      I really appreciate your videos, they're so helpful and specific! Just wanted to let you know the link above is not for your budget hotel video. Not sure if you're still reading these comments, but do you know if there's something going on in Barcelona from October 22-26? Rates are much higher than the weekend and many of the hotels are sold our for those dates. We're planning to be there from the 24th to the 29th for our first visit.

    I have now watched about 20+ of your videos. You do a superb job of providing the information I seek in a highly organized, but not rigid, way. Your photography is excellent as well.
    I wonder if you have opinions about using AirBnB in Spain. I've used it very happily in the US and Norway.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words, James. Our two cents: a substantial part of AirBnb flats in the tourist cities of Spain are in the hand of foreign capital through investment funds. Where you had a local resident before now you have an empty flat during most months of the year (for the investor it pays to have the flat closed most of the year, they recover the investment with 3 or 4 months of tourist rentals). Lifelong local residents were forced to leave and relocate to the outskirts of the cities. Local shops are closing down and being replaced by souvenir shops. The process of urban degradation in places like the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona is probably irreversible, but many of us would like to prevent it from spreading to many other areas.
      As a traveler, as a tourist, I will do everything I can to avoid that my actions have a negative impact in the lives of the people of the places I visit. And Airbnb has contributed immensely to the housing shortage in the tourist cities of Spain, the displacement of locals and the disruption in residential neighborhoods unlucky to have gained "Airbnb" neighbors.
      On top of that, there are many regulations in place limiting short-term rentals through the platforms. In a substantial number of cases, they are completely illegal.

      @@AEngineerDU thanks for understanding. Locals can no longer afford to live in the city centres due mostly, but not exclusively, to the activities of AirBnb.

      Hola Dora, be very welcome to the channel! Hotel Colón has an excellent location, right in front of the cathedral. It doesn't have a metro station nearby, but within a 10 minute (on foot) radius you have access to several useful metro lines. You will be able to visit on foot all the neighbourhoods that form part of the old city. The Passeig the Gràcia is not that far either.
      As for the New Years Eve, there's usually a big celebration right in front of the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc. But it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. We don't know yet whether it will return this year. You'll have to wait and see. If you want, give us a shout in December and we'll check that out for you. ¡Un abrazo!

    I plan to visit Barcelona for Christmas holidays, plan to stay 6 nights either in AC hotel Som or AC hotel Forum. I know these are a bit further from cental locations, but are basically free due to loyalty program. Could you recommend one of these two in terms of better location, nicer area, public transport connectivity and general safety? Thanks!

Essence is a small 2* boutique hotel while the Catalonia hotel is a 4* + hotel, which means a higher standard of service.

    Thanks, Hugh

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Hugh, a substantial part of AirBnb flats in Barcelona are in the hand of foreign capital through investment funds. Where you had a local resident before now you have an empty flat during most months of the year (for the investor it pays to have the flat closed most of the year, they recover the investment with 3 or 4 months of tourist rentals). Lifelong local residents were forced to leave and relocate to the outskirts of Barcelona. Local shops are closing down and being replaced by souvenir shops. The process of urban degradation in places like the Gothic Quarter is probably irreversible, but many of us would like to prevent it from spreading to many other areas of Barcelona.
      As a traveler, as a tourist, I will do everything I can to avoid that my actions have a negative impact in the lives of the people of the places I visit. And Airbnb has contributed immensely to the housing shortage in the city, the displacement of locals and the disruption in residential neighborhoods unlucky to have gained "Airbnb" neighbors.
      On top of that, there are many regulations in place limiting short-term rentals through the platforms. In a substantial number of cases, they are completely illegal.
      All the best.

    HELLO, THANK YOU! tHAT WAS SO INFORMATIVE. I have a question. I would like to buy a property around the city of Barcelona with purchase prices of 150 to 250000 euros. Which area would be safe and reasonable for my goal? thank you for answering.

      Thanks for your words, Masoud. Here in the channel we deal with tourism visits to Spain and Portugal. We do not have the knowledge nor the resources to share advice on other topics. All the best.

    Hi Tony, I'm still undecided about staying at HOTEL BARCELONA CENTER because the reviews are not that good, apparently is very old. Can you recommend another hotel, I want to be close to shopping and Familia Sagrada. Your website is the best, great information. Please let me know, Thanks

      Hi Niki, please leave your questions just the one time, no need to repeat them. If you stay close to Sagrada Familia you won't be close to the shopping areas, and vice versa, you will need to define your priorities. All the best.

    What's your opinion of the Park Hotel in El Born?

      Located on an avenue with heavy traffic, check out comments about noise in the rooms. Location is ok but you will use the public transport to get you to places (very well connected).

    Hello Tony, I really love your videos. I have learned a lot about our trip to Barcelona. Which hotel would you recommend Hotel India, Hotel Royal Passeig de Gracia, or NH Collection Catalonia. Thankyou

      Hi Jon, we don't know of any Hotel India in Barcelona. Both the Royal Passeig de Gràcia and the NH Collection Calderón are excellent hotels with an excellent location, would go for either of them without hesitation.

      @@jonrodrick2672 Hotel Indigo also has a very good location, in terms of quality the two other hotels are superior.

      The area is nice but you will be a bit too far from most Barcelona attractions.

      It has an excellent location for tourism in Barcelona. It's in an area of heavy traffic but close to everything.

    Hi Tony!
    Me and my girlfriend are comming in June to Barselona and after that to Valencia in thah same trip. What are the 2-3 beaches that are best around these two towns? Usually the city beaches are not so spectacular so we can stay near the town for two nights if there is a better beach near. :)

      Hi Al, we don't have a video on the topic yet, mainly because there are no outstanding beaches near the cities. You would have to go to the Costa Brava north of Barcelona.
