Tedeschi Trucks Band perform Preachin' Blues with Warren Haynes as a special guest vocalist and guitarist at the 2016 Beacon Theatre run. Video by Marc Lowenstein and Vikas Nambiar.
This song is awesome. I think it became really popular in England because it says things that they couldn’t say about the crown in England. You can’t say your preacher or politicians are stealing. That’s why rap became more popular.
Liked it much better when Derek did this when he was in his early 20s with DTB and Javier Colon singing. Had more groove. And of you think this tone is good, find some of those old DTB shows. Derek's tone with this band has always sounded thin to me in comparison. Bring back DTB!
Love the song but gotta fact check it a little bit. Worked my butt off doing physical stuff in my life and I'm a retired preacher. There is a reason preachers nap on Sunday afternoons. It is hard work, if you are doing it right. If you don't put your heart and soul into preaching, then you ain't preaching then you are just talking and that ain't working.
The thing is this is not just a song : it is blues as a feeling and the words have to be put back to the times this was written by Son House. Most of the people who listened to blues music at that time couldn't read or write and were restricted to manual jobs (in contrast to more intellectual matters). For these people there was no other work than those they were permitted to do. So these words refer to a period of the world's history where priests and preachers had actually a "better" life than the others Sorry for my poor English (I'm European and French speaking...)
In other countries, especially here in the Philippines, a lot of preachers during the Spanish colonization era were full of corruption and did little to no work except sell indulgence, get women, or whatever. I'm sure the same conditions also happened to other places
really sly and beautiful, but they are gonna run out of tasteful covers to do at some point. writing great originals is hard/impossible, but it seems essential to sustain things as a fully realized band. maybe i'm missing something, but all the videos that pop up are them playing classic rock covers (in cool ways).
Derek Trucks keepin' blues guitar alive and well into the 21st Century!
This version here!
Doesn't get any better than this!
Not being a huge fan of the Mule I forget that Warren can really sing and he and Derek together are pure synergy. Thanks guys
Incredible! Warren and the T.T. Band is one of the greatest blues combinations I've ever heard. Just wow!
Derek's tone is godly
This is great.

Well, the blues, is a achin' old heart disease
12 souless, sad bastards out there that don't like this....probably stumbled across it looking for yet another Beiber video.
AZCobraman probably Roy Moore supporters who don’t have a sense of humor

Can't agree
i'd give any one of my toes for dtb to be able to do another run, and i don't think i'm kidding.
Jeremy Spencer did it MUCH better!
This is the shit
I might have missed it, but I don't think Warren Haynes played his guitar in this tune.
I believe he had it ready to segue into Keep On Growing or another face melter
Didn't you learn any at all in church?

Not according to Warren Haynes. Baptist Preacher = no work. Who you gonna believe? Warren of course......😉
Viewed from the outside... kinda like 'money for nothing and your chicks for free....' ;)
Thank ain't workin'. :)

Oh no you didn't
If you become a Baptist Preacher you gonna work
