he did but the series was pretty much based on historical events taking off some of the unrealistic parts and the girl and the oni i mean, historically okita didn't die that way though he died in the room he was in, in edo of his tuburculosis :) i looked up every character in the series on the web after i saw it was a historical show based on real people and events.
