Texas has a fairly large Czech community, for example, one of my great great grandfathers came here from Przno. So, kolaches and klobasnek have been here for a long time.
Unfortunately, most people here only know a kolache as a sausage filled dough and have no idea that's not it at all. Kolache are delicious! (Poppy seed is my favorite!)
Great video, y’all. And yes our drinks are huge here but what most people outside of the states don’t realize is that most of us fill the cups up to the top with ice so there’s not as much soda in those cups as you think. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a lot of soda.
Hello Graham Family! I love the set up of you guys in this one! I can see everyone clearly and hear everyone. Ms K, wow, it's as if you have been doing this for years!! Great job!! Ms D : )
I am so glad that you have created the family channel. Kat, you are a beautiful woman both inside and out. I can see why you and Jono have such wonderful children. I was blessed to travel a lot and live in several places in the US. I was in Texas for 10 years, and I loved it. It was only when my parents really needed me nearby that I relocated back "home" - I say that as I felt that Texas was where I belonged. That being said, I never regretted my years with my parents, and if I had taken care of them for 50 years, it would not make up for what they did for me. I send blessings for a fantastic 2024 and for making a trip to visit us in the US.
I am not sure how expensive it (beef jerky) is in Slovakia, but rest assured it is expensive in the US too. The meat that is used is the premium cuts (top round, sirloin, brisket flat, etc) and because meat is mostly water, it requires 2.5 pounds raw beef to make ~1 pound jerky. Throw in marinating it, smoking it and drying it, and all the time that encompasses, and it is easy to understand why it costs $25 a pound in the US. Everyone thinks they are getting screwed over with these prices, but sirloin avg $7-$9 a pound near me. Multiply that by 2.5 and you'll see there isn't a lot of room for profiteering, even at $25 a pound.
I live near a Buc-ees here in Kentucky (The first & only one in the state at the moment. They're about to build a 2nd one here soon). I have two friends that work there & I talked to some of the guys that work the BBQ station. They all said that the BBQ is cooked in Kansas & shipped to our location. As a BBQ guy who has 3 smokers myself, I'm not a huge fan of their BBQ but its not bad. I've been to two in Texas as well while visiting family, near Bryan-College Station & Houston, but I still prefer my own, my friends/family or BBQ a from real BBQ restaurant. That being said, I'd take their BBQ over Sonny's any day of the week. At Buc-ees, fuel is usually cheaper than most gas/petrol stations & they have a ton of other stuff that's definitely worth getting also. I'm even considering buying a smoker from there to add to my collection.
Yeah, it isn't that Bucc-ees has the greatest BBQ. It is that Bucc-ees has the best *gas station* BBQ. I find it a little tough and stringy, but at the same price range, I am not finding better really anywhere else. Sure, if I want to spend 2x as much, but for ~$6 while you are getting gas? It is really hard to beat.
4:05 Just imagine if Slovakia was 14 times larger, that's about how large Texas is. Texas is almost twice the size of Germany if that helps to visualize.
Buc-ees is not just in Texas. I live in Kentucky, and we have them here, too. Also, big trucks (18 wheelers) are allowed. They have a separate entrance
They are in other states besides Texas. Closest to me is in South Carolina but they are wanting to build one in my state of North Carolina. We'll see 🤞🙏🦫🤎😻😍
Loving the family videos Jono. You have a very beautiful and sweet family. Your wife really adds a great perspective and it was a good choice to include her. Your son is a natural in front of the camera. He is very relaxed and he easily shares his thoughts. Love y'all. Mila from Seattle, Washington USA.
Kentucky is just south of me and they are set to get their 2nd Buc-ees this year. It is still too far away for me to go however. We did a road trip last year and I stopped and got the brisket sandwich and beaver nuggets. It was so crowded that I didn't stay there long.
Buc-ee's isn't just in Texas...it's in Gatlinburg TN as well as Cookeville TN, Richmond KY, Florida, and I believe in GA and Mississippi as well. They are slowly spreading all throughout the south!
