Texan here. Dont freak out when we hold the door open for you. Even if you are quite a distance away, a lot of us will still make sure to hold the door open for the person behind us, especially if a lady is amongst the crowd. Dont feel rushed, or weird, a simple thank you will do. Also, if I have the door held open for me and the place we are entering has a line, i always stop to let the person who held the door open for me get in the line first. Its just the gentlemanly thing to do.
Another Texas here, along the border with Mexico, you will find young Hispanic people hold the door, encouraged by their elders. When a man holds a door for me, a 79 yo woman, and there is an inside door, I really enjoy holding the inside door for the man. He is usually so surprised. Yes, many hotels do not have a thirteenth floor, because it is considered bad luck. We all know that the fourteenth floor really is the thirteenth floor, but labeling it with the number fourteen makes many people feel better!🙃 About renting a vehicle here, remember we drive on the right side of the road, and oncoming traffic is on the left side. When I visited England and Scotland many years ago, I drove around Scotland. Luckily, there was little traffic on my first day, but even when I was a bit more comfortable with driving on the wrong side of the road, when my car and an oncoming car met on the frequently one lane “roads,” one of us would have to back up to a siding, where two cars could pass. I found that almost as unnerving as trying to remember to look to my right first, then my left. In America, we look to our left, and then to our right to cross a road. A number of times I was saved by other pedestrians when I looked in the wrong direction first, thought the road was clear, and started to cross. Scary! But mostly, you will find Americans to be glad to help you, often asking if you need help, and then asking where you are from. We are very proud of our country, and most of us are delighted to have folks from other countries visit us, and see just how diverse America is. Hope you can make the trip one day. Happy New Year from the southmost tip of Texas, Brownsville.
I'm from Mississippi and was visiting someone in Maryland when I was 16yo (by myself). I was going to get on the subway and stopped to let the guy next to me open the door and he did, then walked through it and absolutely did not hold it. Lol I was so embarrassed. I was just so used to holding the door for others and having others hold the door for me that it was like a reflex. Damn yankees.
70 yr old Texan here. About RVs, if you get a large one you can expect to get about 7 miles per gallon. RV parks can run about $45 per night. An RV can be an expensive option. I might suggest you rent a van or minivan and sleep in motels. You will also get much better gas mileage. See my next comment.
I would also add to think about where you’re going and whether an RV is going to be easy to manage on the roads and if you have to park it somewhere. You just can’t park an RV any old place. It’ll be awkward in cities or in congested areas. RVs are best for the wide open spaces and routes that have plenty of RV parks. Don’t forget to check driving rules as they can vary from state to state and make sure you have the right licensing to drive an RV. RV license requirements vary widely. Just a few extra thoughts.
Literally my thoughts as well. Also Texan here, only ever rented RVs to go camping in the wilderness. They are not for major cities and many places will tow if you attempt to park overnight, so you really need routes with dedicated RV parks, which, of course, aren't free. I'd say for the trip these guys seem to be planning, a large SUV and staying at some cheap airbnbs or hotels just outside the major metro areas might do them well.
The hospitals have measures in place for those that don’t have insurance I had to go to the er and got a bill for about $4000 after talking to them it was moved to just under $500 and they did monthly payments of $25 until it was paid most of that talk is people who don’t like our hospitals so it is exaggerated also it is not worth their time to go after you outside the USA because they can write your bill off as charity and get tax breaks for it so it is not worth taking legal action over seas
I lived in a small southern town where there were no buses, no trains, and the only taxi was driven by an 85 year old man for about 5 hours a day. When he died, even that was gone.
Don't you guys use that as gravy? LOL Was gonna say it varies widely. California it's floating around $5/gal but in Idaho where my sister lives it's around $3 -$3.50 or so. In Michigan it's floating around $2.80/gal
Definitely stay at a hotel that's not too expensive. Make sure it has free breakfast.. nothing fancy, just rolls, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee.. (as long as you're not rude about it you usually can take a bunch up to the room if you're a family), and I always slip a banana, or yogurt for later.. Coffee!!! Then you can go to the tourist areas to see things and plan on a Late Lunch or early dinner that you really love. For us we always plan on one meal out a day after filling up with the early free breakfast. You save money. If money means nothing to you then go for the expensive breakfasts and try DINERS,,, Diners always have the best breakfast food, good home cooking
The last free breakfast at a hotel for me was a couple of days ago. Eggs bacon toast hashed browns, toast and coffee, also a Waffle with syrup. Free for breakfast.
