There were obviously no recordings then, and the English public was completely unaware. P.S.: The staging of this aria is also similar to "Myself I shall adore" from "Semele".

Parts of this aria bears a strong resemblance to Handel's "Va col canto lusingando" from Clori, Tirsi, e Fileno. He definitely recycled some material.
Handel did that a lot. To be fair, he had some deadlines to meet and was an extremely busy composer. Many Baroque composers were.
