India not only has IITs but a reasonably good university education system and good feeder system to the universities in the form of good secondary education in high schools (private and govt run schools). India still has a long way to go.
I cannot disagree more. I am from IITD and after spending 20 years in the US tech industry I've realized that that hype about IITs is only due to its selective nature, which is purely a demand supply play due to India's huge population and the pathetic nature of other Indian universities. Secondary education in India has nothing to be proud of, except perhaps a few elitist schools, which might be where the previous commentor comes from. Elitism is a civilizational issue in India, which will guarantee that it will never have the kind of scalable development that's needed to compete in future. What makes US and China so powerful is that they took quality education to the last student in the village, not just create a few elite institutions for a handful people and keep bloating in pride.
India's IITs and University system is pretty much the worst in terms of global rankings. They are a lot better than Pakistan but that's a very low bar.
@@noirdezzir8424 You won my heart brother , this is a sensible ,rational and brilliant brain speaking who hit the nail absolutely on its head. Pakistan should have a good secondary education, good university system and other centers of excellence. I feel bad for some brilliant students who are in Pakistan with no opportunities. Pakistan never had a good government since it's creation and never invested in education and other reforms etc.
I am not sure why Elon Musk gets a bad rap in this discussion. His contributions towards clean energy, whether it be electric cars or solar energy products are nothing short of revolutionary, especially in the sense that electric cars like the Model3 are now mainstream and products like the power wall / solar roof are at the cutting edge of innovation. SpaceX, also, is in many ways a trailblazer in terms of both reducing the cost of space launches and improving capabilities. I think this will benefit humanity ultimately on an immense scale. Having seen many interviews of Elon Musk and hearing him speak I don’t get the impression that he is a capitalist (like say Rockefeller was) at all. He comes across as a person that wants to build world class products that benefit humans on a mass scale. His wealth is a byproduct of his success and helps fund his passions.

Dear Dr Pervez Sir, I would say that why dont we do a program strongly suggesting our Prime Minister + COAS to go and meet Mr Modi Jie and start normalizing ties with India..... we shall declare India is NOT enemy to Pakistan nor Pakistan will allow its soil to destabilize India *same demand we are doing to Taliban govt that they shall not allow their soil to use destabilize PK).... by this stance we can open the Doors and ask for the SubContractor works from Indian's IT and lets the door open for IT Software Exports from Pakistan to India under subcon agreement for 5-years.

@@jang-e-bahadur Yes you are right. I should have respected Indian Muslims' sentiments. I'm sure they've invented a sect where education is haraam. But my comment was targeted at Pakistani Muslims.

I've been based in Silicon Valley for the past 23 years. The questions were great, but I apologize that the presentation/conversation did not effectively draw a picture for the type of audience present. It could have been more finely tuned to the young audience.
Question asked at @1:10 summarizes Pakistan mindset that there is no win-win theory for example if Pakistan trades with India. Pakistan benefits the cheaper prize and India also benefits for accessing the market across the border. However when apply loose-loose theory people selling weapons to both country wins which is 500 old theory
This guy is Brilliant 👏👏
I have complaint against the black hole. I have saved the video on John Eliya uploaded recently to Watch later. But i cant find it now. I just seen a small cut of it. It was great conversation. Please reload it again. Is Black Hole is threatened due to that program???. Please upload it again or inform about its where about and reasons to delete it. If there is security problem, can you please provide link privately.
Thank you
Great discussion
No God. No religion. This is TRUTH 👍🌅💗
Agree, mostly PhDs in Aussies and Kiwis unis I see are Indian, Chinese, Iranian, Pakistanis, and others. very very few are local students. its a global problem.
Most of chairs are empty. This type of discussion was part of Indian forums/ discussion before twenty years back.
Now new subject discussion may for upgrading current situation of narrative thinking.
Indians always in win win situation, as Indian people are more adjustable, reliable, faithful, hardworker....., and so on .
We are having more technical discussion on our shows like shark tank.
Your agenda is perfect. Black whole. We educated the whole world through Takshila. Now we are looking after Chinna etc. forgetting our past because we deviated from our past beliefs including you and I
Pupils in Pakistan are supposed to learn the Koran by heart to pass exams as per previous The Black Hole videos. Isn’t that the fundamental problem of education there???
wtf.. there are few shorts and 2 big chapters of the quran..
basically only to translate the arabic into urdu.
I think western philosophy should be taught instead..
even if Pakistan changes curriculum you would not find much skillful people of philosophy and other subjects who have a critical understanding.
Bro look at the number of people for this speaker you will know their priorities. This country will never ever be modern in terms of education and science.
R u sure?? even in field of science and commerce????

