2011 upgrade changed to a 6 speed transmission for all Chargers. They kept that through 2020 and cancelled the awd hemi for 21 because the 8 speed was the same trans in use on all other chargers and they didn’t want to have a special driveshaft and transfer case just for one model of police charger. The awd hemi hadn’t been available to the public since 2014 model year.
I wonder what the state boys that currently use Charger Hemis will have to move on to after they retire them. Maybe on to heavier and slower vehicles like the Explorers and Tahoes.
They still do have the Durango for at least 2024 as it is, so they could use those if they wanted to. Otherwise keep using the old Charger Hemis until the wheels fall off 😂
New Hampshire State Police placed a massive order for AWD Hemi Chargers before they were discontinued, and just did one for the AWD V6s too. I suspect they have a bunch stashed away to keep using well into the future. They’re still using 2014 Chargers and even some 2010 Chargers in rural areas trying to get as much usage out of them as possible. They have never purchased a single Ford Explorer, not even for detectives.
Strange to think that the '23 Charger will possibly be the final American police "car". I'm very concerned for Dodge's future, if they loose out on the fleet/LE market by axing these models. Even if they bring out a next gen sedan, I'm worried that the Twin Turbo six may not have enough longevity to support the requirements of law enforcement agencies. I guess we'll see! I wish Dodge could just come out and start announcing their actual plans for the next few years. Announcing the end of your entire lineup and not a single replacement is just strange (well, aside from the Hornet).
Based on how few pre facelift ford explorers I see the police driving around i assume modern police cars are not durable. Even my local state patrol seems to have no pre facelift chargers left anymore. So dodge going for a twin turbo 6 cylinder would just make law enforcement continue to churn through patrol cars.
@@brayannexon4613 They're usually retired once they hit a set age, like 10 years, or a certain amount of miles, such as 100K. My town still has two 2008 Tahoes and one 2013 Tahoe still patrolling the streets. They still use a 2015 Explorer as well. It tends not to be about reliability when it comes to retiring vehicles, reliability issues will only affect future purchases usually.
@@brayannexon4613All depends on the department. Some departments, regardless of whether its 1000 officers or 10, get new cars every 60000 miles, like NYPD. Some departments, like LAPD and LASD, still use Crown Vics well past 400000 miles. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I think Dodge's future is bleak. They're listening to the moronic illegitimate government and putting everything into electric. Nobody with a brain wants an electric car. Limited range, time it takes to charge compared to fill up. When the battery is done, so is the car unless you have 18 - 25 grand for a new one. I don't know anyone who wants to have one. They must not have researched the numbers of who would even have one. We need to keep the illegitimate government out of our lives. They are so stupid that electric cars put out more of what they're trying to stop with the electric plants, and carbon is not a problem anyway. The pollution comes from the shit these chemical plants put out and the "geoengineering" they have been doing.

