- About 300 million people across the world will celebrate Persian New Year - or Nowruz - on Thursday.
The 3,000-year-old festival begins on the first day of the year in the Iranian calendar, and is also a celebration of Spring.
People in countries including Iran, Tajikistan, Turkey and Iraq will be welcoming the start of the year 1398, explains the BBC's Samar Salekipour.

@@aneeshbabu1862 You're not wrong. It is a main festival for Zoroastrians as well who are the oldest monotheistic religion in ancient Iran. It's just mostly common for Persian/Iranians to celebrate it the most, as it's originated from there.

Also celebrated in Afganistan, central asia and Pakistan. Its a regional and cultural thing
funny how they forget to add Afghanistan (with a half of the country being of Persian heritage) but put Turkey on the list knowing that they want to erase this tradition from the Kurdish heritage (lately they banned the celebration of Nawroz in Afrin controlled area). Also, the whole Central Asia celebrates Nawroz and some Caucasian countries too.

We have so many calendars,our history goes more than 7000 back,and nowruz has been celebrated for more than 3000 years, the 1398 number is accorded to one of the Islam's calendars unfortunately, hope that we would have our own culture some day and be able to show our true country to the world,