Gas prices can vary town to town in any state, we're at 3.09 a gallon here in NW Co If your RVing get a small one and plan on using public lands to actually camp on a lot. Saves a lot o $$
Wolter sometimes overstates thing on his channel. But he does give good advice sometimes as well. Many cities do have public transport that doesn't suck but most do. Yes you can travel the US by train but only in a few corridors & don't expect a great trip. Just passed a fuel station today. $2.49 a gallon in Ft. Worth Texas. He is right about hotels. Now if your viewers pay for a couple of nights in the Driskoll (Austin) or the Ritz-Carlton (NYC) by all mean stay there!
Thanks for the video! Gasoline is currently at $3.04 a gallon for 87 octane (about 80c per litre) here in Cody, Wyoming. If you come here, most peole would love a discussion about gun control (as long as you're against it)!
If you're paying $1.56/L for Gas that would be, $5.91/Gal. To put that into perspective here in Whitsett (NC) North Carolina our current Gas Price for Unleaded Fuel is $2.89/Gal.
You guys def need to come to Pensacola, Florida! We’ll provide you guys a place to stay overnight. Our beaches were voted “Whitest Beaches on Earth” twice by Travel Channel viewers. The history in our area is incredible! Fort Pickens was where Geronimo was held and it’s the home of the Blue Angels Navy flight team (the museum is incredible). Tons of great restaurants.
In terms of the "52 States" thing, I'm pretty sure they accidentally counted Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as American states. It happens all the time. There was a debate a while back about making Puerto Rico the 51st state, but it never went anywhere.
Instead of an RV, I'd recommend just renting a huge SUV and staying in hotels. It will probably be cheaper. And it will be 100x easier to get around. RVs are big and unwieldy even for US roads. Many people with RVs in the US tow a car behind them because of how cumbersome the RVs can be. When I was younger, I used to drive from Chicago to Orlando straight through, just stopping for gas, food, and bathrooms. I'm getting too old for that now. I can drive from Oklahoma to Orlando straight through in an emergency now. But I'm so wiped out when I get there that I lose the day sleeping anyway. So we stop half way to spend the night now. I once drove from Los Angeles to Orlando with my mother. Taking turns driving and sleeping at night, it took us five days. Some places charge for things like chips and salsa. They consider it an appetizer. Other places include it for free like he said. It's totally acceptable socially to just ask the waitress what's included and what isn't. They'll hear your accent and know you're foreign. Any educated person in the US is going to be familiar with the metric system. But they'll probably be more comfortable with imperial. Gas here in Oklahoma is $2.39 a gallon at the moment. Most places in the US will be a little higher. In the major cities it could be much more.
Tipping - Most people tip according to the service they get. Bad service gets no tip. Do they smile, are they helpful, did you get refills without having to hunt down someone. ? How long did you have to wait for menus , was your food cold instead of hot when you got it?.
@Mr.Dobalina_Mr.BobDobalina Yeah that is way too much! Especially for the 87. I'm from Mississippi and the $2.69 is about the cheapest I can find on my way to work.
The price of gas in East Tennessee, we're I'm from is around,$2.50 a gallon. In San Diego California where gas prices are the highest it's $4.30 a gallon.
Update to the smoking age at 11:32. To buy any tobacco product you have to be 21 or up. It's been that way for a couple years. I know this video is 5ish years old.
Man I have barely traveled out of my state and never been to a national park. There are so many travel spots and cool state parks I have yet to see just in my state. Not to mention just to drive over to another state it will be a good portion of your day driving none stop to get to the border of your state.
19:47 - There is also the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) and Puerto Rico, in addition to the 50 states in the U.S. That is why people believe that there are 52 states.
I have driven from Washington DC to Los Angeles California twice, and it took 4 days of driving with very few stops except to pee, sleep, and eat. I would eat breakfast and lunch on the go, only stop and eat dinner before bed.