A few years back I was picking up used police cars for taxi company's and if it was a Crown Vic 200,000 miles bring a battery and some fresh gas drive it across the US to be setup as a taxi. if it was a dodge with 50,000 miles bring tow truck. I never towed a ford and never drove a dodge.
I had a 2009 Hemi Charger Pursuit, and it was pretty cool. The next 2 generations are what you want (11-23) as parts availability is much better than my first gen, and lots to choose from since they are so similar from 2011 on.
2018 awd here with the front rear tower brace and no actual equipment was ever installed inside or any paint, was phantom security for a few months. @@HansBelphegor
I have a 2011 pursuit, and I had to get the motor rebuilt about 3 years after owning. It wasn't actually the cam but a spun beaing. Word to the wise, spend the extra money, and delete the MDS if you do anything past bolt ons, those lifters were made in a bomb factory.
MDS isn't the cause of the failures in the valvetrain. A spun bearing has only one cause: lack of lubrication. Check your oil on these things, every day.
@UnionThugg im not saying that a bearing on the bottom of the block effects the valvetrain. I spun a bearing and just did the cam as well, two separate things. The mds oil-filled lifters can fail due to poor lubrication as a factory design flaw. Richard holdner is the hemi Jesus, im but a deciple.
@joshnoname7305 the MDS thing is a myth. Plenty of non-MDS lifters have failed on cars and trucks alike. That tells me it's more of an issue with vendor parts quality or the overall design. Probably both. Every 3G hemi I've owned ate the cam, one if them twice. It's pretty telling that Chrysler's latest policy is to check for debris in the VVT solenoid, and to replace the entire engine if there is. I think that stems from the fact that they had been replacing cams and lifters without tearing down and hot-tanking and/or flushing the block and heads. Debris would remain in the engine (the filter can't catch it all), and then you'd get scored rod and/or main bearings, as you've experienced. Worst thing is, there's no valid cure.
@UnionThugg Aye, I'm just saying, personally, on mine, my mds lifters were more worn, and my cam lobes with those lifters were worse than the non mds lifters and lobes. IMO, the entire motor would have benefitted from a better oil pump and no mds at all. I actually get better mpg highway with mds disabled. The hemi tick is a mystery, and the lore just grows.
@joshnoname7305 I had a '17 AWD Pursuit model. I bought it just after the cam and lifters had been replaced at the dealer. I got 10,000 miles out of it when I lost another lifter. The dealer was willing to replace everything again, but that was enough for me. I sold it for a song, and that person wound up having to replace the engine. They had dropped the pan and checked rods and mains, and discovered they were scored from the debris. Yet we do hear about some of them going for a long time without any noise or trouble. So who knows. My experience with that engine was very poor, especially compared to a 3.6 model I had, and quite a few 318/360 LA powered Mopars.
Should have known something was up when the Durango went pursuit and got a column shift. Well I hope there will be another sedan pursuit.. I look around and I see a large presence on pursuit chargers over anything else.
@@tonymorfin8750 -- I am still partial to the Ford Crown Victoria (old school), but that car went out of production nearly 13 years ago now. It's said to see the Charger Pursuit bite the dust because it was the last "police sedan" in the US market. Since GM quit offering the Chevrolet (Holden) Caprice PPV after 2017 and Ford axed the Taurus in 2019, the Charger was pretty much the only game in town. The Charger was a decent patrol car - decent acceleration with the V6 and wicked fast with the Magnum V8. It also had all-wheel-drive available; which was great for agencies in the snow belt. Chrysler engines built in the past several years have that ubiquitous oiling problem with the camshaft/lifters - exacerbated by the thousands of hours spent idling. For 2024, the Durango is likely to be the go-to option for law enforcement agencies who want a Dodge for routine patrol work. Ford will keep pumping out the Explorer and Chevrolet will soldier on with the big Tahoe. They each offer a pickup truck patrol vehicle as well.
@@Shortdailer I'd have to watch it to find out. And I didn't even watch most of it. Dodge Chargers are just a big car; Chrysler's take on a Crown Victoria, but less quality.
I’ve been in love with that 6-10 model ever since they first appeared in GTA 4 in the hands of the FIB Agents. That slick black with a spotlight and steelies just looked mean. Ended up owning my own right at the end of Highschool. I should’ve never gotten rid of it, my younger self wanted a 4x4 pickup truck. Today I’ve got my eye on a new prize: one of those newer police specials with the V8 and AWD!
Ottawa, ON, Canada, mostly are Ford Explorer, we do have Dodge Charger but rarely see them, mostly they are used for Highway Patrol, but in Quebec, the whole fleet is Charger
If you want a less than 5 seconds 0-60 on the V8 AWD, use a tazer, put it in rear wheel mode manual, and enable launch control. It's almost hurting to see they leave it so tame when in fact it's a beast if you unlock it. Even better if you finesse your intake and exhaust, SRT shorty headers, PCM unlock and tune... 4.5s 0-60 or less...
