I cried for Sun Shang Xiang. She’s a pawn in the entire scheme and yet her feelings were true to her lord. I hated this turnout...yet it makes great storytelling
For the ones that haven't read the book. Zhange Fei died when he was preparing to march on Wu with Liu Bei and he whip and threaten to kill his men if they didn't finish the preperation for the March in 3 days cause he was in a hurry to kill Wu. His head wad later chopped off and brought to Wu.
it seems 9 has the most accuracy when it comes to all of these important cutscenes, but the scenes themselves are tainted by the acting (especially the ENG dub). Meanwhile 7 by FAR has the best writing for the stories, even if certain liberties where taken. You can actually feel the emotional distress.
4 years late but, not super accurate given Zhang Bao and Guan Xing weren't alive at this point and never participated in actual combat. 9 did a good job with these types of scenes, but the acting and presentation let it down.
I've played DW starting from DW4 and it was one of the best I've ever played. After watching all the cinematics, I dare say DW7 got the best portrayed emotions and messages among the entire franchise hands down.
I started with 3, and I can say without a doubt that DW7 was the best in Peru much every aspect. From character design (the last game before they all become anime characters) to the writing, DW7 stands head and shoulders above the rest.
I think Liu Bei's loss of his sworn brothers was probably the tragic of all scenes in all the kingdoms. I really don't think honestly any can top it. Its not the fact you lose ONE person but two and its news has been given at the same time.

Honestly this scene always breaks my heart. Shu was always my favorite story to play in every game and to see one of my favorite characters die like this and how they captured the romance of the three kingdoms novel is amazing
Shu was my favorite too, so you should know they lied. Shu actually won the war and held the throne for 80 years after. Succeeded by Liu Ren, Zang Bao and Guan Ping and their children they squashed two rebellions one led by semi yi and some wei survivors and defeated the mongol invasion. Shu was the Han and china and white people are and always have been jealous of them. China is jealous because they were not from China and white people are jealous because they were actually from Macedonia. I know that may ruin it kind of but no brah the Han dynasty led by the Cromwell family was sick as shit and when they first came to China they actually had to war it up with the great and powerful Meng Dynasty for control of China which they were weaker in army strength but they had more power so they won that as well. Then the 3 kingdoms happened 25 years later and yes they won don't believe the lies
The Reason why Eastern Wu sided with Cao Wei was that Guan Yu not only insulted the Wu messenger about a marriage between Guan Yu's Daughter & someone from Wu, But he also enter one of bunkers own by Wu, Without their approval. Oh. And Zhang Fei was killed by his two lieutenant in his sleep, due to his "Unfortunate Outburst". He never drank.
Sun Quan also always have his eye on Jingzhou, since wu's the one working hard to get it, yet shu swoops in and takes it away. Liu Bei promise them that he'll give jingzhou to wu when he have a proper base, which he did when he conquers Hanzhong. Yet as most lords do he denies that promise when Sun Quan sends messenger to reclaim Jingzhou. That's why he's so adamant in claiming Fan Castle, which is basically the central point for Jingzhou, to the point he cooperate with wei to defeat Guan Yu. Zhang Fei on the other hand force his 2 officers to make a mourning armor set for all shu's army in so little time, and when they beg for more time he punish them by 100 gpod whacking each. Fearing their eventual failure, they plan to assassinate zhang fei at night after he drinks. When they confront Zhang Fei, turns out he literally sleeps with his eye open, which scared the pants out of em. They finally kill him, chop off his head then travels to wu.
Wu _betrayed_ Shu. They gave Liu Bei one city and then they wanted all of Jing back, and that is laughable. They signed a treaty where each side gets 33,33% of Jing and nobody broke that deal until Sun Quan attacked Guan Yu. I don’t know who came up with this narrative that Shu ‘stole’ Jing and promised to give it back later, but Koei took advantage of it to besmirch Liu Bei’s name.
Liu bei let his emotions control him rather than seeing the big picture which led everyone in shu to pay the price and i believe shu was the first kingdom to fall. All due to Liu Bei not seeing the big picture.
The fall of shu has nothing to do with Liu Bei tho. He maybe accelerate his own death by going to war in such old age. But after he dies shu is still powerful. Liu bei also did fought very well in his revenge battle. He goes deep into the territory of wu. But enemies attack him with fire which devastated his huge army. Otherwise if he attacked the capital of wu. He may actually won. You never know what is right in war.
It was actually Zhuge Liangs fault for not listening to Liu Bei before he died. He told Zhuge Liang to rule Shu, not his son, but Zhuge Liang denied his request and crowned Liu Shan as the new ruler of Shu. If play during Cao Pi's story, he says something along the lines "A kingdom is doomed if their ruler is someone who does nothing but sit at the throne" which was what Liu Shan did. Sun Quan was a good leader, but had a bad habit of wanting to be like everyone else instead of being his own person.

