- One of the true pleasures of WolfQuest game development is learning about wolf ecology directly from some of the top experts in the world. We’re honored to have Dave Mech, Dan Stahler, Dan MacNulty, and Lori Schmidt as our advisers. Fairly recently, Tom Gable, who is project lead at the Voyageurs Wolf Project, agreed to be an advisor as well - which means we can send him random questions about wolves and he’ll tell us what he knows.
Such an occasion arose last week when we wanted to know what kind of vocalization an adult wolf would make to call their pups to come out of the den. Turns out there is such a thing: a squeaky-whimper, identified by wolf researcher John Fentriss in 1967. Even better, Voyageur Wolf Project’s trail cams captured video of wolves making this sound, and Tom gave us permission to use that audio in the game. So we’ve added a new emote, “Squeak,” which you can use to tell your pups to come out of the den.
We’re making great progress on Slough Creek on many other fronts as well. We don’t have a release date, but it’s getting closer!

WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in both maps. Slough Creek is in development! The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!

Pride Rock was the favorite, but yes development and path finding is complicated so no need to be sorry WolfQuest! The new squeak is so cool, and the pup cam I absolutely love. The game is so close to being ready, but then again it takes time to get everything gamer ready. Take your time WolfQuest Team! And as always, Keep up the good work!

It is amazing that instead of useing the bark to tell the pups to come out the den, he took the extra time to research and I swear I learn something new about wolves every time I watch the dev videos. So appreciate the extra research going into the game... if only more game makers can have this much passion and effort. Love you guys and keep up the incredible work❤️
And yea it ok if Priderock not there. I’m just beginning to understands basic game making myself so I understand that it was tricky.
Suggestion: perhaps there could be an option to mark the rendezvous sites temporarily with the added risk of predators being able to track the pups as well as your self. Idk just think8ng on the whimp here

This is SO SO SO Good!!! I love how your able to find these resources from scientists and other wolf projectors and bring it into your game. I love how close this community is and how proud I am to be a part of it. I know I havent been commenting on your videos lately, but that doesnt mean I dont watch them! I even see what other people comment and I gota say they really take the words out of my mouth before I'm able to post it myself. Just keep doing what your teams already been doing :D
Edit: I forgot to say in the previous video poll, how I would've put my vote for Obelisk because it reminds me of one of the pillars/beacons from those Stonehenge's. It would've been like a nice backstory in Yellowstone for wolves to pass on to their pups as did their grandparents and so on how this rock is a symbolic mark for all wolves to deliver their pups to a secure and finer life.

Cool, I really think that having the same shaped rocks on the rendzevous sites just wasn't really naturalistic. I think that being really, EXTREMELY realistic is a sign of WolfQuest, as it's the most realistic animal game I saw.

Oh man. That pup cam made me imagine a feature for the faaaar future. It would be an amazing feature if you could actually play as a pup if your main wolf had sadly died. Not sure how that would work though.
In the future, are we going to be able to let our pups eventually grow older, and form a bigger pack? It would be a DREAM to watch my pride and joy grow up, and then go out hunting as a family!
I can't imagine what kind of AI programming challenge that would be, though.

The obelisk is more apparent anyhow. The squeak vocalization really makes the game all the more educational, which I certainly love.

Can I just say that I love how you've been getting actual scientists and whatnot to help you out with this game just to get everything right? The research and everything is amazing and more than I usually expect for a game like this, but ya'll seem to be trying really hard (In a good way I mean xwx) to make WQ truly a wolf simulation experience.
I may have grown away from my wolfaboo phase but I love playing a good animal life simulator. Hopefully Slough Creek comes soon enough so that I can relive it all again in its upgraded form!
I understand how hard it is to figure out pathfinding for things in a game. Even though pride rock won't be added, I still love this game and how everything looks.
I’m in Minnesota and I had no idea there were wolf organizations and studies happening on wolves here! I’ll go check that out (Why I didn’t know I don’t know)
The International Wolf Center in Ely is good resource, plus they should hopefully have new pups in the spring

I may be a bit disappointed in not being able to see Pride Rock in the game... but it all looks amazing and can't wait until Slough Creek is released. With that being said, no need to worry about not adding Pride Rock. The other two options look amazing, and I have no doubt that it will make the game better. These past few years have been spent on making the game more realistic and enjoyable for many people, so you shouldn't worry about not getting the rock in the game that people wanted. All we care about is if the game turns out amazing. Keep making progress WolfQuest team, it's amazing!

IF you guys get to tower fall,will we start off with the summer den that we chose or will it be at a random place, I know its a bit early to ask this but I just wanted to know
Wolves typically only have a den site in late winter/early spring when the pups are little otherwise they are pretty nomadic so I’d say 50/50 on weather we get den sites or not

i got wolf quest anniversary 3 days ago and i already have 2 male wolves that are ready to have pups with their mates, so i am very exited.
WolfQuest, you did videos for three pup predators so far: eagle, cougar, and bear. Can you please do a video for the stranger wolves or coyotes next? I'm really curious!

They (unfortunately) do not give out release dates or release estimates they tried to 3 years ago when they first started working on the update but kept repeatedly missing the dates so they just stopped doing them to avoid disappointing us
@@wolfspirit7239 ah, now that I think about it , your absolutely right. Well either way I'm glad they're taking their time because currently the game is stunning . I do know that the team is working well , especially while this entire pandemic is going on. I know he did say "in the near future" Hopefully that future comes soon, I'm so excited for this.

Hello WolfQuest, I have a suggestion for *both* games. You should be able to recruit some dispersals in amythest mountain, it would be nice to have a pack. They would help hunt, protect pups, and be overall like your mate. If you read this, thank you!
In real life, it is pretty rare for non-family dispersals to join a pack (unless one of the breeding pair dies and even then it can be tricky). For now, we are sticking to the storyline about your family pack of you, your mate, and your pups. Maybe someday we can add ways to grow your pack.

Idea for cattle ranch (if you're adding it to anniversary edition) : add a bull pen with more calves and if u get too close to the bull, he'd attack and call out to the rest of the calves to run and make the farmer come and shoot at you
