Thanks to this Video I gave the Onyx 8s a try.
Yep, I broke down and bought a pair of the 8's today, I wasn't even sure I would keep them because my pair of 7's sound pretty darn good for what they are. Mind you I only listen to these In stereo. So side by side testing it was almost a Day and Night difference. I mean WOW!!!
MUCH better than my pair of Onyx 7's.
The Tweeters are the biggest change. But it's not just the sharper, and cleaner highs, but also the sound stage is much bigger, and the instruments are more separated. The vocals are much taller and more up front. About twice as tall as the 7's. And the singer was standing in front of the speakers.
In comparison, the vocals of the 7's sound small, like the singers were 10 feet behind the instruments and only 3 feet tall.
The Sound Processing it's like some kind of voodoo magic thing. Almost scary good. No idea how they do it. Phase alignment EQ stuff I suppose.
For those who like speed metal or booming music or, super loud dynamics you would still need a subwoofer in the mix to achieve perfection which would be a really cool option HK hint hint.
But for me the quality between 50hz and 20k hz these are about as good as my old Martin Logan'$$$. Not kidding. Best money I've spent this year.

Just picked up the Onyx Studio 8 as a gift for someone and they sound amazing!! Where I work we have the 7 as a store demo and it sounds amazing. From what I hear in the video the 8 sounds a bit more clear/loud.

In my honest opinion (listening to this on my Audeze LCD-X) I have a few inputs:
First, the placement of the speakers. The Onyx 7 is placed on the far end of the table, meaning there's less surface for the audio to impact/bounce on, this might cause some audible difference between the two. For a true back-to-back comparison, everything needs to be perfectly centered and equal with the exact same setting. Otherwise, there will inevitably be some kind of unwanted deviation in the results, even if it's minimal
Also, yes I could hear some individuality here. This might be (again) due to the placement of the speakers. However; I feel the Onyx 8 has slightly more volume and a bit more range in the sub-bass segment. Both seem to retain the same clarity.
Naturally, listening to audio from one (or in this case two sources) being recorded though another and then reproduced into whatever you use for your listening experience will not depict the correct signature of either speaker.
Having that said, the slight difference here is probably not that big of a deal for most people, and if it isn't, people would probably want to know how these two match up in terms of connectivity, battery life, range, build quality and price.
As of right now the Onyx 8 is priced at roughly 340 EUR, while the Onyx 7 is going for somewhere around 110 EUR in Norway. I'm sure the Onyx 8 sports a slightly better battery life, better connectivity (support for newer versions of BT) and that kind of thing. If that's important to you, then you might want to check the specs out for yourself and compare the two before buying.
As for me, looking to buy a new portable speaker, the Onyx 7 is definitely on my radar. I'm not sure if the Onyx 8 could justify its price tag compared to the Onyx 7 considering there are (obviously) very minor differences overall.
Hope this might help people decide which one might be better suited for them in terms of what they look for in either speaker.

What about the HK Connect app support? It says in the description that only works with Onix 4, it was updated 2 months ago but it didn’t mentioned if they updated the app for Onix 5, 6, 7 and 8, also, what’s going on with the Harman Kardon Astra and Allure? Are there any hardware updates or are they still available for sale?

I can hear a definite difference between sound quality the 8 sounds crisper and clearer tbh I prefer the 6 to the 7 bass wise and style but the 8 just judging by this video which is hard the 8 sounds clear but hard to tell through a video also I’m a dj and just saying what I’m hearing 👍

I'm not an expert on this matter but as a dedicated listener, I guess both devices have excellent quality sound, clear and without distortion. But I found that Onyx 8 has more spatial sound with greater emphasis on the mids and highs and the sensation is quite pleasant. When hearing this video with headphones, the feeling is that the sound from the Onyx 8 comes from somewhere else than the headphones. It was the only difference I noticed, I don't know if that's worth the price difference between them. But on the bottom line, you'll be fine buying either devices...you'll just save a little bit on the Onyx 7. Thx

Its really tough to hear the difference unless ur an audiophile. But to me Onyx 7 ia not a bad choice. Its got the deep smooth bass and exeptional clean highs too. I mean its really not worth to spend $100 more for a small difference other than auto calibration. Go with Onyx 7👍

That's why I would be particularly interested in the efficiency of the "self-tuning" of the Onyx Studio 8 in a comparison test. I am very satisfied with the JBL Extreme 3. For the bedroom, I replaced the Onyx Studio 7 with the LG XBOOM360 XO3Q.

