I have a few questions about the elk herds. 1) How many adult bulls are in the herd? 2) If there is only one bull elk, which happens to get killed by the player, how will the herd react? Will a new bull claim the herd? Will the numbers slowly decline?
Generally there is only one grown bull in a harem herd (and some younger spikes). But there are other bulls around wanting to take his place (especially during the rut in the fall). So yes, if you kill the bull in the herd, another bull would take his place. That’s what those bachelor bulls are hoping for - a wolf to come along and kill the resident bull. Herd numbers might decline as you hunt them but then other elk would move in eventually. We will have to fine tune how this works and are building in some deterrents to the mass slaughter that is possible in the current game.
Personally, I think some of the bigger animals like Moose and Grizzly Bears, or the less common solitary animals like cougars, should be persistent animals too because in real life there wouldn't be an infinite number of those big animals in an area, unless more of those animals moved into that area when one dies. (Of course, I'm no expert on animal distribution, so all these statements are based upon info gathered through quick research.) Other than that, it looks like this new spawning system will be a big step up for WolfQuest. Though this raises a few questions. Will animals in the game world be able to interact with one another? Example: A wolf pack pursuing an elk, or a cougar hunting a deer. If so, if NPC wolf packs will prey upon elk herds in the game world, would that change the elk herds' composition? Even if it wouldn't, would elk herds still naturally change in numbers over time due to deaths by natural causes and animal migration patterns? Overall, this new spawning system is definitely a step up from the one in the current version, where animals just appear and disappear at random. I'm glad that so much work is being put into these smaller aspects of the game. Small details may not seem like much, but they definitely improve the game's overall quality.
I did have one interesting encounter with a stranger wolf near a grizzly beat before. There was a elk carcass next to the wolf where it spawned and a grizzly came by and attacked the wolf killing it
I do not think having a lot of persistent animals will be a good idea performance wise. However, you could have them spawn quite some distance away and/or behind the player's camera so it appears as if they are persistent, even though they're not.
Every time I watch these I just get blown away by the amount of depth, time, and attention to detail being put in this game. These episodes are really the highlight of my entire week! Can’t wait!!! It’s going to be hard resisting the urge to take down those Bro Elk

Wow! I am continuously astounded by the quality of these videos and how well everyone works together to create such an awesome game. I've been a longtime fan but your team gives us more than just a game, it's an experience that, with the help of these videos, not only teaches us about wildlife but about the game making process as well. It is super interesting to see how you handle all of the many problems that arise and I have nothing but respect for everyone who has worked on this game. I can't wait to see more videos that make me smile and ultimately see what comes out of all this hard work. Love from a fan all the way from New Zealand :)
Man I can’t wait for this! I wa splaying today with some friends and we were so excited about all the new things to come! For real though, Yoir the only game company I know that really cares this much about accuracy and the players! That’s a great thing and it’s exactly why I love WolfQuest 🐺🐺🐺🐺❤️❤️❤️❤️
These videos keep making me more and more excited for Anniversary Edition to come out! Keep up the good work, guys! Makes an old-time player really happy to see a favorite game of mine getting a revamp.
yes long videos!!! I love how you guys show us the actual way how you guys make the maps fix the details and show us the process of making this game its all very interesting to learn!
You guys are absolutely amazing! So excited for the release of this! You guys are the most hard working developers and I'm so excited to see the finished product! So excited, and grateful for what you do! Love you guys!
I think the other animals should interact more, like a bull elk fight or a cow elk running from a stubborn bull (sometimes they get angry if the female won't mate), even a younger bull getting mad at another for no reason, maybe even the older bull breaking them up etc?
Awesome work, team! you guys are making harder and harder to keep calm while waiting! I’m so excited for when we’ll be able to play! keep up with the amazing updates 🖤
Haha the end is awesome :D I‘d certainly like the world to be a bit more full than to empty because I feel like 2.7 was way to empty, especially Amethyst mountain and with a bigger map we will have to travel even bigger distances so more things to see would certainly be good though I agree of course not tripping over them :)
Oh my god, that yelp sound at the end was a bit too realistic for my puppy's liking 😂 She was sleeping under my computer chair, but when the wolf yelped she jumped up and ran to the edge of my desk to stare at my door like "What the heck was that?!"