Smoking is banned in a lot of places but it is not banned like he made it seem. Many places have designated smoking areas. I live in the US and smoke and there are many other smokers that live here as well. I just wanted to clarify.

My suggestion is to make sure you have each one’s medical records in case of any complications on a computer or portable device to let doctors know if say someone is allergic to say penicillin or cannot use some painkillers any and all would help in an emergency situation.
“How’s it going” in the US may invite a brief explanation of your current condition depending on your relationship with the person asking. This question when asked genuinely will just be asked with a different tone that indicates it’s a real question.
My family used to drive from the center area of north carolina all the way to the southern most part of florida. We are talking anywhere between 14 and 20 hours depending on traffic. We'd stop one time to hit the bathroom, get food, and then leave and we would do this as quickly as possible. Seven hours nonstop is lightwork for us.
To give you an idea in the state of California it could be 60° or more and then you drive a couple hundred miles up by San Francisco to the mountains and you can go skiing
I tried a new (to me) Mexican restaurant the other day. Whoever thought of bacon wrapped shrimp was brilliant! If you’re in Arizona be sure to try a Sonoran hot dog at a roadside stand.
where i am it is 2.82$ per gallon and also i would respond to " how is it going?" with " not to bad, how about yourself?" and they would respond, so like he said, its not the same everywhere
on the tipping, servers at restuarants only make 3 dollars an hour because most of their money is from tips, gas is 86-1.00 a liter depending where your at.
Yes, as he is telling the truth, when you're in. Bigger cities like I'm from New York, so yes, it's not really wise to have a car here because public transportation is key. And you can get around just fine without it. But smaller cities or especially even in the south yes
5:55 lol I drove (alone) home from Asheville North Carolina to Columbus Ohio 6+ hours at 6months pregnant.. through the mountains in a Fiat 500 (no power on mountains) and stopped only one time because I had to poop (pregnancy).. it was nothing to drive that far.. I have driven from Ohio to coco beach Florida straight through the night with only cigarettes and music getting me home (that’s about 14 hours).. 13:05 2.97 a gallon in Ohio today.. $7 a gallon in Slovakia?!? wtf is there gold in it??
Hi from New York. I recently seen Exxon mobile gas station selling $3.07 per gallon. Thats 3.79 liters for € 2.81 converted. But some other gas stations go around $3.50 per gallon. So around $3 to - $3.75 per gallon. In New York.
Canadians regularly go to Florida during the winter. It is a 24 hour drive from Toronto to Orlando. I will usually drive 16 hours to Charlotte then another 8 to Orlando. I regularly drive to Montreal from Toronto , spend the day with my daughter and return home on the same day. 4.5 hours from Toronto to Montreal. Keep in mind Canada 🇨🇦 is larger the U.S. The province I live n makes Texas look like a little boy.
I live in Los Angeles county and it’s not unusual for us down here to drive four hours north in the morning to attend a funeral stay there a few hours and come back the same day. Road trips are much easier to deal with then heavy traffic within the city.
The biggest don't--don't worry. By-and-large, Americans are very friendly and accommodating. If you happen to commit a faux paus, just identify yourself as a foreigner and you'll likely find you'll not only be forgiven but embraced and questioned about where you're from, and very likely invited to a family dinner so they can learn more about you. Americans love to meet people from other countries and hear of their home and experiences.
Gas in my area of Texas is $2.65 ($2.42 Euros) per gallon today. This is about 98 cents (0.90 Euro) per liter. Gas is almost twice as much in California.
Enjoy your family’s reactions Gas in Connecticut currently anywhere from $3-$3.20/gallon I agree with the video where he said pick a region or 2 depending on how long you are staying.
Here in my area of Georgia USA the current price of a regular gallon of gas runs from 2.79 to 2.95 depending on the station. Some stations will discount their gas maybe 5 cents a gallon if you pay with cash rather than a credit card.
