    I think this bike could dramatically elevate cycling experiences abroad...
    No more insane rental costs, no more downloading bike apps and creating profiles on international data, no more returning a sub par, single speed rental bike to a specific location at a specific time.
    With this it could be as simple as: leave airport, unfold, ride.
    I honestly can't wait!
    Thank you for this video and I'll be patiently waiting for the next one.

    it's very nice. I have an old dahon mu sl that I fitted out as a racer with used carbon bits and it weighs around 9kg and is really fast. I've been lusting after the helix but have read the weight went up to over 10kg. It will be interesting to see how fast people can fold and unfold them. For now I'm more happy with my dahon as it's lighter and cost around 500$ but it's really interesting to see folding bikes finally evolving further. I think the engineering tolerances for a product are making progress hard, I think for smaller lighter people prepared to be a bit careful folding bikes could get closer to 5-6kg and be perfectly usable.

    Thanks for the nice video!
    Now that you've been riding the Helix for some years: Are you still happy with it?
    I would expect the latch that ties together the axels of the two wheels and protects against unfolding to be the least fault-tolerant part of the bike. Does the latch still match exactly after some years? And more importantly: Are the hinges still tight, or are they worn out in some kind?

    I’m looking at this and trying to see the benefit over a montague. It’s certainly very well made and I’d love to know how that front fork feels when riding it. The rear wheel is genius, of course Brompton is similar but with much smaller wheel.

    To call this the greatest foldind bike is utterly ludicrous!
    To understand what constitutes a great folding bike, indeed the greatest folding bike, look no further than the design and engineering masterpiece that is the Brompton folding bicycle!
    These tiny wheeled marvels have in virtually standard form been toured and bike packed and bike rafted across the globe!

      As a Brompton owner, I can honestly say, my opinion of course, that the Helix is damn impressive too, I actually like the way the Helix folds better than the Brompton, if anything how it's easier to push around when folded. With my 6R Brompton, the rear luggage rack makes things a bit cumbersome. Now, if the Helix had a rack solution, it would be at the top. But until then, the Brompton edges it out slightly due to the carry-on bag/rack options, and of course smaller size. If Helix can reduced this down to a 16" wheel size...hot damn.

      @originvl.gvmers 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also would the size frame be comfortable for shorter people?

    • @realMDizzy
      @realMDizzy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I'm 5'7" with short legs and it fits me just fine plus there is some adjustability in the seat position. If anything I wish the handle bars were up higher because I'm an old man now but I may change that out myself. Build quality is TOP NOTCH. Bike is like 95% Titanium and is super light and ULTRA RIGID. There is absolutely NO FLEX at any of the joints whatsoever. I'll have video next week of my riding it. I actually shot some video this weekend and I was jumping over this rough patch off a dirt ramp and the bike had no give whatsoever. For the backer price of $1300 it cannot be bested. I don't know what the post backer price is but if it is under $2k it would still be a bargain. The only thing stopping Helix from just taking off is the absolute and offensive tardiness in getting the bikes made, assembled and delivered. It is like delay after delay after delay. I'm surprised I got one to be quite honest. Hopefully Peter is working on the efficiency of his project because it really is fantastic.

    • @originvl.gvmers
      @originvl.gvmers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MDizzy Yes I wanted to be a backer 3 years ago as well but I was really young with no money. Unfortunately the price spiked to $2200. Now that you have assured me the quality is very reliable, I still think it would be worth it, especially since it’s a regular wheel sized bike (downside to my 16” Brompton wheels). Looking forward to you uploading more videos on the helix bike!

    • @realMDizzy
      @realMDizzy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly compared to other titanium folders this thing is still worth $2200 IMO. Just the look and feel, the fit and finish screams PREMIUM. He may be taking forever and a day but when you receive the bike it is worth it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND placing an order though until he has shipped out hundreds of bikes though just to be sure you don't lose your money. That is the main issue right now is the speed of production and if it can be sped up.

      Because he started really well and then you realize that his hands grow out of his ass, he is not conversant with elementary mechanics; putting pedals first? Putting it together on the floor? elevate it on a workbench or a table so the camera does not look down - your video must be rehearsed. an instruction sheet is a good idea.

    • @Beng12952
      @Beng12952 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@borisfohrman3133I wasn’t aware it was necessary to enrol on an elementary mechanics course in order to unfold a bike to a satisfactory standard for the grandmaster armchair mechanics of TH-cam. How about you show everyone how conversant you are in using cognition before criticising someone who’s giving people a real world demonstration rather than a rehearsed, polished advert that would take all of 30 seconds? And while you’re at it, maybe visit a shrink if you’re seeing hands growing out of asses…

    • @realMDizzy
      @realMDizzy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because it is best and almost frictionless when you tilt it onto the front wheel when folded and roll it around that way. I guess technically you could roll it on both wheels but it adds a more resistance plus the crank arms could start to spin and they don't clear the ground very well.

    Thanks for sharing. After watched your video, I decided not to buy this troublesome folding system bike. Imaging folding it at crowded area or before boading the public transport (too much time and afford need to fold/unfold it). The saddle unable to adjust the angle and having the sharp part below the saddle is very dangerous (rider might get injured during a fall). Montague or FSIR Spin 5 have much easy & better folding system.

    • @Beng12952
      @Beng12952 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the hell are you talking about? The folding mechanism is barely any slower than a Brompton as you can see on other videos, he’s just going slow as he only just unboxed it. Also, how do you suggest someone could possibly injure themselves on the seatpost rail? It’s completely shielded by the saddle. This company has revolutionised the folding bike industry and you pluck things out of your ass to whine about…

    I've been riding this bike for about a month th-cam.com/users/postUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

    Too much mechanism for a simple machine. Youll be in trouble if the manufacturer wont supply any spare when the time you need one

  • @dqbeseventynine7452

    The design gave to much attention of how compact it is when folded and didn't consider how it looks when unfolded. If Brompton would make a 406 or 451 would be nice best foldability and long cruising.

      It's not that bad, I can fold it in 20 seconds and unfold it and be riding in 17 seconds. The hardest thing about this bike is the wait time as there has only been about 300 made. They are much delayed.

  • @omnitunes69

    worlds best folding bike? not a chance, Montague Paratrooper holds that title. That frame looks thin and weak, the design and features unimpressive

    • @Beng12952
      @Beng12952 ปีที่แล้ว

      You seem to believe that you’re able to measure wall thicknesses of a bike frame from a computer screen, without sawing it apart and using callipers. This frame is as strong as your delusion, so you’re safe.

    The practicality of a high quality folding bike with the unpracticality of not having room for mudguards and a rack. So, how come is it the world's best folding bike (as advertised)? The bar is still above that...But thanks for the video!