It's called the police pursuit package not enforcer...it wasn't canceled they still use them everywhere even the 6th gens. They prefer suvs now bc of that suv fad that was going on which has left and used to much gas so they r going back to sedans this coming year look into it
Errata: Soecial Order Paint - minimum was always 5 cars. Always, well back to the lare 60's. LD - Entire 2011 - 2023 run. Body designation did not change with 2015 updates. AWD was added in December of 2014 (mid '14 model year) BR9 brakes were optional from mid - '14, then made standard in 2015. 12" screen was dropped after 2020. A580 trans was discontinued after 2020, models then Changed to V6-AWD and V8-RWD. V6 car used the Durango's 850RE, V8 car used the 8HP70. Electronic speed limiter was 140 for both cars, now field-adjustable (downward only). In 2019, they sold 21,000 Charger Pursuit models in the US. 2020 was a very short model year (2 months) for the Pursuit, and the new Durango Pursuit took the lead sales spot for the FCA/Stellantis Fleet roster. As production of the Charger Pursuit resumed, sales evened up a little bit more between the two vehicles. Production of the Charger Pursuit ceased in Sept of 2023. The switch to 8-spd transmissions did not affect performance. The 3G hemi valvetrain failures were NOT limited to the 2009+ eagle engines, nor to just the MDS engines. It was a design flaw that didnt allow for variations in component materials. Final Analysis: the Charger survived every other domestic police sedan. We can expect the new Dodge police sedan (as yet unnamed) to offer a variety of propulsion choices, including the Hurricane Six.
@canadaguy1234 December of 2014, so technically 2nd quarter. But yes, AWD and BR9 appeared at that time. BR9 was standard on AWD, optional on V8 and V6 RWD until made standard on all 3 models in 2015.
@@UnionThugg BR9 became standard on all 2014s or at least V8 models for the later part of the year. AWD came out in the fall. The first ones I saw were manufactured and delivered in September.
@canadaguy1234 Dec 14th, 2014 was the changeover date from R/T AWD to Pursuit AWD. To make it worse, I have seen one of these 2014 models for sale with a 2015 VIN. That may have been a seller issue. I worked at Dodge I can guarantee after 2013 starting in mid 2012 the all-wheel-drive pursuit chargers were a thing all wheel drive with a hemi bike. You have no idea how many of those cars of work done and how many of those cars are fucking fixed.
I'm sorry but you are never going to see a current gen or next gen fully EV car in any public service since they don't have the range to get the job done, most they can do is hybrid at the moment.
Where is the exempt button this was literally the crown vic for Dodge remember how ford stopped production for civilians back in 2008 and then announced 2011the last year they could've still had 3 years left and all agencies in the u.s stock up I have a crown vic i drive on the weekend im still debating purchasing between explorer twin turbo or the charger hemi rwd the brakes shouldn't be a issue for me but trying to manage lifters vs a water now pump man thanx 😮😢😊
The water pump in the Fords is as bad or worse to change then the cam in the Dodge. It and the cheap interior were the two things that stopped me from getting a taurusceptor. The peeling white paint that ford hasn't fixed in 30 years didn't help either.
Awesome video sir But yeah, Ford is better than Dodge for sure but dodge vehicles do look good I’m not gonna lie but I’m a foreman, but I plan on getting a Dodge soon I don’t know but I like the police interceptor vehicles I love them
Mopars vs Police. Chargers Police pursuits smoked by srt8s, srt 392s, scatpacks & hellcats these days and there videos out there. Dodge chargers pursuits can keep up with v6 civilian chargers and challengers & rt chargers and challengers.
Kinda interesting how they never offered a 392 to officers maybe in higher crime/chase areas. There must be stats that show it’s not worth it for them idk
@NewtownVids yeah I have definitely seen those seized before! My thinking is that how many people would run from the cops? Maybe 1 in 5,000 or 10,000? Not enough to warrant having a “fast” cop car
@@MarspeedCarsA higher priority is durability. Namely that the vehicle can take and give a beating. Plus, the idling they do is a big factor too cause why waste a Hellcat like that. Frankly, all you need it to do is be able to catch normal traffic cars. Which the 5.7's and 3.6's can do quite well. What most of these Mopar boys who run fail to realize is that if the cops really want you, they are gonna get you. Especially if you run from them multiple times. A Even then, you ain't worth the effort most of the time. Running from the cops isn't about skill, only luck matters. Cause all it takes is for you to fly around a blind corner and someone to pull out in front of you. Plus, most departments have a pursuit policy of some kind, normally saying that if it reaches X speed, break off, too dangerous. Thus 392's and Hellcats would never actually be that useful aside from the Accerleration and uhhh, good luck getting that with that heavy ram bar on the front.
These body's are very light built to save weight for fuel economy, not made for heavy duty service as police pursuit. The hurricane engines sent michigan state police in stage 1 wagoners every engine failed overheating, oil leaks, blown headgaskets. Told to leave and come back with better product next year.