It would be really cool if we could come across an elk or prey half buried but with little scent markers. If I recall correctly, cougars try to mask their left overs by burying them.
Yet another amazing video!! Keep up the amazing work wolf quest is looking beautiful! And i wanted to thank you for liking and relying to most of my comments. Just thank you so much im so excited for this beautiful game!♥️
Lol the ending was funny and I love how you go through and explane a bit on how your programming everything and how things work I don't understand all of it because I know next to nothing about that stuff but I still find it facanating X3
Hi WolfQuest! Everything is so amazing and I can’t wait to get a new computer this Christmas so I can download this game and get the early release part! Keep up the good work💖💖
I think the spawning should be slightly more denser than real life. I still want it to be exciting when I finally find food. In real life, wolves only need a full meal I think 2 or 3 times a week? Crunch that into a game day/night cycle (15/15 mins?) So once every hour may seem really boring for hunting. I guess it depends on how well Wolves noses work in the game. Lower the spawn rate but increase the distance we can see the scents would be cool. Side note, I love the different types of wildlife now! Seeing spikes and calves make the game so much more realistic! Im gonna have to dump red dead redemption 2 in the trash when this game comes out!
AMAZING PROGRESS! You definitely deserve more subs, and more players! You guys have blown my mind! I can’t contain myself for the update! I wish you guys would make a Lion game, of course, that probably won’t happen but you never know.
I realize that this was not the intent and you plan on putting the floating scents back into scent view, but I kind of liked seeing them in the normal view. It made the scene appear more dynamic, and while this will make the game programming longer I was wondering if there might be a way to have scent spores in normal view? Maybe less of them in the normal view, so if you happen to spot a scent spore in normal view, you switch to scent view as an idea of your wolf focusing on the scent and in scent view you see all the scent spores the way you normally would. Just a random idea, still really love all of this work you guys put in and cannot wait to see more. Thank you so much!
Hey WolfQuest! I have a cool idea for a separate game. It could be about Lost River and it's lore! I know that this has a low chance of being seen but still, you (the wolf) could have a quest to find out how the people of the town evacuated. You could get a mate, speak to other animals like... *You've seen Floppy from the facility* Floppy: Hey there! I'm Floppy, you may know my from my rumors, If you're just stopping by, get comfy. If you're here to ask me something..Well.. You: Yes, I need to ask you something. (Or) *look around* (If you asked floppy..) You: Do you remember when the humans were here? Floppy: Yes, yes I do. I was a calf when the started testing on me. It seemed weird. I can't remember what they did to me, Now I'm like a newspaper floating in the wind... *mk here's a idea for the ending and also, the thing is radiation* 1. Good ending, this is if you have a mate. You've realised that the "thing" that made the humans leave is starting to sting at you. You tell *mate's name* that we should leave. They agree, sensing the "thing". You head for the exit of the town, wondering if all the animals would be ok. The "thing" is getting closer! You run with your mate out the tunnel, you look back a last time and silently say Good bye to the animals a last time. After you and your mate escape, it could show a cutscene of them in Yellowstoen, Slough Creek, both of them sitting at a den, with 3 pups playing. 2. Bad ending, with mate. You sense the thing, you tell *mate's name* that we should leave, they agree. You both head for the exit, you look back and whisper goodbye to the animals. The thing us getting closer! You both run and fall over, your mate is in pain and you hurt your leg, you have a choice, either save your mate or escape. If you save your mate, same ending as 1. If you leave your mate, they die but you escape, full of grief, you walk out of the tunnel, a slow sad music plays and it rains. 3. Neutral ending, alone. You sense the "thing", you want to help the other animals but realise, they lived with this, you have a choice, either stay or leave. If you stay, you'll be sightly ill for some time but live. If you leave, you find your way to Yellowstone and become a lone wolf, it will show a cutscene of your wolf, but older, curled up in under a lovely pine tree, your breathing gently slows down and you drift away to the stars. Same for Lost River, except it's you on top of the hill, overlooking your home you've known for you're life.
