@@jdoe9987 Very interesting. Though, this is not an unusual pace for a monolithic government like Kenya. Teacher pay rise took 20 years. Highway construction into the counties took about the same time as Konza. Doc & nurses? Don't even go there

@@jymietv655 You have to understand the role of govt is to spend taxes. It is a loss making venture defined by politics. By investing in lossful infrastructure, it attracts investment (or facilities in this case) by taking the risk from the true investore. For ex., if Apple finds KE cost-effective for their ops and wants for move here, they will build their own offices / rent and build their core business infrastructure. What they won't do is build a water line all the way to Nairobi water. Because it is a loss making venture for them. But they expect water in their fancy corporate kitchens at Konza. It it the work of the state to do this. Thats why Konza has govt funding. Coz investors are only willing to go sofar. Will you want to work in a place where there are no basics like water, elec and food?

    3. Why are we attracting foreign investors instead of empowering local Kenyans?
    4. I heard him say that they have accommodation for foreign workers on site. Who was imported to do construction work?
    5. In Korea its about making it easy to live in the smart city. Konza seems like we are making it an expensive place to live.
    6. We are building a city near other towns yet we could upgrade a town into a smart city.
    7. Shouldn't we also allow people to construct their buildings according to master plan at the same time as Govt ones to realise the goal in time?

All you Kenyans disliking and trash talking are myopic thinkers. I am a software engineer and I think Konza City is the wisest decision a state can make. I do agree wameloot from this project na kuibackbench for long but its inevitable. This is where the next gen of engineers and thinkers begin. In the next 30 years, your 5 year old child now will develop tech solutions in Konza you can't even imagine now. Tools to enhance national security, fight corruption systemically e.t.c Or maybe tools to keep a rogue state in power, rig elections, spread state propaganda or vandalize tech infrastructure. Either way, tech is the only viable future for humans and this project deserves more support.

@@niknik4260 This is the sort of mindset we need to move away from as Kenyans. Tech cities are not meant to help you personally. They are long-term projects to promote product creation and innovation and hopefully, expand the economy. Bigger economy means more taxes and diplomatic influence for the govt. Google and Silicon Valley were directly funded by grants from NSA and CIA (thru proxies, of course) in its early stages. Now it is a giant. The popularity of Google (an american company) has increased American govt's influence around the globe. American govt still funds private tech sector well. So are Russians, Koreans, Chinese and Eurozone. Why shouldn't we?