Well i own studio 7 listening to studio 8 the difference is the equalizer settings 1khz is 1 db higher i.e. on studio7 set equalizer 1khz to + 1 db the sound willbe same .

@@chehansamarasinghe you can start with eqfy equalizer app these harman kardon products are very well balanced you do not need to change much i use it to lower the bass when i am indoors .

listening here i hear a cleaner airy sound with the 8. The separation of the instruments sounds better. Larger sound stage. Bottom line The stereo processing in the 8 sounds over-the-top good for a single unit.
But, I think if you use 2 units in stereo, like I do with my 7s the difference would probably be less of a difference.
I love my 7s but I am curious to compare the pair's in real stereo EQed the same. The tweeters may be better in the 8.
Wider sound stage BS. Sound stage can be wide or narrow ONLY WITH STEREO! This is mono.
@@MariusVerbavicius If you read my review since I did end up buying 2 of the 8s, I personally only use these in stereo, with 2 Onyx speakers. It sound MUCH better than one.
But that said, these speakers units have TWO tweeters, and crazy processing power ( Phase alignment...) so it can and does effect the sound stage even in with 1 Onyx speaker. ( technically a it may be more of a hybrid stereo/mono speaker)
One bad thing I found is connectivity for stereo is really hit and miss bad. I may have to try repeatedly up to 10 times to sync them up before they do. The 7 were better but they had stereo sync issues also.

Unfortunately it cannot be.
Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 8 Service port is a sound card port. Yesterday i put to my computer and appear as sound card. Currently i am using as a soundcard. The fact there is no any information about the service port what is pupose. This way i use without any delay sound. Plus i can adjust the bass level.
I hear no differences it just the number and the price that's all...

From my listening they are way too similar tho the studio 8 has more clarity alongside it's same bass n treble sounds which is very similar to studio 7, this audio test was indeed a tough one 😂
❤both sound same to me only difference is 5mm smaller tweeters in the 8. I Just bought the 7 online sale99$ awesome speaker great price but definitely not for apartment your neighbors will be shaken from the bass even on low volumes lol.

Yes, the Studio 8 is definitely better than the Studio 7 but in my country the price of Studio 7 is 129€ vs 299€ for Studio 8. Is it no brainer to buy the Studio 7 now? or better getting the Studio 8?

@@code8217 the studio 8 has slightly better bass but I have chosen studio 7 because of the price. One thing I want to point out is that the studio 7 has significant bluetooth lag and it’s noticeable when playing video.

Try a bass sweep test from 100 hz to 30hz. They can faithfully reach 39 hz , not 50hz like the manual says.
Yeah. But you've got to remember in what db' the 50Hz works on Onyx's. 50Hz it's rated on -6db, if I recorded well.. So, the 39Hz is played like in -10db or even left! That's a really low volume at overall normal listening volume, but still very impressive and almost unbeatable thing over the most Bluetooth speakers. I can even listen 34Hz in some songs.

I had the onyx 4 which I adored. Seriously the sound was just great. I recently upgraded to onyx 7 and I’m just so .. disappointed? It doesn’t sound clear to me at all

i just bought myself an Onyx Studio 7 too, it sounds amazing and the bass is absolute thunder. Save lots of money, i dont mind it is not waterproof since i will just be using it at my sleeping room.

In my headphones, onyx 7 sounds perfect stereo, but onyx 8 doesnt. Onyx 8 is way lowder on left channel and it makes it sound strange.

In real life Onyx studio 7 sounds incredible.The bass is more clear and you can feel it in your body and all surroundings.I havent heared the Onyx 8 but I am sure it will sound good.
Debes usar otro dispositivo para grabar el audio de los parlantes porque el que utilizas no capta las frecuencias bajas. Si es posible consíguete un Huawei P30 Lite. Ese sí capta frecuencias bajas.

There is just a slightest difference in favor of the studio 8 it might be slightly louder with slightly louder vocals and details but you could barely tell the difference that's what these companies do nowadays they make it slightly better than the last version whatever that you get away with slightly better sound quality way more money is not worth it especially when you get the studios 7 for $99 and the studio 8 is $479

Dude it was everywhere. They tried to sell everything out. I got it for 99 and then I opened a new line with Tmobile and was offered the Onyx 8 for 220 buck, which is 280 less than the orginal price.

Nice comparison. I think the Onyx 8 is slightly better. It has more distinct and cleaner highs. When it comes to bass sound.. well both bass does not have that punch that bass lover look for. Its average. I go for the 8