Wow this made me tremble! It's beyond amazing, and you can only go so far with a simulation game of an animals life, but you went beyond. I'm very excited for this game to be released. By the way, are you gonna see eagles more often, and are they gonna attack you? ( sometimes in the old game, the eagle would screech but it never ended up attacking you? ) Are you gonna make it where when you finish eating an elk, it will decay and become bones?
Thanks! Keep in mind, WolfQuest 3 will be a free update to players who own WolfQuest 2.7. If you are buying WQ 3 for the first time, the cost will likely be more than than the current game 2.7 (so it's cheaper to purchase it now and get WQ 3 as a free update).
You guys never cease to please with this game. I'm so excited for it! But, if I could make one possible suggestion, what if you guys could add coyotes hunting! Like, you could come across a herd of elk _(or just a lone elk or a calf)_ , who may be running from or get scared by a random coyote that inflicts damage on a/the random elk _(coyotes in the wild have been recorded attacking and killing deer, after all)_ , which the player can take advantage of because it makes a hunt a bit easier. But the coyote may run off if you get too close, and once you kill the elk, the coyote goes into that AI mode you guys have given where it stays by and bites you now and again.
Coyotes will harass wolves (nip and run) if they think they have the advantage of numbers. A coyote will flee if they think the wolf is a threat (rather than fight them). As for seeing coyotes hunting and such...we hope to add more ambient NPC behaviors like that (someday).
WolfQuest You are correct! You're doing some very fine work with this game, and I'm curious about what you have next in store for us! But if adding hunting coyotes is harder to work with than expected, that's perfectly ok. You guys just keep up the great work! :)
I can't wait till' WolfQuest 3 comes out! I think the actual game is really good, no matter the graphics! And wolves are my favourite animal! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺

I have a few questions about the elk herds.
1) How many adult bulls are in the herd?
2) If there is only one bull elk, which happens to get killed by the player, how will the herd react? Will a new bull claim the herd? Will the numbers slowly decline?

WolfDJ2020 Plus Pets I know that there is only one bull per herd, but the other one is a really good question!
WolfDJ2020 Plus Pets there’s usually 1 bull elk in a heron of females, usually
Maybe they keep running, the whole herd won't die for their dead bull
WolfQuest another question, will the younger bulls, or bulls that still have velvet or no antlers be easier to kill?
Personally, I think some of the bigger animals like Moose and Grizzly Bears, or the less common solitary animals like cougars, should be persistent animals too because in real life there wouldn't be an infinite number of those big animals in an area, unless more of those animals moved into that area when one dies. We definitely want to keep adding more behaviors for the NPCs. We have prioritized the ones they do when you (the wolf) is present.
(Reads paragraph) oh there’s more (clicks read more) OH GOD NVM
This is a good point. Since it might not even be possible to kill bears in the game it makes sense for them to be persistent animals.
I did have one interesting encounter with a stranger wolf near a grizzly beat before. There was a elk carcass next to the wolf where it spawned and a grizzly came by and attacked the wolf killing it

Thanks! Keep in mind, WolfQuest 3 will be a free update to players who own WolfQuest 2.7. If you are buying WQ 3 for the first time, the cost will likely be more than than the current game 2.7 (so it's cheaper to purchase it now and get WQ 3 as a free update).
My bday was yesterday :) I love these vids
Happy bday, one day late.
This game is comming along so well great job
NOW THAT.... is how you end a video
That ending 😂
8:53 for some reason that was so sad :c
Ha
What are the chances, had a lecture on predator-prey relationships and prey density today. 🤣🤣👍🏾. Love that cliffhanger .
Finally I'm early ! Great vid!!!! This game is coming along great!!!!
Oh my gosh, Bull Elk Herds?? Challenge accepted!
In the warmer months, will there possibly be more calves in a herd than the colder months?
There are always more calves born each spring than survive to winter. So, yes.
This game is gonna be so beautiful and realistic!
