 2000 at 32 of testicular cancer. Guitarist Michael Ward went on to play with John Hiatt and eventually became a member of The Wallflowers. After The Wallflowers split, Ward spent many years as a member of Ben Harper's band, The Innocent Criminals. He is also a sought-after session guitarist in LA, and the author of the children's books 'Mike and the Bike' and 'Mike and the Bike Meet Lucille The Wheel.' Chad Fischer went on to form the band Lazlo Bane, most known for original opening credits of the TV show Scrubs. He also performed music in the Garden State movie soundtrack. Christopher MacDonald, who played bass with the band on tour, but did not play on any School of Fish recordings, records synthesizer space music under the name Telomere.

Can you please explain, what makes this song so elegantly brilliant ? In simple layman terms ?

    • @DunamisSword
      @DunamisSword 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@SpringNotes rarely do we hear such a simple chord progression played with such conviction, first of all. They're so committed to it! And for the melody and the lyrics it works so well!
The lyrics remind me of how I felt in my 20's pretty regularly--a little lost and quite often in something of a fugue state of mind. So I love the visual created in this lyric:
      lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
      Floating on my back
      And staring at the gray
      It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
      Bringing me back to life
      From three strange days
-Just a great way to express that sort of dreamy feeling that artistic, deep-thinkers get swimming through an ocean of thought.
So lyrically, he brilliantly nails it over music that's just the perfect fit for what is conveyed, and that makes it elegant to me. Maybe I'm stupid. 🤷‍♂️

A very smart slice of rock. It's got it all- a sharp driving riff throughout, psychedelic effects and lyrics, a clever bridge, a key change and some fiery guitar work at the end.

Joshua was a kind young man. He was a gentleman and fine musician. It broke my heart watching his illness slow him down, yet he had a kind word for you and showed respect to everyone. When he stopped coming around to my guitar shop even my wife noticed his absence .He was a fixture in the store and would constantly run into someone he knew. I don't think I could forget his big smile. Now that i have adult children, i think about his parents and feel for them. What a wonderful child. God bless you Joshua

I'll never forget when I first heard this song. I was on my way to work listening to KROQ in L.A. sitting in traffic on the 405 freeway in the heart of San Fernando valley. I fell in love with it instantly! Heard the singer died soon thereafter of cancer I think. What a bummer. This song is one of the best I've ever heard! Agree - will never get tired of it and agree about guitar riff.

I’m 23, I heard this song in a grocery store. I’ve had the album on repeat on Spotify for a week. I love 90’s albums, there is something different about how they sound and recorded. They sound so good compared to album today. I think a lot of things are over produced, albums before 2000 just seem simple. The music is more raw, creative and melodic. I’m constantly digging for 90’s bands and music. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    For three strange days
    I had no obligations
    My mind was a blur
I did not know what to do
    I think I lost myself
    When I lost my motivation
Now I'm walking 'round the city
    Just waiting to come to
    For three strange...
    For three strange days
I couldn't put a smile on my face
So they dressed me up in all of their clothes
    And took me somewhere else
    Johnny Clueless was there
    With his simulated wood grain
So I pulled up a chair
    And started drinking by myself
    For three strange...
I've got to make it through
    No matter what it takes
Oh I've got to make it through
    These strange days
I lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
    Floating on my back
    And staring at the gray
    It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
    Bringing me back to life
    From three strange days
    Three strange...
    Three strange days
    Three strange days

@James Tippens Awww. That is totally awesome that your Father was in this video! I would be really proud of that as well. I really love "School Of Fish". I went to see them once and hit it off really well with Josh Clayton-Felt. I swear to God it seemed like we were falling in love, (this was after the show). We were talking for hours. But then my best friend Bob, who I grew up with, who was also gay, got cranky and irritable. Which normally happens when he drinks. We had just turned 21. Bob started bitching and saying, "I want to go home! Let's go! I don't want to be here anymore!" . Unfortunately, I was driving. Incidentally, I never ever drank. To this day I've never had one drink. I was so sad that I had to leave Josh. And as I was leaving, I kept looking back at him and he just kept watching me walk away. Ahh, what might have been! I saw him once more when he left the band and went solo several years later and opened up for Del Amitri, who I also love. I saw Josh walk by and he did a double take when he saw me. I don't know what came over me, but I just sort of walked away really fast, not looking back. It broke my heart. But I'm sure things were different by that point. I'm sure he didn't have an interest in me anymore and probably had a girlfriend. Anyway, I lost my beloved Father only three months before you lost yours. I'm very sorry that your Dad passed away. It seems like you were lucky to be his son. My Father had heart disease for a good part of his life. And 16 days before he died they found out he was in stage 4 of heart failure. So, it sounds like we lost our Fathers to similar conditions. I miss my Superman everyday and I still cry all the time because he's not here with me anymore. Even though it's been three years. I'm going to look up your Father's name and see what other acting roles he had. And I'm also going to watch this video again so I can get a good look at him! Thank you for telling us about your Dad! That's really super cool! I firmly believe we will be reunited with them again someday. 😀👼💞👍🌼✌🍀

Hi James. I work with Josh’s (the singer) family to help promote his music. Josh died 19 years ago. If there is anything your dad shared with you about the making if the video, I’d love to share it with his family. Thx for sharing your story.

I’m 62 years old and I love these guys. I’ an old rock lover. I came up with Aerosmith and others of that generation. School of Fish was not my generation but I still like their music. Especially Three Strange Days. Good guitar playing. Singing is good. To bad the singer died to early.

muy buena canción, avanzada y evolucionada a su tiempo, pena de grupo podía habernos dado grandes temas. un placer volverla a disfrutar.

Thank you 90.7 The Summit for playing this today ❤ the memories and nostalgia this song unlocked. I'd forgotten about this in my old age. Oh how I miss being a teen in the 90's. No social media and Good music.

"And Johnny Clueless was there with his simulated wood grain". I remember when this song hit college radio and I've been hooked since. Great band!