350's small blocks and 5.0 fords lasted 30 years. The Hemi should have done the same. If it weren't for political pressure from people we pay to fight wars and fix the streets that is.
Last year I got a 2020 Pursuit V8 AWD, which had very low mileage and very low idle hours, and was a fair price. Yes it was rear-ended while in service but it was fixed up well and over a year later I'm still very happy with mine. It's my daily driver and great on road trips. I have made several performance and cosmetics mods (a few videos on my own little channel... More like a profile), with a few more mods in mind after the factory powertrain warranty expires late next year. @MarspeedCars : Yes the Charger/Challenger platform as we knew it h got long in the tooth. Even with some refreshes and upgrades, 18 years was a heck of a good run. Though many of us are sad to see it and the V8 go, the upcoming sedan replacement to carry on the Charger name will at least have +400 to +500HP with the Hurricanes and went look like a Pri[ck]us. Too bad Stellantis, overall, is injecting too much Eurotrash schemes into Dodge's U.S. market though.
Y'know if dodge was smart they would either stop peoduction of just the 5.7 hemi or tune it up with their new e-force system to beat the EPA's fines. Believe it or not dodges highest contributor to fines is the 5.7, i know dodge likes having a fair few engine options thats whats killing em.
Charger Pursuit is a total POS for patrol. Maybe, MAYBE strictly highway patrol on open roads but that's it. On patrol they'll give you about a year of good service. After that they literally start falling apart. Bushings, Bearings, front-end, pulleys, power steering etc etc. That plus they CONSTANTLY overheat
My son is a sheriff in my town and he has a charger that’s a hemi and all wheel drive. And I can take off and leave him, and have in my wife’s Altima and my Lincoln Mark LT. thank God radios are fast because Dodge Chargers certainly are not.
Can’t wait for Dodge to go out of business, same with Chrysler. This series of horrendous business decisions and even worse build quality and reliability needs to come to a permanent end. Its a serious wonder how the company lasted this long with leadership this terrible.
Don't worry about expensive to repair unibodies (it's why you still see long gone Ford Crown Vics and Ford SUVs over new Dodge Chargers all over the place) there is NO DODGE as of next year; they have no cars to sell for at least 2 years so like the failed Dart (Viaggio) we can kiss Dodge bye bye like Plymouth, Imperial and DeSoto. Stellantis' sub brand Chrysler is LUCKY Jeep and RAM make trucks and SUVs otherwise Chrysler would be out of business along with Dodge. 👀
It does say this in the title, however, the magnum was something that should be mentioned because of what it was and its relation to the Charger@@sminem6572
Lookup "2023 Model Year Police Vehicle Evaluation" by the Michigan State Police. Other vehicles, namely Ford's Police Interceptor Utility (related to the Explorer) has been rated better. Ford's PIU has a higher ride height, roomier, and the all wheel drive Ecoboost is more fuel efficient than Dodge's RWD Hemi, and probably cheaper, too. Nothing against Dodge, just being descriptive.
Dodge is dead last in everything. Build quality, reliability, comfortableness, handling, fuel economy, tech, etc. Only two things they succeed at are straight line speed and selling to people with no money and bad credit. I’d take a two decade old Crown Vic or a decade old Impala over a Charger as a patrol car every time, and most other officers would too.
Comparing the Turd to the Charger is not too intelligent. Compare it to the Durango. The test is primarily used by agencies to qualify vehicles for bidding purposes. Returning to reality, the Ford is a disaster. Most agencies purchase the 3.3 or hybrid, nit the ecoboom. It's still more expensive than the Charger, and comparable to the Durango. And Ford continues to cancel orders, while Dodge will sell a Durango to any agency that wants one. An agency in my county is returning all of their 2020+ turds on lease for new Durangos. They don't have enough usable space, they have trouble seeing out of them, and they haven't held up worth a damn. While none of the newer police models are particularly durable or reliable, dollar for dollar, the Dodge remains the best value.
#Mopar #Brakes have always been sub-par & weak, all mentioned is an issue with every vehicle they make. Specifically with their enforcers, one would THINK Mopar would've learned from The #DodgeIntrepid??? Happy Thanksgiving!
As long as you don’t have to pay for repairs, I guess the Dodge is ok….all the cops who want to live through a crash usually pick a Ford….wait until a few of the Chargers and Durangos are hit on the side of the freeway and cops start getting burned. Fords had this issue in the early to mid 90’s and took care of it. I bet Chrysler hasn’t been sued enough to bother with it. Ford would regain market share if they re-introduced a sedan to the lineup. A lot of cops don’t like the SUV because they perceive it to be tippy, even though the last few years the Explorer was(3.5 turbo) quicker, faster, braked better and went around the road course quicker than any Dodge.
Oh yea , just as you need to chase someone the battery will go dead !…… perfect ! Also the Officer will be out of service until the car is charged ! Pure genius !………

