  • A pod of approx 8-10 bottlenose dolphins swimming close inshore just off West Runton on the North Norfolk Coast of England, UK.
They approached the rib originally off Blakeney and then followed them for an hour to Cley before then rejoining the boat for another 45 minutes off West Runton. It's very rare to see bottlenose dolphins this far down the East coast in the North Sea. They may have been passing through or they may be following the huge numbers of mackerel we have seen off the coast here this year.
(Sad that I have to point this out but some people really don't understand animal behaviour but the boat was NOT chasing the dolphins about, it was quite the opposite - the dolphins were attracted to the boat and followed it very closely for over an hour and half).

Thank you Chris and congratulations on realising your dream of getting dolphins from your drone. And in Sheringham no less! Been a fan of your work for years and this is an 11 on a scale of 10

How is repeatedly driving your boat at a pod of dolphins and repeatedly deliberately positioning your boat over submerged dolphins appropriate?

I’d say the dolphins are engaging with the boat

The dolphins followed and swam around the boat for over an hour and a half, even when it was static and were playing alongside it when it was making way. I would suggest avoid commenting if you don't know the situation or understand basic animal behaviour.

I've had the privilege of swimming with wild dolphins from the shore and alone off the coast of North Africa and I can say unequivocally and with first-hand experience that they engage with humans and allow US to interact with them because they possess non of the petty, judgemental and ego-driven desires and needs that we do. So much we can learn from them. Well done Chris, amazing footage and props to EIFCA for studying and trying to protect these magnificent creatures.