So people just placed resident retard Liu Shan in charge (he was thrown to the ground as a baby and received permanent -10 INT. Liu Bei will never be Dad of the Year. Another theory is that Liu Shan is actually a good ruler but said "Fk war." and surrendered to prevent further bloodshed. People noted that there were little to no political strives during his reign. Unlike the other kingdoms that is filled with a bloody court and political struggle or w/e, Liu Shan's Shu remained 'happy and peaceful' with what they had. Sun Quan may be a good leader but his children are not and his officials are shit. Honestly the only real "good 📏" that is also competent in Three Kingdoms is Cao Cao.

Anyone who knows history knows this is entirely the fault of Shu first after the battle of chibi shu stole the jing province with enemies on both sides wu had no choice but to let them have it. Liu bei said he would only keep it until he had a land of his own and even after capturing cheng du liu bei didnt give it back liu bei then said if wu attacked hei fei so they could attack hanzhong he would give PART of it back wu did attack and as a result of that battle they lost and the famed general taishi ci was also killed after a series of battles wu and wei made peace and wu then demanded jing province which guan yu refused to return as promised to wu which ultimately led to Wu allying with wei who promised to give them jing province to wu in exchange for their help which they did as for zhang fei he started to abuse his men especially when drunk and they killed him in his sleep and this was all a result zhuge liangs ideas despite the fact that liu bei and sun quan had become family a pointless fight that could have been avoided if these fools had stopped scheming to be the one kingdom. sun quans idea according to what we know is that if possible all 3 kingdoms should rule together cao cao was power and conquest to show the people order and liu bei was benevolence and to restore the han dynasty which had already failed in the end all three kingdoms died with their leaders and was unifyied under the jin dynasty which was started by sima yi yeah that guy turns out unlike how the early games portrayed he wasnt a complete douche bag still kind of a disappointing end. Personal opinion time best game is still dw3 worst is 6 and 9 ewwww character redesigns were dumb especially liu beis which is why its been slowly going back give em back there original weapons too.
But Shu gave half of Jing and shu did have the rightful heir to the Jing province. I think it was Liu Biao's son. But shu had the momentum in Fan castle just like Wei in Chi bi. If left alone shu probably will conquer Xu Chang by Guan Yu's hand and Wu wouldn't have it.
In dw8 i love how zhuge liang stares at shang xiang. It looks like it intimidates shang xiang so much.. Btw in the real story, ssx doesn’t married to liu bei because she’s obsessed to him but rather as a political stuff
DW3, DW5, DW6: Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang tries to stop him but his pure rage cannot be stopped! DW7: Most brutal and emotional of them all. We all felt that. DW8: Their kids have lived on, but I don't care! An oath is an oath; I will have my revenge! DW9: Most rational; controlled rage, and chronologically accurate portrayal.
A wise man fears 3 things: A storm at see, a night without a moon, and the anger of a gentle man. Liu Bei losing it after the Death of his Sworn Brothers was so difficult to watch.
usually i prefer the superior cutscenes of dw7, but for this one i prefer the 8th one. it just feel more powerful that guan yu childrens are the ones who delivers the message. dw9 is just a shitty stock cutscenes, though the only good thing about it that they can delivers more dialogue that way, but i still dont think its a good tradeoff

Now imagine what wouldve happened if liu bei and zhuge liang gave sun quan his lands back as the original deal stated. No losses in spupplies, soliders and generals would have occurred and a well planned wei invasion would have happened where liu bei would’ve got chang an and luo yang atleast while sun would have taken more southern cities.
Dw 9 seems the least dramatic out of all the other titles. But it also tries its best to be the most true to the events. Just lacks lots of emotion. It very much feels like an old rpg game.
Guan Yu and Zhang Fei... great warriors of Shu... I can understand Lord Liu Bei's pain. Not only were they great friends... they were his sworn brothers. They helped build the foundation of Shu. R.I.P. my lords. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

