    Those 20mm pieces would be good size for the infrared(?) cameras that can see the type of plastic and target for robot pickers to pluck out the assigned pieces by type for separation and later processing.

    In the event of a jam or incipient jam, is there feedback through the sieve levers? My concern is the feedback might be harmful to the operator.

    • @yannclm5231
      @yannclm5231 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      From the testing we did up to now, there is almost no feedback, an the few that is still there is very limited. This was our fear as well, as it would have made a very unfriendly machine, but anyone can use it, it doesn’t require much strength or anything.

    It looks more dangerous than normal shredders because of higer speed but it seems to work great! Very good that you will improve safety on further version.

      Yes, this one was purely to test this concept of a single shaft shredder with this manual sieves/pushers. The second version is lower with a 800mm tall hopper so the rotor is not accessible anymore.

    I am intrigued! i am looking for a solution that is easy to build by any mechanic anywhere will easy to get parts...unfortunately the high torque model at $1000 to build is too expensive. I see that a version of this 30% smaller could be built by a mechanic and work very well...I am hoping to see costs and plans soon. I build one to see how simple/low cost it can get...
    I also need a "slicer" for plastic bags and films..we are putting them in a heat press to make panels..we do not need fine ground plastic but a full size plastic bag is difficult to deal with. We are building a "slicer" now with belts to pull bags into several cutters inside an enclosure and out drops strips..idea is that it would slice up plastic bags and films as fast as a person could feed them in. Any suggestions on this would be -much appreciated..thinking with 2 small motors and a small box this could be a machinie that could be built for $200.
    thanks

    Honestly I think this one is designed I better for several reasons:
    no to very little fly back
    easier to unjam
    Easier to hold the plastic against the shredding bit
    Wonder if there’s anything that can be attached that would pre slice the bottles in half before shredding 🤔

  • @briangilbert3884

    VERY nice... looks expensive, though, with some hard-to-fabricate bits without access to industrial suppliers (here in the US, they'd rather not mess with small and semi-knowlegeable operations like ours.) I'm thinking of the drum and the teeth, which look like high-carbon and hardened steel.
    When the motor on our shredder burned out, we bought a small commercial unit from China. Generally speaking it works very well, but we have a problem with the static that it generates. Charged bits of microplastic go everywhere. I'll be interested to see how your next version works in terms of the static.

    • @beechworthartscouncilbac28
      @beechworthartscouncilbac28 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      perhaps replacing the motor with a "small commercial unit from china" is where the static is coming from.... did the original motor generate static?!?

    • @briangilbert3884
      @briangilbert3884 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MaxGiganteum I agree, but there are realities that we need to deal with. Yes, it would be better to NOT buy from china, but in this case we really didn't have an alternative. Believe me, if there was a domestic or European version that we could afford, we would have bought it. I don't like it, but I have to admit that the thing works a lot better than our PP version did. And we are back to shredding and remelting fairly large quantities of #5, at least for our 2-3 person volunteer operation.

    • @MaxGiganteum
      @MaxGiganteum 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@briangilbert3884 No alternative? There is ALWAYS an alternative. You mention that there wasn't a domestic or European version that you could afford. That tells me all I need to know and it's always the same. You bought what you did because of the low price and that's it. End of line. The truth is that it's better to spend more time and save up what you need, find a donor, find a sponsor, manufacture your own or find SOME alternative that will work. China is a communist country. Communists are evil by default. Explore every avenue and do what it takes to get your mission accomplished without dealing with that which is evil. For the record, I'm not suggesting for a second that everyone in China is evil or is on board with communism because they are not. However, the communists rule the roost and any goods, services or monetary considerations that go into that nation are consumed by them. Think about that because every time anyone does business with anyone in China... it only gives them stability and makes them stronger. One must think long term and not get caught up in short term considerations. When speaking of long term, I'm referring to decades and further... 50 years, 100 years and longer. Why? Because they do. Seek out and find the alternative. There is always an alternative. Even if it takes some time. Peace & good vibes!

    Why is that shredder considered better than previous one by you? It is not better in any way. Previous one is better concept, just increase the motor speed and size (to the same as this one). I mean this one is not bad, but i think better result can be achieved with previous shreader design if done properly.

    • @mavigogun
      @mavigogun ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From way over here, the first obvious improvement is maintenance and longevity- this design features removable cutters. The Shredder Pro would require a complete breakdown to confront failures. MOREOVER, in the instance of a significant jam, some builds of the first Pro suffered disabling damage to the frame containing the cutter shafts. Just a couple off the top of my head, without benefit of practical use of either version.

    • @drister007
      @drister007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mavigogun 1. Easier maintenace IS one addvantage of this design at the cost of slower speed (if previous design would have the motor with the same power and the correct gear ratio it would be FASTER than this one.
      2. Longetivity: NO! No difference.
      3. IF you would design proprely, you CAN MAKE previous design machine that would suffer no damage in case of significant jam.
      Mechanical engineer with a degree here btw. :)

    • @drister007
      @drister007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mavigogun My point is: adventage/dissadventage ratio is BETTER with previous design.

    • @yannclm5231
      @yannclm5231 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      We redesigned the previous version already, you can find it in the how-tos. But bigger motor implies other modifications (that we did) : like stronger bearing and box, resulting in a quiet expensive and difficult to built machine.
      So we rethought the concept instead of adding another layer. And I can assure you that this one is easier to built, to maintain, cost less and shreds faster.
      By the way it has been designed by several mechanical and electrical engineer with degree and experience. Check the other machine Weima is doing, they are on the very proper side of things !

    • @drister007
      @drister007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yann CLM: you didn't exactly understand what i said. Let me clerify. I didn't mean to increase the motor any further, just use the same power motor as this one has. Your previous design is slower because you didn't use the proper gear ratio. IF you would, than previos design with THE SAME power motor would cut faster. And cutting faster is the most important thing if you want to be productive. Yes this design has a little easier maintenance, but it cuts SLOWER than the prevous design (assuming both designs would be optimised to their maximum potential). Building cost for both designs are very similar, not much difference. I didn't said that previous design is allways better. But i said previus design would be better if both designs would be optimised to their maximum potential. :)