Where Wolters was filming his video is Mystic, Connecticut. To his left is a famous museum called 'Mystic Seaport'. It is a replica of an 1830s Whaling Seaport. Nearby is the Mystic Aquarium which is a nice spot, too. In the northeast, Public transportation is good, so if you land at Kennedy. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor (Washington DC to Boston and beyond) is the busiest part of Amtrak. New England is an underrated region of America. We might have been the birthplace of America, and you can visit a seaport museum, an 1830 mill village (Old Sturbridge Village), a park where Dinosaurs roamed (Dinosaur State Park), the birthplace of the Hamburger (Lois Lunch in New Haven), a pizza mecca (New Haven), Yale University (historic, third oldest university in the USA, lots of museums.) Not sure when you are visiting, however I would spend a day at a sporting event, Americans are passionate about sports. As Wolters said, pick a region. You can spend all your vacation looking at sites. Americans may not be world travelers, but we like to explore different regions before exploring the world.
I paid US$2.70 per gallon for gasoline yesterday, which is about 71 US Cents per liter. That is about 0.64 Euros per liter. I live in SE Louisiana and prices here are often a bit less because Louisiana both produces and refines oil so transportation costs are less. Note the sales taxes for fuel (diesel and gasoline) ARE included in the price at the pump (you don't pay extra after the sale).
I'm in California and we have some of the highest gas prices in the US. I paid $4.79/gallon today. Love your channel and I hope you make it to the US one of these years. Also, I have an additional don't for you. If you go to a national park don't think that you can do just whatever you want. The rules of the park are there for your protection, not just from animals but also from geological features that might be dangerous. So don't try to pet the grizzly bears, don't step off the paths to get a better picture of the geysers, don't club over the fences so you can sit on the edge of the grand canyon, and don't leave trash, graffiti, or anything else that might destroy the beauty of the park.
I drive everywhere along the east coast. 10 hrs to fish in maine fir a week. 12 grs down to my brithers hiuse in huntersville north carolina. Add anotger 7 ir 8 hrs to florida from huntersville no carolina. This way i can take my time and see all. I live in northern Connecticut
When you come to USA , you guys have a place to stay if you're in the Destin/Ft Walton Beach, FL. Beautiful beaches here. Look it up and you will see what I mean. We have a small house, but there's plenty of room.
So let me say I love watching you all and you have such honest reactions. If you by chance ever make it to Oregon or the Pacific North West please shoot me a message. Born and raised here and no better tour guide then one that grew up in the place. Please be safe and healthy and dont stop doing your video's my family loves them.
in case your wondering the 13th floor. it's not that its unlucky. its a superstition that the not only is the 13th floor haunted but it also stems from a story that didn't actually happen where a hotel had a failed cable in an elevator where it fell and everyone on the car died.
A good idea for how much to tip is to take the tax and double it. So in California if you get a 5 person meal for $100 the tax will be about $8 and a $15-16 tip is good.

My suggestion is to make sure you have each one’s medical records in case of any complications on a computer or portable device to let doctors know if say someone is allergic to say penicillin or cannot use some painkillers any and all would help in an emergency situation.
Fuel runs$ 2.99-4.99 dollars a gallon depends on your location
Right now, at the gas station down the street from me, gas is $2.93/gallon for regular.
I drive from Central Texas to Alabama to see families it takes 14 hours and I drive straight through.
Gas in Lubbock, TX, right now is about $2.64 per gallon.
In Central Massachusetts, just say mass, gas is currently about $3us a gallon or 3.40 a gallon in the suburbs.
Hello Graham Family! Great video, once again! Ms D :)
Gas costs $2.70 per gallon at my local Walmart here in Arkansas. That's about $.71 per liter.
Lately gas has ranged from $2.39 - $2.89 a gallon in Dallas, TX.

@@dn822 City, comma, state is the standard in English, especially in the USA. Any other usage is going to confuse someone.
I live in Southern Arkansas and gas prices right now are $2.62 per gallon.
When I was working I had a 4 hour round trip to work, about 2 hours there and another 2 hours home.
I drove Michigan to Los Angeles 32 hours straight thru no sleep, once 2 weeks later drove straight thru back
Gas/Petrol is all over the board depending on how far you are from the plant/refinery. Close to Phoenix - right now is $3.69/gallon USD.
