He had fun doing it and geeking out with Tarantino about old martial arts movies, but he knew it would get cut to begin with. The scene was cool, but I can see why it was cut. Instead of flat out showing how Bill’s legendary status came about in only three minutes, Tarantino kept it a mystery for the whole movie, leaving you to draw your own conclusions. In the end, he and Beatrix were equals, save for Beatrix being Pai Mei’s only student that he taught the lethal exploding heart technique to.

    I dont see people here commenting a key point: the first one to not following the "rules" was the enemy, when it was supposed to fight with a single arm. After being stuck, he suddenly used the other arm to puch Bill. After some fight, Bill uses the uncovered blade to cut the enemy's throat. Bill has no honor whatsoever, but he was not the first to break the rules. That's good storytelling.

    • @J29-u8u
      @J29-u8u 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That he was not the first to break the rules is indicative of some kind of code of honor. That he called off the assassination of Beatrix while she was unconscious is another. For that matter, he could have slaughtered B. while she was paralyzed by the truth serum, but he waited instead. Bill orchestrated the slaughter of the wedding party in retaliation for B. dishonoring him by running off with their baby. He was definitely a rule-breaker & villain, but he wasn't without honor

    This scene is one of the greatest pieces of martial arts storytelling I have ever seen, AND Tarentino was right to omit it from the movie.
    In 3 minutes you see Bill's affection for B, his extreme affection for himself, his amazing skill level, that he has powerful enemies, and the fact that Bill has no honor whatsoever and he cheats in all things. Amazing film work. The girls stepping out in the middle of the scene then screaming and running away was the perfect addition.
    I also get that it would have completely spoiled the ending. Bill was meant to be a mystery until the very end. It was also meant for Bill's demise to be anti-climactic and the result of his own hubris and disrespect for his teachers over the years. It was completely outside his worldview that Pai Mei would offer anybody but him his full secrets.
    I feel bad for MJW that this was not included, especially since the scene was so good and he was so good in it, but I get taking it out of the movie.

    • @brettzforeman
      @brettzforeman ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Beautifully put, but I'm not sure I agree totally. With this scene included, it would have foreshadowed that Beatrix knows he fights dishonorably, and that in facing him she would have to kill him by a means he would never suspect.
      In this scene, his opponent doesn't expect to get his throat cut with a sheathed sword, but in Beatrix' own duel with Bill, he does not fear being killed by unarmed strikes at point blank range.
      You make a good point with respect to keeping Bill mysterious, but his face is still shown too many times for anything to be a mystery except for his fighting skills. Given how disappointed people were at not really getting to see Bill fight very much, I think this scene would have been a net gain.

    • @ered203

      @jameslatta6813 Neither. You just obviously have a limited view of cinema and what the filmmaker was trying to accomplish. It's freaking Tarentino. What? You're too cool for Terentino? Wow. You must be a steady joy to be around.

      Great take! I think the tone of this fight scene didn't match the rest of the fight scenes in the movie. In every other fight scene through out the movie there were twists, turns and suspense. Also, much more violence. I think if he kept it in it would have seemed out of place.
      I personally think the scene was a great idea for literally all the reasons you stated above. If Bill had struggled a little bit more, and then Beatrice tried to save him only to be told to stand down, then to come from behind with some legendary technique, then it would have been perfect.

      Unfortunately, champ, I don't think there will be a Vol. 3. Tarantino stated that it was his goal to create exactly 10 films as a director, as the number ten is a "good number to end one's directing/filmmaking career". I'm paraphrasing what Tarantino said exactly, but you get the gist. _Once Upon a Time In Hollywood_ is Tarantino's final film.
      Of course, celebrities retire and come back all the time, take for instance Jay-Z and the Black Album--which was supposed to be his final work--but here we are, years later, with Jigga still making records.
      That said, I suppose KBV3 isn't _impossible,_ but I would posit that it's highly _improbable._

    • @richieclean
      @richieclean ปีที่แล้ว

      Never gonna happen.
      QT can't help running his mouth when it comes to the thousands of ideas in his head. Not long after KB was released he speculated that a follow up *might* focus on Nikki taking revenge on Beatrix for the death of her mother, and I think people latched on to that and so he has to pay lip service to the idea when pressed about it.
      But I can't see it being more than just a germ of an idea. At best it would be a footnote to the Kill Bill story, and it would make little sense to call it Kill Bill Vol.3 since, y'know, Bill has already been Killed.
      And Tarantino is smart enough to know it's always best to leave the audience wanting more. His "10 films and done" commitment is testament to that.