The Crown Vic is one of the greatest police cars ever. Down on power but bulletproof and handled great.
@Marspeed should I get 2017 Dodge Charger pursuit AWD V8v? 92.000 miles
I can tell you from experience, that 5 speed paired with that 3.6 was absolutely horrible
Not at the top end, where the 3.6 prefers to run. The newer models with the 8-spd are dogs at the top end.

I had a 2009 Hemi Charger Pursuit, and it was pretty cool. The next 2 generations are what you want (11-23) as parts availability is much better than my first gen, and lots to choose from since they are so similar from 2011 on.
And being a Chrysler product, you'll def need those parts.
I was kinda hope that the Charger pursuit could be the icon after the Crown Victoria
As it was said in American top gear its here for your soul
The crown Vic will always be the iconic US cop car.
A few agencies in Delaware actually went back to old Crown Vics I assume due to the issues

To me this era will always remind me of the fact that police Chargers could never seem to keep up with Civilian Chargers.

What a shame to see the Dodge Charger Pursuit going out of production.
They weren't actually that cool anyway.

Yes I do. Still gets daily driven by my sister, still kicking gotta be around 375,000kms by now!
I see it as a huge mistake cancelling these chargers. Everywhere you look in North America you see chargers used in police forces.
Ford should have kept the cvpi and coyote updated...
I miss dad’s Fury III from the Sheriff’s department. Now that was scary in the rear view.

My county sheriffs used chargers from 2012 till present but now are switching to Durangos and other suv platforms
Nashville tested them out, noticed braking wasn't the best, so they went with the Ford Explorer
It’s getting cancelled because they are going away. Most cops want suv now days because they drive so bad they need the frame so it’ll take a hit.
Got a 5.7 pursuit and tazer never messed with launch control. Have to try it out

It's called the police pursuit package not enforcer...it wasn't canceled they still use them everywhere even the 6th gens. They prefer suvs now bc of that suv fad that was going on which has left and used to much gas so they r going back to sedans this coming year look into it

AWD and BR9 brakes both came in at the same time in 3rd quarter 2014.
@canadaguy1234 December of 2014, so technically 2nd quarter. But yes, AWD and BR9 appeared at that time. BR9 was standard on AWD, optional on V8 and V6 RWD until made standard on all 3 models in 2015.

@@MarspeedCars They only way officers can get a hellcat & 392 in their fleet is when they seized them from drug dealers, street takeovers etc.
Even then, you ain't worth the effort most of the time.

: Yes the Charger/Challenger platform as we knew it h got long in the tooth.
Huge mistake. Thanks a lot Stellantis...

Yet the Michigan State Police still just got a bunch of new Durango Pursuits.

The Dodge Charger is one of the ugliest cars ever built.
I guess a lot of people like ugly then because they are all over the road, dime a dozen.
