I watched this in a pub in London with my mates as a cocky 20 something! We was laughing and cheering at half time! There was a couple of older Welsh guys from our rugby club having a quiet pint, at the final whistle they said nothing just a glance was enough. I learned a few lessons that day, respect and dignity in victory, and don’t count your chickens, especially when playing rugby against the Welsh! Deja fuckin vu!!!😆😂🤣
I was in a bar in Fuengirola, Spain, where we were outnumbered in a pub called Alfies 20-1 by English lads, and my m8 had got so pissed the night before that he was sleeping on the beach. When we left, his 2 footprints were visible by sand. It was 2008. We won somehow and the English lads came over and shook our hands, we didn't gloat as we were looking deep in the souls of our players and thinking we might have a grand slam on the go here, and they did. Us Welsh are not all bad m8, and neither is the English boys. Proper sport is rugby.
I was there with my children. We were sitting in front where Scott scored. The trip up on the club bus, pre match entertainment, the game, after match celebrations, trip back. Unforgettable. Best rugby day ever.
That, folks, was a Rugby League try... "Scott [Quinnell] and I called a move we had never practised," says Gibbs. "We'd both returned from rugby league and during the week I had talked about a play we used at St Helens that the scrum-half Bobbie Goulding used a lot. The forwards would pack the midfield and he would run across, showing the ball to the opposition before slipping a short pass to someone bursting up. "It was often devastating. I devised a version of our own when Scott [Quinnell] would get the ball, run across the field, taking defenders with him, and I would come charging through at an angle, take a short pass and blast through the defence. We talked about it but never rehearsed it. We were all knackered when it came to that lineout and I told Scott to call it." When Gibbs received the ball he cut to the right before straightening up and riding Rodber's challenge, skipping over Neil Back's ankle tap and evading Matt Dawson's lunge. He was by now well inside England's 22, legs pumping. He swerved outside the England full-back, Matt Perry, and with an outrageous swing of the hips, veered right leaving the last line of defence, Steve Hanley, like a spinning top. "Everyone was drifting from left to right and I went against the grain." - From 'The Guardian', 13th March 2013.
One of the happiest days of my life -sitting behind the posts watching Scott Gibbs belting over the try line and then Jenkins with the conversion- I could watch this over and over- the sheer excitement that day was mind blowing and the journey back down the M4 with scarves and flags hanging out of car windows -a nice end to the journey home
Glorious stuff. I lost my voice for a few days after all the shouting I did for this one. One of the best Welsh tries ever with the legendary Bill Mclaren commentating. Perfection. Sheer perfection. Let's hope us Welsh rebels can bring the Empire down again today.
I remember this quite well, celebrating like with my dad at home after Gibbs' try. I also remember this took the smug look off Jeremy Guscott's half time face, priceless.
“Scotland get the put in this time” - Bill knew at the back of his mind that Wales’ imminent victory would give Scotland the championship that year and couldn’t contain his excitement! What a legend.
Glad u explained that..But listening to the "Great man"u realise how surely he's missed these days.(and I think Eddie Butler does a god job)He had such a wonderful descriptive ability and turn of phrase!!
We came to England they were hoping for the grand slam , England denied , It was our day Beating England in Cardiff is what you all ways want and it's hell of a buzz! But on that day in 1999 to beat England in England that something special
At 3.26 of the Vid,did the Legendary Bill McClaren say "Scotland get the put in,".No matter he was the "main man"and it's always such an pleasure to hear his commentating and wonderful turn of phrase!..Like listening to some beautiful classical music!👍
If I remember rightly, Clive Woodward was extremely cocky & arrogant before the start of this match, saying they’d crush the Welsh. Well the egg was on his face after Neil Jenkins kicked us to a 32-31 win 🤣🤣🤣
Thing is they where pumping wales for most of the match. Dallaglio said this was the match he learned the most from, take penalties and points instead of kicking for the corner to “ rub their noses in it”
Bill McLaren = The voice of Rugby Football 1:50 all things considered, that is perhaps the best kick Neil Jenkins has done 3:24 SCOTLAND!? I think Mclaren has got a bit confused! 😅
Oh what a perfect day! Nothing better Than beating the Saxons in our ancient homeland...and denying them the Grand slam, Triple crown and Championship! 😉 Yma O Hyd!

And commentary by the greatest ever commentator,Bill McLaren
Since his passing, rugby commentary hasn't been the since. Greatly missed
Even he got confused... at 3.27 he thought Scotland were playing!
@@ianstewart9487 he knew at the back of his mind that Wales’ victory meant Scotland would win the final five nations tournament of all time…
Eddie Butler sadly passed away as well

Mister X yes we did and won all perfect !!
Scotland's hero that day. He won us the last Five Nations title!
Him and jenks boot 👍
The Great Scott!
I remember watching this on a caravan site in West wales, I was crying when Neil Jenkins kicked that kick.

"He's like the leader of a buffalo stampede".....Classic!
Was at the match, sat on the halfway line. What a day, the bus ride home was great, we sang all the way home from Wembley.
The best moment of all time at Wembley and in the history of the 5/6 nations.
One of the best tries I’ve ever seen 💯
Thats because you watch union and its all about kicking goals!!
This was the very first Five Nations tournament I watched. Was a delayed telecast if I remember right. Fell in love with Welsh rugby after this match.
The first five nations tournament you watched was the last five nations tournament ever? What a great shame!

Never tire of this try.
I was in tears. Iain Evans did that to me in 1993 as well.
My most memorable try will never forget watching this!
Still brings a smile and a tear.I was there.
I watched this in the "Tap" In Blaenau Ffestiniog. Best Welsh pub in the north. Jam packed. What a day!!
Special shoutout for Rugby League for that play
That's right. Bobbie Goulding used it while Gibbs was at St. Helens.
Brilliant the way 'Scotland' got the put in :-) 3:25

Why isn't this in the " World's greatest tries"?
one of best days of my life, when either us welsh or scottish got wooden spoon usually during 90s,wales won championship in 1994.
Woodward had already gone up to see that the England ribbons were on the trophy.
Neil Jenkins didn't miss many, what a final 10 minutes
This was the beginning of our happier times :)
Gibbs never bought a drink in Wales again!
Each in turn... What try of Gibbs!
I was there!!!!!!
What a day!!!
A home match for Wales, and on Welsh land.
This won Scotland the championship. Return the favour Friday please guys.

just watching this now and I thought I heard the same thing. What a goon.
It was the 5 Nations not the 6 Nations, Scotland are still the 5 Nations champions because of that try.
Bloody Brilliant Mark!
Best birthday present EVER!!!!!
I was there, unbelievable day 🍻
I remember watching this first time around🤦♂️
Magnificent
Most emotional try ever for me

At 3.17 Dawson looks at the ref and boots the ball out of the scrum. What a cheat ☺
Up yours Claude!!
Tim Rodber blew the tackle.

Did he say Scotland's try at around 40mins!!
'Scotland get the put in this time' only mistake Bill ever made.
He was probably thinking " Scotland have just won the 5 nations " 😁lol

Did Bill say “Scotland get the put in”?
i was at the game - the ball comes out at 3:17 because Dawson flipped it out with his hand
I was there, age 10. Was in the loo taking a piss when this happened. fml. I thought there was an eathquake.
Fking amazing
