    In the UK there is a caviar producer who dont need to cut into the sturgeon. Means the fish can produce more eggs another year. It is massaged out instead. The fish isn't harmed at all.

    • @ThisIsAquaculture
      @ThisIsAquaculture 3 ปีที่แล้ว +119

      The fish is injected with hormones to remove the eggs. Also the fish is also used for meat. Most sturgeon produce eggs every other year so it takes alot of money (energy, labor and feed) to raise them another two years so economics go into that consideration.

      I agree. Don't harm them, just extract the product. Would you kill an elephant just for it's tusks?

      @@kaylaluther2805 I wouldn't do that even. I might not be a vegetarian but I do respect the life the animal has, and we have a responsibility to give livestock the best care possible. And the need to not waste what it could provide. It is a waste to kill a creature then discard the carcass. This way the animal lives, it isnt harmed and it can help replenish in repopulate wildlife populations and not just for caviar.

      I'm Hebrew and Native American. Waste not, want not. God tells us to respect and care for all his gifts. We are his sheperds. I agree 100%. They will continue to harvest pregnant females for rich folks delight. Quite morbid. I wish we could live in a world these things didn't happen. The truth is, it will always happen if we don't spread some awareness.

      Movie theater popcorn is expensive because Disney keeps most of the profits from their movies. So that's how theaters stay in business, so people like you can the latest stupid marvel movie, and do fortnite dances in the theater. If disney stopped being so greedy, movie theater popcorn wouldn't cost so much.

    Here in our region (northwestern Arkansas, USA) Paddlefish are taken out of our lakes by fishermen for the caviar during the spawning season when the fish is easy to take from the shallows. The fish's gutted bodies are often found floating in the water afterwards. Paddlefish caviar is said to be comparable to sturgeon.

      @@popcorn9509 Most people don't realize that sturgeon has to be aged like beef. Many people don't like it for that reason and they try to eat it too soon as if it was like a salmon or trout. It is a very dense meat like eating a tuna steak. Sturgeon don't have bones so the fillet is also very different from bony fish. But to answer your question it is excellent and very good smoked, grilled, pan fried or broiled! If your in the US you can actually order smoked white sturgeon at Costco online.

      @tbf390 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s expensive because it takes around 8 years for a fish to reach maturity and produce eggs of a desired quality. Feeding them for that long adds up quite a bit, processing takes a ton of permits, it’s one of the most regulated foods on the planet, and on top of that it takes a highly trained group of people to produce it and produce it well.
