Dude there is this 1999 or 2000 Emachine computer I found in the basement I'm gonna turn into a Windows 98 gaming machine. I opened it up and found a Voodoo 2 inside! Had no idea it was there.
@@icqme8586 Well, the Voodoo 4 and 5 can technically do 32 bit, but you have to force it in 3DFX's control panel if you are using 3DFX Glide option for old games. For the Voodoo 4 4500, 32 bit graphics are a bit too much for the graphics adapter, despite the fact the Voodoo 4 can do it. The Voodoo 5 5500 can do 32 bit as well and with good speed, but barely.
Nice build :D It captures the early days of casemodding before it matured. I also installed rgb fans and cold cathodes. And I cut a hole in the side door and installed a plexiglass window. I attached the window to the case with an ugly thick rubber edging strip.
I remember assembling a PC for a customer in 1999, AMD K6-350 (maybe other clockspeed)equipped with a Nvidia Riva card. TNT I think. And Star Wars Pod racer on it. I personally burned in that machine :)
I love that purple rounded IDE cable. I almost bought one from ebay a few days ago *lol* If You want to get rid of it, You can send it my way *lol* Also that keyboard... it reminded me a lot of they keyboard I used back then: A Cherry rubber dome keyboard I spraypainted bright yellow. I thought it looked fun and cool *lol* And in an obnoxious way it is ^^;
Great build, to me that's the sweetspot for retro Windows gaming, CPU around 1Ghz, GF2/GF3 och Radeon 7500/8500. My 2001 System has an Athlon Thunderbird 1400 with a Radeon 8500 and a Yamaha DS XG soundcard. Runs every Windows 9x game I throw at it! But I put Diablo 1 on my new monster 486 last weekend :) AM 5x86-133, ARK1000VL Graphics and Vibra-16s, Diablo is still awesome! :)
Personally, it's not a bad case. The Blue isn't that bad of a color, for a case. The hardware is pretty rad. I doubt the machine has an ISA slot, so you can play some DOS games on it. Since the machine has a Soundbaster Live, I guess you could technically have Soundblaster 16 emulation, but I heard that is tricky to get working, and not all games work with Sound Blaster 16 emulation. I would probably put in a Geforce 3 card, although the Geforce 2 pro is okay. But I think the processor may be fast enough for some DirectX 8 gaming to get a Geforce 3, which is properly built for DirectX 8 games. All in all, I think it's a good build, but I would personally like to tweak the hardware. The fancy lighting on PCs, is not much of my thing, so I would get rid of those. Maybe replace the 1 GHz CPU with a 1.2 GHz CPU. Years ago, I had a PC that had a socket 370 motherboard with one ISA slot. I can't remember what happened to it, and I regret it. Socket 370 motherboards with any ISA slots are pretty rare.
Wouldn't mind you changing that case & perhaps doing some bit more modern upgrades, change the hard drive too an ssd with a sata too ide adapter for a bit more speed & less hassle of trusting mechanical harddrives & less noise as well. Getting rid of the stickers and repainting the case too get rid of the scratches in a bit nicer color that perhaps fits the era better without being a rather boring color still like black or beige. Perhaps adding in some sound dampening material here & there + previously mentioned ssd & i think it would redeem itself a bit, feel free too get rid of the cold cathodes though unless you plan on switching out the fans with ones that have white fan blades. If you switch out the case for one that lets you put fans on the side panel, having white cold cathode inside with white fans on the side panel looks awesome if you place it in the right spot as for example on fractal design 120mm fans it picks up light pretty well from a cold cathode kit. Feel free too make a as quiet pc build as possible that is still high performance using a mix of retro and modern parts like a cooler master silencio 550 case with the 180 mm fan in the front & sound dampening.

Believe it's also limited to 16-bit with a 3dfx card, I'd use only the Geforce2 and sell off that over rated 3dfx glide junk :P

You don't need windows 98 to play Baldurs Gate. It runs fine on windows XP