The dynasty warriors 3 version was the most accurate version. And in truth, i think liu bei was a bastard...because even though he cared so much about his brothers, he referred to wives and children as clothes that arr easily replaceable while his brothers were like limbs. His devotion to his brothers is admirable, but his lack of care in the slightest about his own wives and children is...well i cant really put a word to it. In the story, after zhao yun risken his life to save liu chan/shan, liu bei got his baby boy back and threw him on the ground immidiately because he could have lost his general zhao yun because of the baby needing to be rescued...liu bei didnt even care about the death of his wife who had bore the child nor did he care about his own child at all. Liu bei is seen as a hero, as virtuous...as magnanamous...but in my eyes, no man who treats his family like that is any hero of any sort. Liu bei is a bastard. And i will say that sun quans only mistake was the execution of guan yu. Once jing was seized he should have used guan yu as a bargaining chip to resecure the alliance with shu and make them agree to and accept wu control over jing permanently. Then from there they could have settled the issue with jing and begun full preperations for war with wei. That would be a perfect world, but in the end wei conquered shu and jin usurped wei and conquered wu to end the three kingdoms era. This one moment in time changed all of history.
DW3: Common reaction DW5: Badass reaction DW6: Overacting DW7: Too much reaction DW8: Same as DW7, but tries to maintain his cool and fails DW9: Got back his cool with his mustache and beard and reacted like a boss
All this scenes in DW9 lack drama. Like comparing the opening scene for Wu. 5 and 7 are the best, in my opinion. 5 Is Royal Rage, like the Emperor he was at that time, filled with rage and vengeance, but not lacking even a bit of his regal acts. 7 is more like... Desperation, pure desperation... And it's way more convincing than all others.
I mean DW7 is very good and all, but calling it "too much reaction"? Its the first time someone actually not interested on DW7 version. I mean its considered one of the "best" by a lot of people. But then again, to each their own i guess.
Liu Bei had the best intentions, but as always if enough treacherous lowlifes hit someone he might one day just break and bring his justice to them. Wu is the lowest faction in the game, I even respect Dong Zhou and Yuan Shao more than these insects.
@@Triplebrc it's a lot more complicated than that. even just looking at the dynasty warriors version of things, shu repeatedly messed with wu despite their alliance. obviously wu isn't blameless, but zhuge liang essentially poked the hornets' nest one too many times and caused this.
Who feels bad for Liu Bei? He had to deal with the grief of the death of his sworn brothers... :( Liu Bei is the only one out of the 3 brothers to be still alive. Idk if he ever died in the game?

I guess Romance of Three Kingdoms didn't cover SunShangXiang before the battle of Yi Ling in the year of 222 A.D. According to history, She drowned herself before the night of that battle. DW 7 is kind of inaccurate to that since she was an important part of the marriage alliance between Wu and Shu...Not that its important or anything, But she apparently disappeared soon after the relationship soured between Wu and Shu. (I mean, Either that or she was beheaded some time before the battle took place because Liu Bei died One year Later in the year of 223 A.D. from grief. I'd day DW5 is probably the most accurate reaction since DW 6, DW 7 and DW 8 all portray the histories differently...Like alternate time lines or something like that. Not a fan of thinking too hard about things like this. :') But yea, Just throwing this out there: SunShangXiang Died from Drowning herself along the Chang Jiang River, The great bay right before where the fight at Chi Bi takes place. (Or at least in DW 5 for some reason, The only way to get Liu Bei's 4th Weapon is to encounter her and Kill her before she can run away and successfully retreat.)
To be real with you, historically she didn't give a damn about their marriage, it was for political reasons to keep the alliance between Wu and Shu tight and in check. ShangXiang even fled back to Wu and tried to take Liu Shan with her. Some events from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms are somewhat altered from the history/records of the Three Kingdoms. Some events and battles have may have happened, but they're most likely not 100% accurate, take Hu Lao Gate for example, Guan Yu was said to have slain Hua Xiong in the novel, historically Sun Jian's men took out Hua Xiong, as for Hua Xiong he wasn't much of a threat, he was under the command of another general who was slain by Sun Jian, as note it was Sun Jian who faced Lu Bu, not Liu Bei nor his brothers. As Zhao Yun's feat (not sure the word I'm looking for) at Changban was a lot more simple than what we know of. The link should be in my old comment if it works if you wanna check it out. (*But damn, this was months ago tho.*)
If you all want to know what kind of leader lie bei is, this is it and this is also the moment shu is fucked. Lie bei cannot put aside his desires for revenge as the result, shu were never able to recover after this battle and when straight downhill since. Join wei, wu or jin but not shu.
I mean, I get putting focus on the extended Family, but the way they handled 8 with the kids makes it feel like it's a OC self insert. which I get there's not a lot of info to go on for a few of them, but still, they could have done it where they had roles in the story but didn't have to seem to be the "Main" characters.
Guan Yu's death is due to pride, he brought it down himself and act on his own Zhang Fei personality was an ass so it's just a long time coming for him