Imagine if all Pakistani children had made available to them the good quality education that both Faruk Ahmad and Pervez Hoodbhoy received at Karachi Grammar School!
Speaker mentioned about community helping each other, it happens only when there is trust between people... problem solving requires building teams & people working together... fractured societies don’t do well... also trust in governments is important... governments can’t change laws at will... firing people is ok when there some alternate social security... rich countries do it & hence are developed countries...
Pakistan has not even signed up for PCT and how would world invest in Pakistan without IP
@7:30 when he mentioned about divers religion (Jews,Hindus) cameraman focused on a girl seems to be HIndu (bindi on forehead) good job

It wud have been symbolically better if the letters of "Silicon Valley" had started big and gradually become smaller n then start become bigger again, signifying a valley ...
16 minutes and the guy is still talking about his accomplishments.... and not letting Dr Hoodbhoy ask questions
Great discussion ! Disappointed at poor attendance. I feel sorry for Pfof Pervez, wasted talent in Pakistan
On top of investing in startups, why don’t you do some investment in basic and higher education? That would be better for your legacy.
I am saying this because India is proven 5th largest economy and the export of software is aggressive... so if we take this stand to ask our neighbor for HELP definitely they would not refuse.
It is very wiseful discussion but presence of learners in class is disappointing.
Man is part of brain chain .good good.
why there are not many people in the room??

All said and then looking at the audience I am not too sure they even understand English apart from a few

Of all the people Dr sb thinks in black and white. 😊Twitter is more of a political issue rather than technical.
Barring some American accent, it's a shallow discussion, nothing much to take home, for me! 😩
he's talking about the Silicon Valley, about IT & he doesn't want to mention or acknowledge India's contribution so, we know it's not going to be worth much.
Everything is in technology.... Which people in Pak did never realise....
Answer to the young man’s question… money, greed etc for most of the time.
Awesome 👍👍
I hardly see any comments from Pakistanis as mostly they r interested in Islamic religious discourse .
Pervez sir want to skip the Indian greatness and popularity in education
he would have touted all the great mullas
He hates Hinduism and thinks it is lowly compared to islam
From the comment section, it is pretty much clear that almost all subscribers and frequent viewers are INDIANS 🇮🇳. I am Pakistani 🇵🇰 but our society has become something so weird, so orthodox, so unreasonable that only half are mullahs and the other half are beardless mullahs, who are even more dangerous. India, surely has gone ahead of us almost 70 or 90 years, except the current BJP, which will fade away after Congress retakes the government.
Haha atleast 20 years no congress is coming black British shit party
Please don’t reduce India to BJP vs Congress. Vajpayee was BJP and he was the one who reached out for peace with Pakistan. Pakistanis have to stand up to the army and it’s opportunistic politics of hating India. Indians have to stand up to communalism or religious appeasement. Get religion out of governance and politics should be the goal for all. We have much bigger issues and religion doesn’t help
Has anyone heard about moore's law? No one from audience 😉🧐🧐🤓🤓
I have found , most hard core engineering roles are taken up by Indians and few others. Hardcore engineering is mostly introvert and thankless job. Other nationalities mostly are comfortable with more extroverted project mgmt role which is equally challenging and rewarding in terms of emotional quotient.
This is called white collar slavery. Obviously white skin people will be holding marketing, travelling, project management etc but coloured skin people will alloted in hardcover engineering jobs
less than 20 people listening to 2 intellectuals. if there were 2 mullas or jihadis there would be 20 thousand
That is so true. That is where the real foundational issue lies.
Interesting. Can pakistan learn from india and China's experience with its baggage in terrorists incubation
America itself hs $900Billion SW services export. We Indians r earning peanuts of 250Bn, while China exports r $3Trillion, V Indians r 200 years behind china
Dear Professor, for hard sciences you need qualified teachers. We have nothing like that in Pakistan. I don’t know this gentleman went to MIT on a scholarship or not. But then he left hard sciences and went into business consultancy. Nothing wrong with it but that tells you the desi thought process. In the 80’s I know someone who went to MIT on a government scholarship. He did something in robotics ( not so sexy at the time) and came back and was working for a fertilizer factory!
Somebody asked what it will take for Pakistani children to get interested in physics and maths?
Well, even if they are interested, how Pakistani physics book defines what is physics? It starte with "Almighty Allah created this universe blah blah blah..."
I was shocked when some Pakistani intellectuals mentioned it on Pakistani tv channels and when I googled it was true..
exactly 15 people in the session listening to innovation in silicon valley. it is so shameful shows mindset of Pakistani youth & youthiya

5 times namaz happens in India, if same times in Pakistan then what's the difference?
Pakistan should remove all restrictions on Islam and have 50 times namaz daily and it will begin the golden era of Islam again.