The pecans are sooo good. Everytime I go to a Bucees in my state of Florida, I grab at least a pack of roasted pecans encrusted with cinnamon and sugar
I've seen buc-ee's in other states. It's just that Texas has the most and certainly the largest and most famous ones. I have family in Idaho and there are buc-ee's there. Florida, Alabama etc. They're all over. But if you want to truly experience one, go to Texas for sure!
This Buc-ee's location is in New Braunfels, TX. It is no longer the biggest. (I live in a small town between San Antonio & New Braunfels, so this is the Buc-ee's I visit.) Love their kolaches & fudges. A new one is being built in Luling, TX, to replace their first one on Interstate 10. The new Luling location is supposed to be the next largest one. (Buc-ee's has already expanded into other states.) ❤
KBD Productions also did a 24 hours at Buc-ee's. He is from Canada and I don't think the Buc-ee's was in Texas, but they did try a lot of the food. There are several channels that have done their version of a tour.
Buc-ee’s started in Texas but has expanded into other states. 1st location was in Clute, headquarters in Lake Jackson. There are 20 stores around Houston area
Your family is amazing, I love how your son takes over for you when your not there. He makes sure he pauses the videos and ask questions to get mom and sister to Interact and comment more on the videos, so cute. Dad has taught him well. Both your son and daughter our mini versions of you and your wife is so sweet and nice , I hope you all get to come visit America ☺️🇺🇸
The roasted and candied nuts are so good! It smells so good when they are making them too! I’ve lived in Texas almost 47 years, and I love places like this!
The kolaches are exactly what you are thinking Kat. They have the meat ones that have a sausage inside the bread/roll and they have many fruit kolaches that are the pastry like you would expect from Eastern Europe.
Buc-ee's started in Texas in 1982 and now there are stores in other states in the south: Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, and South Carolina.
In Texas what they call kolaches is actually a klobasnek. The thing is that they know the difference but just don't care. They are just going to call them whatever they like. Buc-ees originated in Texas. But they have locations in several other states.
Loving your family, and your video reactions!! You're great!! As a Texan, myself, I hoping you'll have the chance to live & relocate here to the North Texas area (the City of MCKINNEY, in Collin County, a suburb of Dallas, that's one of the most family-oriented and safest places to live; wtih a Bucee's just 20 minutes away 🙂 Crossing my fingers, hoping you'll make it her soon 🙂
I stopped at the new one in Kentucky. It's even bigger than this location. It has something like 217 fuel pumps and 1000 spots for cars to park. The salted caramel fudge was my favorite, followed by the peppered jerky and shaved brisket sandwich. Definitely recommend
Buc ees is in several states now, including Tennessee, Florida and Georgia not just Texas. If you go make sure to not get in a hurry. It takes time to take it all in.
The Buc-ee's near us has the longest car wash in the world at 255 feet. And across I-10 freeway sits a Bass Pro Shop, along with a giant mall! If y'all visit Texas all of you could knock off a do it list item.
Buckee's is in a few other states now I live in Tennessee and they opened up the current world's largest Buckee's here in Sevierville,TN and they're fixing to open up another one in Murfreesboro, TN.
That gas station had 132 petro pumps. I went there last year and was impressed by the artwork in the clean bathrooms. Who does that? And Buc-ees is expanding into Tennessee and Colorado.
Don't forget the shirts, sweatshirts and travel items. So much cheaper and you'll need them on your trip. Blankets! Don't forget travel blankets! Such deals! You're going to have so much fun!
They have expanded operations outside the borders of Texas. At Christmas I stopped at a brand new store in Springfield Missouri which is the northernmost. Two each in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Don’t confuse Buc-ees of the SE with Bucky’s in and around Chicago.
Okay, so there are 2 different kinds of kolaches. Living in Slovakia, you may think of kolaches as what Texas would refer to as fruit danishes. But Germanic settlers in Texas brought with them kolaches that are typically breakfast meats and cheese. They are incredible.