    I remember trying to find this on youtube in a decent quality and couldn't.
    Saw this on dvd extra long time ago.
    I have a theory that Bill ended the fight quickly with a throat cut because his opponent wasn't very honorable before.
    He removed the sword and his right hand, so Bill did the same to have a "fighting match with left hands", however after quickly realizing Bill is stronger he attacked Bill with his right hand and thus successfully landed a blow only because of that.
    Of course BIll would humiliate him one way or another regardless, with lethal consequences, but it may have been a longer and more respectful fight.

    • @brettzforeman
      @brettzforeman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is an interesting point of view that I had not considered.
      I saw it the opposite way: Bill sheathed his own sword in order to invite his opponent to do the same. With their blades covered, MJW's character let Bill get much closer than he would have if his opponent had an exposed blade. During the exchange of blows, his opponent opened himself up wide so he could make a powerful strike with his sheath, to which Bill responded with a BLADED strike - a short thrust past his throat, which he used to shrug his blade's sheath far enough off to open his throat.
      Bill defeated his first AND last opponents by being deceitful. He drew his sword against the first, only to subtly throw a knife into his head as he advanced. For the next three, he used a rapid draw and two slashes to dispatch three opponents instantly. MJW's character was too observant and skilled for these tricks, so Bill briefly entertained a fair contest. First, MJW's character engaged him unarmed, but when it was obvious he couldn't win this way he drew his sword. To that, Bill invited him to use covered swords in order to be at less risk while he distracted him so he wouldn't expect what was coming.

    This scene should not only shouldn't have been cut, it's actually vital. In both Parts 1 & 2, Bill has an air of menace throughout, but when we see him actually fight in Part 2, he doesn't acquit himself well. He's seated, has half a bottle of booze in him, and the action is both too short and too quickly cut to make him seem threatening. With this scene, we see Bill as a skilled swordsman, AND we see his level of cunning. Then we can anticipate the fight with Beatrice as being epic.

      Turn the volume up. He doesn't say "daimyo," and the 'y' isn't silent in Japanese pronunciation. it's a translation issue from the poster mishearing it and labeling it incorrect. Daimyo were prefectural leaders/feudal lords. "Master" is far too generic/loose a term to translate it to.

    This was shot in less than 24 hours on the Shaw Bros. Studio backlot in Beijing. MJW happened to be in town for a few days and heard about the Kill Bill Vol. 2 shoot. Tarantino originally had plans for him to be in part 1 as one of Snakecharmer's Deadly Vipers, but scheduling conflicts arose and Mike couldn't be in the movie. As a favor to each other, Mike and Quinten shot this extra footage *WHICH IS NOT A DELETED SCENE,* it's the only ever B-roll footage Quinten has ever filmed in his career, we got this absolutely legendary fight included on the DVD for Vol. 2.

    The one reason I could see this scene being put back into the film is that it does a great job of showing you just how much of a threat that Bill is and honestly makes you question if Beatrix is even capable of beating him. In the original cut of the film, you honestly start to wonder if Bill is even much of a badass to begin with, or if he's simply just another assassin. This makes it clear that he really was the strongest snake in the group until Bea.

  • @Severinate

    I love this movie a lot. I know people has a tendency to see part 1 & 2 as individual movies but they are not. You just can't make over 4 hours movie because people would leave in the middle. As for the scene- Why to cut it? The scene is too perfect. David's and Michael's acting, the vibe and the music, the perfect dynamics between Bill and Beatrix prior to what happened and Bill's skill in martial arts. Now of course Michael Jai White is talented as well, but I am talking about Bill specifically because it meant to show us that Bill is a force to be reckon with.

  • @SisterUnity

    I really wonderful seeing this & it's a great homage, but I believe they cut it because, while it was probably written to show Bill's mastery and lethal ability, it makes him even more foreboding to never show him at the level of his assassins doing the dirty work. He's much more dangerous and haunting because you never see him fighting like they do until at the very end with kiddo because she is at or has surpassed his level and then necessary for them to be at the same level.
