Bits Box! I bought a load of my components from Bob years ago on eBay when it was still Bob's Bits Box when I first got into electronics! I remember him being a really nice guy explaining a few things for me!
Oh wow thats very cool. I have no idea who runs the website, I just love their stuff. I should have reached out and let them know I was building this really! I have a few others to do too.
@@Adventuresingearland I can't remember what exactly happened or why but I remember him being very helpful. Think I was asking about an opamp or transistors or something and I was only going off a parts list/schematic from General Guitar Gadgets but he was answering my dumb questions like a champ. I was only 20 at the time, which is nearly 20 years ago! But any time I get back into PCBing, Bits Box is where I'll go. I found them on eBay when I was 20, nearly half me life ago and I can't remember what the situation was but Bob was really helpful when I didn't know what I was talking about or even asking! I've still got separate boxes of resistors, capacitors, little baggies with transistors etc that came from them.
@@Adventuresingearland Just looked at my old emails and I found why I like this guy so much! A long damn email from 2007, asking him newbie questions and asking to buy parts from him.... Jesus, he was patient with the young and stupid me! What a legend!
@hellosailoreffectsofficial I love your brand and while you are making these one off pedals, it's the art on the pedal that is your calling card. If you cover it up it defeats the purpose. Check out the Orion Effekt Kafka pedal as another cool finish. I have one of those. Good job on the pedal amigo!😉👍✨
It depends on the strip board or the other day using some cheaper ones that were just made of plastic. I cut them with some strong scissors and actually that is the cleanest easiest cuts I've ever got on those. Another great video as well
Thank you mate. I've been waiting to make this one for a while. Wow I haven't seen stripboard that's plastic before, I bet that was super easy to get a good cut on.
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial not "plastic" fully IDK my hydrocarbons that well lol. Not like it melts from the heat but worked well. Might try my sheet metal sheers on the more quality stuff haha
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial my biggest downfall is my desire to make complex solutions to simple problems haha. Love your art on these. I didn't realize until recently you use fabric. Looks so cool
@DeformedDevices Ha ha I'm the same with some things, I love to overcomplicate a task! Thanks mate. I use both nitrocellulose and fabric finishes. That's the beauty of not having a standard line of pedals. I can mix and match as I please.
I was taught to fit all the lowest profile components first. So that the board lays flat when soldering, which holds the components against the board. All diodes in one go, then resistors, IC socket etc.
@franktriggs Absolutely mate that is the best way to do it for sure. I tend to either go off the beaten path or get excited and solder a large component right in my way ha ha. What's the largest circuit you've built in this style? I am yet to go much larger than a standard overdive but I really want to try something much bigger.
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial I cloned my old Jen DoubleSound Wah/Fuzz circuit many years ago, the largest build I've done. I copied the traces layout and traced it on copper board, etched it myself. I've only done small circuits using perfboard, Vox treble booster, Dallas Rangemaster.
I could have done it for half that price.... 😂 Only joking Joe. You did a killer build. It's a cool circuit. I built a double pedal of this before one side standard and other side modified with switching on clipping section. and value changes, swapping components etc. It makes a versatile little dual pedal in a 1590bb enclosure. Plus, if you wire the 2nd side of the circuit a certain way with an extra cap, you can have it engaged as a always on buffer.
@daithidebarradb Wow that sounds like a super versatile drive pedal for sure! Ha ha I think you need to take up that challenge now and build one for half price 😆
@@hellosailoreffectsofficial Oh no what did I get myself into 😅 The footswitch and jacks will cost that alone. So, scrap components and diy enclosure for the build. I'll accept the challenge for the fun of it. let me enjoy xmas first 😂
@daithidebarradb Ha ha that's the spirit mate! Why not but a broken pedal and salvage the jacks etc. If anyone can do it then it's you, or possibly John.
@Mr_Gray_Sky That seems to be the consensus mate. Looks like i chose wrong ha ha ha. You know me mate, I'm happy to put any knobs on that thread buyer wants 🍻
Ah a man after my own heart 😎 I also use a blade to cut the tracks mate.... But I'm a little more refined I use a No 3 Swann Morton scalpel with a 10A blade 😎. And bits box is awesome.
I think that sums us up mate, we are of the same ilk but you are much more refined ha ha. Yeah I love their kits! I should really have let them know I was filming this video has ha.
Sweet! What I think may be very interesting to your fans would be the Cornish G2 overdrive as used by Dave Gilmour which I presume is another take on the big muff. It would be also interesting to know which model of the muff it's closest to in sound. Just think a Cornish G2 for less than £50.😮
Cheers mate, I had a ton of requests for this one so thought I might as well have a go at it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the tones. I haven't had much experience with this circuit.
Thank you mate I really appreciate that. To be honest, i haven't purchased anything but kits from them over the years. Have you built many of their kits?
@ no to the kits, I tend to build them from scratch, being colour blind doesn’t help ;) and not placing a component where it should go, doesn’t help. But it’s such a buzz when you hit a success. Happy Christmas and be good.
The thing with these low voltage builds is that no matter what, no one is going to die and nothing will go band ha. It's not like onboard a ship where there can be real word consequences with something like 750v dc
My phone has a "mirror image" flipper thing in the photo editing app- Id bet that most phones have the same feature, I just take a screenshot of the stripboard layout, then mirror-flip the image for cutting the traces in the back- I too need to have things as idiot-proof as possible or I veer into the weeds!
What an absolutely amazing idea! I feel the sudden urge to go do this immediately! Cheers mate thats fantastic. I'm definitely going to use technology in the next DIY build video. I think it will either be a Tremolo or a Jan Ray 🤔
Personally, I had to do a series of tests and double-checks to make Absolutely certain that the orientation of the photo was the way I had intended it to be- if youre the same way let me save you trouble, if it looks completely different, you got it!