Bucees isn't just in Texas anymore. They are branching out all over the south. I personally know of 2 in Georgia, & 1 in Florida, probably more & definitely other southern states. ❤
I live in Kentucky and just recently got a Buccees in our state...unfortunately not close to where i live...lol..it's probably a couple hours from my area
Hey guys, you did a great job on your solo video! Very interesting and fun. Just so you know, Buc-cees is located in a bunch of other Southern states, not just Texas. It's fun ny you called Garrin "Little Beaver." Many years ago there was a comic book my father read as a young boy, called _Red Ryder._ His side-kick was a little Indian boy named Little Beaver! How cool is that?
Know it is a couple of weeks olde but some of the best kolaches will eat are made at a couple of places in the town of West Texas not far from Waco. When I called on customers in that area even when headed home I had to make a stop.
You know you have a huge drink when they have to make the bottom of the glass smaller to fit in the drink holder in the center console of your vehicle.
Also the green pump is Diesel and the Black is unleaded gas, unlike in Europe where it is the other way around. Buc-ee's has left Texas. I live in Colorado and one is coming here this year.
Back in the 70's when fast food chains really started exploding, there were no self-serve fountain drink stations, and cup sizes were similar to what you saw in the rest of the world. However, as the number of fast food restaurants grew to the point where they were eating into each others profits, they had to try to outdo each other - one of the first things that happened was Super-sizing - where you got bigger burgers, more fries and bigger cup sizes. The problem is that it took time to fill a drink and the larger the drink the more time it took. And with fast-food, the emphasis was on fast. In addition in the 70's most of the workers at fast food restaurants were part-time High School and College Students who were exempt from minimum-wage laws so they could be paid less than minimum wage. Once that exemption was rescinded, the time = money factor became more important so that is when self-serve fountain drinks became the norm. And since soft drinks had the biggest profit margins by far (just sugar water and some flavoring), offering larger cups was not a big deal on the bottom line, especially if your employee didn't have to fill it and you could serve more customers with the time savings.
Large drinks . . . On a hot Texas day, you would be able to drink the whole thing over a couple of hours. Water would be better for you on a hot day though. There is one jerky I wouldn't try again. I think it was Cherry something. Such an artificial cherry flavor. Kolaches in Texas can be a sweet pastry or savory bread. Some of the Buc-ee's can be ordered on the US Amazon. Set up a wish list.
Buc-ees has spread to many states, but Texas is home turff. It's an odd combination of gas/petrol station and Walmart, Gregg's, what have you. Definitely a must if you visit. It personifies (not America but) 'Murica!
Buc-ees isn’t only in Texas anymore! In 6 weeks the newest ‘biggest Buc-ees in the World’ will open in Northern Colorado! The biggest lasts a short time because they are building everywhere!
Texas has a total area of 268,820 square miles (696,241 km²), or 2.86 times the size of the UK and 14.2 times the size of Slovakia.
California is still larger.
@@garycamara9955
Only Alaska is bigger than Texas, as far as states go. California is 3rd 🥉
California is better than Texas and Alaska.
Chicago and NYC are the best
Its roughly half the size of South Africa.
Texas is Lame

Oklahoma as well... my mother's family is bohemian (from the czech side)
@@beckycordell7038 It annoys me too. That's exactly why I make a point of differentiating kolache and klobasnek,
@@beckycordell7038people think Klobasnik is a kolache, they have no idea how wrong they are. Both are delicious but not the same.
@@beckycordell7038 Some do, some don't. I grew up knowing kolaches of wide tastes and application and the mind goes to dessert kolaches first.
I loved this video, nice to see mom in charge of a video instead of dad for once lol. Can’t wait to see more reactions videos ❤
Great video, y’all.

Spot on. I typically have about 20-24 oz of soda in a 44 oz cup. I have traveled the world and ice is a blessing.
I wont drink a soda without ice, iced tea as well needs ice.
Not me. I don't use ice if the drink itself is already cold 😂. More drink for me
Those are self-serve drinks, so people can dispense their own ice or no ice. Most people I know like a lot of ice. Anyway, the refills are free.
Not me. I get very little ice, just enough to keep it cold and the rest is soda.
Hello Graham Family! I love the set up of you guys in this one! I can see everyone clearly and hear everyone. Ms K, wow, it's as if you have been doing this for years!! Great job!! Ms D : )
