    In Finland you can bet in almost every grocery store, R-kioski or gas station. Gambling is operated by veikkaus which is owned by the state and it has a monopoly on gambling in Finland. It also runs those Casinos.

    • @Azurall47
      @Azurall47 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, All Betting related activities are handled by Veikkaus Oy, witch is the Government owned monopoly on all forms of betting, lottery, and slot machines.

      I suspect that at least a lot if not most of the sports betting happens online nowadays. You can do it in shops and wherever as well, but how many actually fill out those paper betting slips anymore?

    2:18 That R-kioski was unfortunately closed three years ago.
    12:11 The 'lily' on the bus tells that it was in Turku.
    13:20 Pippurimylly = pepper mill
    13:26 If pronounced like that it becomes 'puupuu' which means 'tree tree' :)

    The Scandic Hotel Grand Central does not have any signs on the building because the railway station building is so heavily historically protected that they cannot install any. Even as a Finn I had trouble finding it when visiting the first time and I asked them why are the entrance is so damn hard to find. They are not even allowed to put a plaque on the door. 😅

    • @herrakaarme
      @herrakaarme ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is actually quite interesting. By using the streetview and moving around in the area, you can see the photos from 2021 show the hotel with a sign on the roof. Not a flashy sign, but there's there. However, photos from 2019 and 2020 are missing the sign. I've never visited that hotel, so I wouldn't have paid any attention to it personally.

    • @Aquelll
      @Aquelll ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@herrakaarme I visited it at June 2022 and then there were no signs anywhere at all. That is also when they told me about not being allowed to put any up on the building. The hotel is only few years old so probably the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museovirasto) has tightened the noose or something. 🤔

    You mentioned my St1 map. Some time ago I noticed that there are maps for ABC, Neste and SEO stations of Finland, but St1 and Shell didn't exist, so I created them. "Ravintola Pippurimylly" is "Restaurant Peppermill". There are lots of "pupus" everywhere in Finland :)
    This wasn't my day, I shouldn't play challenges in hangover after a cruise to Estonia :D :D

    Those voting ads (or horror galleries as we usually call them) where all the parties have all their candidates shown are facilitated by the city or municipality and all parties have their spot there. Candidates also have their own ads on roadside, side of buses, newspapers, TV and where you can generally advertise. But nobody have any ads on their personal lawn. People would think you had lost your mind if you did that. Also campaign contributions and campaign budgets are heavily regulated and limited to keep the elections fair for all candidates.

    Those suburban rounds were a bit tricky not gonna lie. Tho on the Turku round there was minibus or some sort of van that had the text Turku on it's side, right outside of that small stretch of dirt road. I only noticed it on my second pass when I was rechecking the road names. Could've made it much faster, if I had noticed it before. Managed to get perfect score still. I prefer to use "autumn" instead of "fall", when talking about the season in English. Less confusion when there's not that second meaning, and autumn is kinda nice word to say. In Finnish the word is "syksy". The ST1 game could be fun.

    There are 3 "real" casinos in Finland if I'm not mistaken, all controlled by Veikkaus monopoly like someone below already said. There used to be blackjack tables and an occasional roulette table in many night clubs before covid, but seems to me those are all pulled away now. Hardly a casino experience, but I enjoyed them.

    Every time somebody mentions the word "pupu" it just reminds me of this news video "Anni's favourite animal is the bunny" where the reporter is interviewing the little girl at the animal yard. "A: My favourite animal is the bunny - R: Have you petted the bunny? - A: No - R: Have you been to see the bunnies? - A: No - R: Are you going to go? - A: No - R: Aha...". She is the most Finnish kid I have ever seen. 😅 th-cam.com/video/clQkI3M_EBE/w-d-xo.html

      @@alloverthemap23 Bears can be found pretty much all over the country (except Åland). However, the populations have a higher density in northern and especially eastern Finland. I don't recall there being any sightings in Helsinki area in recent years but they are seen in urban areas every now and then. I don't know if they still do it but I remember watching tv as a kid and a red warning message would pop up at top of the screen warning that a bear had been spotted in a town somewhere. We've had a wolverine and a wolf in Helsinki in the last few years though

    Yup, I grew up (for about a decade) within 1km from the 2nd round location, and couldn't have said that it was from around there. So that was a pretty tricky round. And btw: it's a double-i (one capital, one lowercase) in the beginning of "Iisalmi". No "I-L".

    The Finnish word for autumn/fall is "syksy". English is not an official language here, so there's no standard on whether British or American or some other variant would be used. My personal preference is to try to minimize ambiguity, so I prefer autumn over fall, vacuum cleaner over hoover, gasoline over gas/petrol etc.
