This explains só much. I was wondering why people in American series/movies always got A's and A+ or even A++ whereas a 10 was very rare in my class.

Very nice movie. What I miss is that most foreign students don't mix with the dutch students. They seam to live in totally seperated groups. They meet only on a few occasions, at sports for example. Big reason for this is the different timemanagement styles, I think.

I'm Russian living in the Netherlands for 3 years. My weird things:
    1. They criticize my character and my personal life. I'm lonely, don't have real friends and never had a partner. For me it's OK, but they hate me. "Tolerant" Dutch people call me direct "asociaal" (asocial).
    2. Their climate policy. Such as in other European countries they're going crazy about the climate change. They deliberately asked me about my private life (it's not polite in my culture). I was even criticized for taking a shower for 15 minutes (I always need 15 minutes for being absolutely clean and relaxed or 10 minutes with stress). Their radical climate activists try to make everyone to do that within 5 minutes.
    3. If they know, that I'm a Russian citizen, they deliberately try to talk about politics and about national conflicts, for example, about MH-17 air disaster. I hate it, and I always try to stop those conversations.
    4. They're too direct. If Dutch people don't like you, they always try to send you back. "You don't have relatives and friends here. Go back! Go away!"
    5. They drink alcohol and smoke MORE than Russian people. It's really so. For them it's normal to drink many times a week and smoke on the streets. It's not prohibit to advertise alcohol here. In Russia you're not allowed to drink in public places and smoke on the main streets, and advertisements of alcohol and tobacco are prohibited. The Russian government tries to stop the alcohol and tobacco consumption. And in Russia nobody is allowed to use drugs. I personally don't drink alcohol, don't smoke and don't use drugs.
P.S. After getting my diploma (I still need to study for about 2,5 years) I'm going to move.

I'm sorry for your bad experience in the Netherlands. You ended up in social circles that do not care very much for foreigners or just plain hate them. Most of the Dutch people don't have any problems with foreigners, as long as the foreigners at least make an effort to adjust to our culture to a certain degree. Perhaps you'd be better off if you socialised with people who are more open and welcoming to foreigners. You write that you need to be here for another 2,5 years, so it's well worth the effort to meet people who will accept you as you are.

Actually, there is more choice of foods in the Netherlands than in any other country. You almost certainly can get those spices, but you have to know where to go and look.

Have heard about a continent named Asia?😂
Buddy please get out of mindset that West is world and everything is about west. If i don't consider France and Italy then europe has no food culture at all. Like all u guys use is a handful of spices and herbs. Asia has tons of them. Please wake up 😉

Nah man, sarcasm and taking the micky out of someone is best with a straight face. A few seconds of shock or hesitation is enough. Then you can smile or wink. Lol
And yeah, bike lanes are sacred.
Lastly: you bring your own spices? I think in this nation just about any culture's food is available so I can't imagine you won't be able to find the spices you want. Just ask around if necessary, perhaps in restaurants.

If one country knows about spices it's the Dutch .... Once it were our most important import-export products !!

Doesn't take away the fact that any Amsterdam based university falls under the very same Dutch educational system like any other Dutch university does.

The Netherlands belong to the 5 most happy countries and the 3 most free cultures in the world. If somebody has problems with being happy and free, he better see a psychiatrist. I don't understand the problems of all these students from nations where people are suppressed by their governments.

The reason Dutch students don't mix with foreign students is just the language. I like to work in English. No problem. But privately, I want to use Dutch. Sorry, in this country it still is the official language. I would have great difficulty expressing myself in English on an emotional level. My English is simply not good enough for that. So, if you want to mingle, learn Dutch first. Preferably before you come here. Personally I have my doubts that half of the students at Dutch universities is foreign. Even though they pay 20.000 Euro a year (for non Eu residents), it is still a small fraction of the cost. I would say, let them pay 100.000-250.000 a year, which is the cost, and then they are welcome. I don't see why the Dutch tax payer has to pay half of what goes to higher education to educate the world. That being said, I would be in favor of making all higher education in the world UN funded. Then, I have no problems at all anymore with foreign students.

Hey Ronald, you are spouting non-sense. Paying 20K in tuition fees would not be a burden to the Dutch taxpayers at all because the actual cost is lower than that. You want foreign students out of the country? Fine, but don't use lies.

@@pakbeteve3445 FYI, I am not against foreign students. They are good for the economy and for European integration. The amounts of money were given to me a long time ago by my faculty leader at the university of Amsterdam (social science faculty).