Basically a chain reaction, where after Guan Yu died, almost everyone was lost control and let the emotion to do the deed, which explain why Zhang Fei got killed by his own soldier; since those two then decide to flee at Wu out of all place, only added fuel to the fire good enough that Liu Bei decided to annihilated Wu entirely. Wu at first know those two soldier came from Shu for refuge, and send them back to Shu immediately, but that was too late. Once Liu Bei killed them both, he was already on the way marching towards Wu's capital, but ultimately lost due to a fire strategy from Lu Xun. At the end, Liu Bei was utterly regret for his action, and let Zhuge Liang to continue his path for Han's revival.
I understand Liu bei’s feeling but if he had controlled his thirst for revenge shu would have about double or triple the forces they had during the first northern campaign zhuge liang and since most of shu’s forces got killed in the battle of yilling
Even if when i first played dynasty games Wu characters seemed cooler, when i reached this part of the story i was fully with Shu. They stuck to their ideals to bring peace and benevolence till the end. They devised strategies under Kongming sure, but there was no trickery like what Wu pulled off. I guess it took the combined efforts of Wei ,Wu, coward trickery and betrayal to slay the god of war Guan Yu. But this man was a boss till his last breath, true to his title.

Another theory is that Liu Shan is actually a good ruler but said "Fk war." and surrendered to prevent further bloodshed. People noted that there were little to no political strives during his reign. Anyone who knows history knows this is entirely the fault of Shu first after the battle of chibi shu stole the jing province with enemies on both sides wu had no choice but to let them have it. Liu bei said he would only keep it until he had a land of his own and even after capturing cheng du liu bei didnt give it back liu bei then said if wu attacked hei fei so they could attack hanzhong he would give PART of it back wu did attack and as a result of that battle they lost and the famed general taishi ci was also killed after a series of battles wu and wei made peace and wu then demanded jing province which guan yu refused to return as promised to wu which ultimately led to Wu allying with wei who promised to give them jing province to wu in exchange for their help which they did as for zhang fei he started to abuse his men especially when drunk and they killed him in his sleep and this was all a result zhuge liangs ideas despite the fact that liu bei and sun quan had become family a pointless fight that could have been avoided if these fools had stopped scheming to be the one kingdom. sun quans idea according to what we know is that if possible all 3 kingdoms should rule together cao cao was power and conquest to show the people order and liu bei was benevolence and to restore the han dynasty which had already failed in the end all three kingdoms died with their leaders and was unifyied under the jin dynasty which was started by sima yi yeah that guy turns out unlike how the early games portrayed he wasnt a complete douche bag still kind of a disappointing end. Personal opinion time best game is still dw3 worst is 6 and 9 ewwww character redesigns were dumb especially liu beis which is why its been slowly going back give em back there original weapons too.

usually i prefer the superior cutscenes of dw7, but for this one i prefer the 8th one. it just feel more powerful that guan yu childrens are the ones who delivers the message. dw9 is just a shitty stock cutscenes, though the only good thing about it that they can delivers more dialogue that way, but i still dont think its a good tradeoff

