I have pressed my patterns for years to fit them into the envelope. You are the first person I’ve seen demonstrate it. Thanks for your good ideas to set up a sewing room.
I refold m pattern pieces each the size of the envelope with the pattern number & piece designation on top. put them in the envelope in number or letter order, so when you make that pattern again, you just need to take out the pieces you need. saves so much time & effort.
How timely is this video!! I inherited my mother's sewing machines and decades of fabric, patterns, notions, etc. And thread! Oh, the thread! I even found some of my grandmother's things. I've been sewing for 50+ years, so you can imagine what a task I'm facing. You've given me some good ideas to get started. Thanks bunches!!
Wonderfull video. Great ideas. Thankyou for sharing . I am sure that everyone that see your video will learn something from you. I learnes a lot. TX/PR
I finally got my dream sewing and cutting table, the Flexispot E7, it adjusts in length to take from a 120cm up to a 200cm wide table top, from 60cm to 80cm deep. I reused an 80cm x 160cm Ikea desktop for my desk. But the best part is that it adjusts in height from as low as 58cm up to 123cm high, so I have a height set for my sewing machine, another for my serger and another for a cutting table. Also it can be adjusted to an ideal height for children. You can add castors if you need to move the table. I added a magnetic whiteboard on top (90cm x 180cm) covered by my cutting mat, allows me to use skittle magnets as pins. I use the sewing machine and serger with extension tables. Quick tip if you want to extend these extension tables, get some timber board, cut to size and attach adjustable height kitchen cabinet legs. The legs fit into sockets so can be removed for storage. You can paint the board with gloss paint for a smooth surface, or cover with vinyl.
Janet, LOVE your jacket! I love your sewing studio too - I am working out of a small space. I try to be organised but even though I try to place the things I often use at the front, I end up dragging out the things I need from behind other stuff and it's a pain!
Yes, the iron is hot, not the hottest setting but still hot. The paper holds up just fine under the heat. Pattern tissues are folded and heated when first packaged at the factory. Happy Sewing!!
@@IslanderSewingSystems Thank you Janet. I love watching your videos. You are such a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for sharing your expertise with the community! You are awesome!

Hi Helen, If you are speaking of the hanging hooks, you can purchase them on our website: www.islandersewing.com The tagboard itself can be purchased in large sheets on Amazon.
Thank you for your comment. Yes, pinking shears are a wonderful tool that I never use. I teach home sewers how to sew better and faster using the techniques employed in better garment factories. Pinking shears are not used in factories. Happy Sewing!! Janet
@@IslanderSewingSystems I did not know that. Thank you for telling us. Now I have to look this up to see a different way that doesn't use pinking shears.

Hi Janet, Thank you so much, the jacket is one of my most popular patterns: Jacket Express and this pattern is taught in great detail on Craftsy.com.
This is such a timely video for me!! What brand is your press, Janet??
Reliable
(Linda) Love this video! Can you tell me is the Silk Organza to use for ironing..is it 100% silk or is it polyester or s-else? Thank. you
It needs to be 100% silk organza. We carry the less expensive grade that is best used for things like underlining and pressing cloths.
Happy Sewing!!
@@IslanderSewingSystems i will check it out on your site -thank you !☺️
Hi Janet, when you were pressing the pattern pieces to go back into the original packaging, was the iron actually "hot" or was it cold?
Yes, the iron is hot, not the hottest setting but still hot. The paper holds up just fine under the heat. Pattern tissues are folded and heated when first packaged at the factory. Happy Sewing!!