Gas is $2.56 per gallon here in Davenport, Iowa today.

Converting gallons to liters (1=3.78) here in California currently is equivalent to $1.13 per liter. Or $4.30 a gallon
Fun video; sending love from Boston.
Right now, our gas is $3.14 a gallon so a lil cheaper if your fuel is a liter at 1.60 and there’s 4 L in our gallons
Visit the wine country in Nor Cal. I'm in Sonoma County. We have many wineries, all open to the public.
I regularly drive to Montreal from Toronto
, spend the day with my daughter and return home on the same day.
I did the conversion, and the US national average for 1 Litre of regular grade gasoline is 81 Euro cents, so just over half the cost in Slovakia.
My wife and I drove from Sacramento, Ca to Houston, Tx. It was 28 hours straight with only bathroom breaks.
I drove from NY to Virginia with only one break. It took 9 hours. But it’s expected here.
My dad hates stopping when driving. He drove from Colorado to ny (24ish hrs non-stop) in one trip!
Most hotels there is a 13th floor but it is a matinance floor that is not assessable to everyday public
Gas in my area of Texas is $2.65 ($2.42 Euros) per gallon today. This is about 98 cents (0.90 Euro) per liter. Gas is almost twice as much in California.
Smoking is actually extremely common. just banned or frowned upon in public businesses
Enjoy your family’s reactions
Gas in Connecticut currently anywhere from $3-$3.20/gallon
I agree with the video where he said pick a region or 2 depending on how long you are staying.
Springfield, IL (Southwest of Chicago about 3 hours) gas is around $2.60 at the moment.
12:44 It depends on where you are and can even vary between petrol stations.
Here in my area of Georgia USA the current price of a regular gallon of gas runs from 2.79 to 2.95 depending on the station. Some stations will discount their gas maybe 5 cents a gallon if you pay with cash rather than a credit card.
2.99 in Cornelia
I live in Arkansas. Gas is 2.40 a gallon right now.
Gas price per gallon today in my part of New Jersey was $2.81 per gallon.
depending on where in teh US...range can be 2.30 - 5.00+ a gallon for gas (California is ALWAYS the high one)
We might have been the birthplace of America, and you can visit a seaport museum, an 1830 mill village (Old Sturbridge Village), a park where Dinosaurs roamed (Dinosaur State Park), the birthplace of the Hamburger (Lois Lunch in New Haven), a pizza mecca (New Haven), Yale University (historic, third oldest university in the USA, lots of museums.)
Not sure when you are visiting, however I would spend a day at a sporting event, Americans are passionate about sports.
As Wolters said, pick a region. You can spend all your vacation looking at sites. Americans may not be world travelers, but we like to explore different regions before exploring the world.
I have been to every state except one. North Dakota here we come!
-18C ain't no joke! I used to work in a frozen food warehouse that was -24C 24/7/365 for 10 hours a day.
I'm in the Chicago suburbs. Gas (petrol) is about $2.75 per gallon right now or about $0.73 per liter. Gas is a lot cheaper here. ;-)
In my town, 1 gallon 3.79, in Nov.- Dec.- 4.50-4.99. Each, town, city, county, state, different.
In Michigan where i live its running $2.60 a gallon right now.
Fuel today where I live in the Texas Panhandle is about 2.35 to 2.39 a gallon. I believe that’s around .70ish cents per liter. 😊
Gas in AZ yesterday was $3.29/gal.
Gasoline here in the Phoenix area averages just over $3 per gallon.
Yep, we have some high gas prices. I live in SoCal. Paid $5.20 today.
Jono, paid $2.42/gallon yesterday in Texas
Gas is depending on where you go. Here where I live in North Carolina it just came down to $2.85 USD per gal.
Welcome to America!😊
Gas today here in central Texas is $2.49 a gallon..
Current it is $3.50 gallon for gas in Florida
Oh man I remember dollar menus! What a good time 😂 Cajun here from Houma Louisiana.
I filled up my truck today at $2.39 a gallon in Texas. One U.S. gallon is about 4 liters...that would hurt for the 20 gallon tank on my truck.
It's around $1.05 per litre here near Dallas,TX