The dynasty warriors 3 version was the most accurate version. And in truth, i think liu bei was a bastard...because even though he cared so much about his brothers, he referred to wives and children as clothes that arr easily replaceable while his brothers were like limbs. His devotion to his brothers is admirable, but his lack of care in the slightest about his own wives and children is...well i cant really put a word to it. In the story, after zhao yun risken his life to save liu chan/shan, liu bei got his baby boy back and threw him on the ground immidiately because he could have lost his general zhao yun because of the baby needing to be rescued...liu bei didnt even care about the death of his wife who had bore the child nor did he care about his own child at all. Liu bei is seen as a hero, as virtuous...as magnanamous...but in my eyes, no man who treats his family like that is any hero of any sort. Liu bei is a bastard. And i will say that sun quans only mistake was the execution of guan yu. Once jing was seized he should have used guan yu as a bargaining chip to resecure the alliance with shu and make them agree to and accept wu control over jing permanently. Then from there they could have settled the issue with jing and begun full preperations for war with wei. That would be a perfect world, but in the end wei conquered shu and jin usurped wei and conquered wu to end the three kingdoms era. This one moment in time changed all of history.
But remember that the games portray the novel version of the story

@@Triplebrc it's a lot more complicated than that. even just looking at the dynasty warriors version of things, shu repeatedly messed with wu despite their alliance. obviously wu isn't blameless, but zhuge liang essentially poked the hornets' nest one too many times and caused this.

I guess Romance of Three Kingdoms didn't cover SunShangXiang before the battle of Yi Ling in the year of 222 A.D.
According to history, She drowned herself before the night of that battle. DW 7 is kind of inaccurate to that since she was an important part of the marriage alliance between Wu and Shu...Not that its important or anything, But she apparently disappeared soon after the relationship soured between Wu and Shu. (I mean, Either that or she was beheaded some time before the battle took place because Liu Bei died One year Later in the year of 223 A.D. from grief.
I'd day DW5 is probably the most accurate reaction since DW 6, DW 7 and DW 8 all portray the histories differently...Like alternate time lines or something like that. Not a fan of thinking too hard about things like this. :')
But yea, Just throwing this out there: SunShangXiang Died from Drowning herself along the Chang Jiang River, The great bay right before where the fight at Chi Bi takes place. (Or at least in DW 5 for some reason, The only way to get Liu Bei's 4th Weapon is to encounter her and Kill her before she can run away and successfully retreat.)

To be real with you, historically she didn't give a damn about their marriage, it was for political reasons to keep the alliance between Wu and Shu tight and in check. ShangXiang even fled back to Wu and tried to take Liu Shan with her. Some events from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms are somewhat altered from the history/records of the Three Kingdoms. @@williamdennis3574I doubt it, like I stated most of the events in DW series is based on the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Some events and battles have may have happened, but they're most likely not 100% accurate, take Hu Lao Gate for example, Guan Yu was said to have slain Hua Xiong in the novel, historically Sun Jian's men took out Hua Xiong, as for Hua Xiong he wasn't much of a threat, he was under the command of another general who was slain by Sun Jian, as note it was Sun Jian who faced Lu Bu, not Liu Bei nor his brothers. As Zhao Yun's feat (not sure the word I'm looking for) at Changban was a lot more simple than what we know of. The link should be in my old comment if it works if you wanna check it out.

I mean, I get putting focus on the extended Family, but the way they handled 8 with the kids makes it feel like it's a OC self insert. which I get there's not a lot of info to go on for a few of them, but still, they could have done it where they had roles in the story but didn't have to seem to be the "Main" characters.

Basically a chain reaction, where after Guan Yu died, almost everyone was lost control and let the emotion to do the deed, which explain why Zhang Fei got killed by his own soldier; since those two then decide to flee at Wu out of all place, only added fuel to the fire good enough that Liu Bei decided to annihilated Wu entirely.
Wu at first know those two soldier came from Shu for refuge, and send them back to Shu immediately, but that was too late. Once Liu Bei killed them both, he was already on the way marching towards Wu's capital, but ultimately lost due to a fire strategy from Lu Xun.
At the end, Liu Bei was utterly regret for his action, and let Zhuge Liang to continue his path for Han's revival.
In reall story of Romance of tree Kingdom unfortunately Liu Bei can not make revenge of his brothers and get defeated by the Wo Kingdom!😭
Liu bei fought very well in his revenge battle. Except one wrong move leads to his camp set on fire by his enemies. He then fall into illness and die.

Even if when i first played dynasty games Wu characters seemed cooler, when i reached this part of the story i was fully with Shu. They stuck to their ideals to bring peace and benevolence till the end. They devised strategies under Kongming sure, but there was no trickery like what Wu pulled off. I guess it took the combined efforts of Wei ,Wu, coward trickery and betrayal to slay the god of war Guan Yu. But this man was a boss till his last breath, true to his title.
