    I own the SD and have owned the SMP and sorry Tim the Omega is not in the same league as the Rolex. The better comparison is SMP vs Sub or Planet Ocean vs SD. The SD43 is close to perfection. The SMP is a great value no doubt but it's no substitute for a Sea Dweller.

Omega, on the other hand, has such beautiful offerings in so many ways. And Omega is a different kind of company from Rolex, in so many good ways. Omega is my preference.♥️👍

    Every time I see this Omega Seamaster, in these colors I can't help getting pissed off that for far under 10,000 Omega can give us a watch that without doubt is the equal of,(in spec, tech, and mode of manufacture) of any Rolex dive watch. For machine made, machine finished timepieces I think Omega is top of the heap. And It shows that the 'price differential' is arbitrary and solely a function of brand hype.

      I would have to agree with you entirely, I have just received my new Omega Seamaster 300 in this colour. Not ever owning a Rolex but for me I have found that Omega quality is exceptional and I find that Omega look a little more refined IMO. My major gripe with Rolex is the date inhancer it just looks awful and distorts the face.

    • @highnrising
      @highnrising 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omega hypes its brand plenty. They advertise near as much as Rolex, sponsor sporting events and pay athletes and celebrities to endorse their watches. Personally, I own an Omega--not a Rolex--but I'm not complaining that Rolex is a more-premium watch.

  • @mhinchy86

    Owning both watches, each are great but there is no real comparison the SD43 is leagues ahead, maybe as Tim's not the wearer of both we come to this bizarre conclusion. I have the SMP 300 'great white' which is a nice contrast of options, and certainly good for strap combos. Seems like WB are having trouble flogging this particular grey SMP

  • @drsparwaga

      definitely a much, MUCH better watch by every metric, and i want to say, "BUT not for the price" (which is why this is a very lopsided comparison). However, comparing both NEW, the Rolex costs you literally NEGATIVE $4000 (creates that value for you). The Seamaster, contrary to the Seadweller, will look completely outdated in 10 years.

    • @IrishScribbler
      @IrishScribbler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yet it’s managed to last nearly 30 years with improvements in movement and design, as well as remaining Omega’s best selling watch. Kinda pisses on your argument doesn’t it? 🤦🏻

    • @RJH5202
      @RJH5202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IrishScribbler No, it doesn’t ‘piss on my argument’ actually because my claim (it wasn’t an argument) that the Seamaster featured in this video will look outdated in 10 years has nothing to do with the succes of the line in general🤦🏼. No doubt Omega will have a Seamaster that will look the part in 10 years and will be popular but my claim is that it won’t resemble THIS current model. The ‘improvement in design’ as you call it is exactly the reason. The Seamaster tends to emphasize style (wave dial, skeleton hands, open caseback etc.) over function, and style, contrary to function, is time sensitive. That’s why they have changed and will continue to change in looks sufficiently to make past models look outdated. The fact that the Seadweller stays rigidly loyal to its original functional design from the 60s IS its strength for the future. So the fact that the Seamaster has been and probably will remain popular for quite some time can co-exist with my claim just fine. The fact however that Seadwellers from the 90’s (and of all era’s) are, contrary to Seamasters from the 90s, still very sought after kinda of proves my point. And btw no need to use profanity let’s remain respectful.

    • @highnrising
      @highnrising 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RJH5202 The close-up video is both a blessing and a curse. The waves on the Seamaster dial do not look nearly as prominent and obtrusive on the actual watch as they appear on the magnified, blon up image on your 25-inch-plus computer monitor.

      @SkilfulLeader1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RJH5202 in all honesty i do prefer the Omega mainly because it suits my budget, however your point rather than argument was made pretty clear to which I’d probably agree. Not that I’m into blowing smoke it’s just a case of excepting the pedigree of the watch and both Omega and Rolex will always stand the test of time because they attract an entirely different enthusiast. No profanity used! 👍

  • @TheRunningManZ

    I own a current gen SMP300. It’s great, but the bracelet is just not to quite the same standard as a Rolex bracelet. Owning and wearing daily there is a clear difference. The edges are sharper on wrist, the clasp fastening is not as tight, to the same tolerances, the whole clasp in general feels flimsier.
    The SMP300 is a great watch, that dial is amazing. Overall it’s clearly the better buy when considering the prices. But the bracelet is a fair bit behind a sub bracelet. The rest is pretty much on par.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree the Rolex bracelet is better, but that's cause I bought the watch before the craze. Is the Rolex bracelet better? Yes, as you've articulated. If the Omega bracelet bad? No. Is the bracelet worth the price premium? No. That's the impasse I'm at when it comes to Rolex vs. Omega these days.

    • @TheRunningManZ
      @TheRunningManZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @N A “a great quality but uncomfortable” bracelet is a contradiction in terms. If you hold the two side by side the fit to the watch and the way the clasp closes and works is just not to the same tolerances. There is a quality difference when you wear both.
      But that’s ok cos they sell a rubber strap which both looks amazing and is super comfortable. I’d also add that my SMP had to go back after a week because it was running slow (against spec). A movement not keeping time happens, but it also went back at the same time for a broken clasp on the bracelet. The store stupidly told me it wasn’t the only one they’d had as well implying others had gone back for the same thing.

    • @TheRunningManZ
      @TheRunningManZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @N A replaced the clasp, adjusted the movement. I don’t think there was anything wrong with it aside from needing an adjustment.

    • @TheRunningManZ
      @TheRunningManZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @N A It went to Omega, I'm confident they have done things right. Watches usually lose their water resistance when seals degrade etc. I've swam with it since, all fine.

But I gotta say the non - tapered bracelet on the Seamaster with the flatter lie, gives it a truly great balanced very secure stable feel on the wrist you truly appreciate when on a bike, snowmobile, or jetski and then easily transforms to a dress piece . Funny thing is, if I was going diving, I wouldn't think twice about using the Omega, however there is no way I would be taking the Rolex diving. Which is a bit silly considering what the Rolex can do, but I feel now with the higher retail price and much higher preowned price, I just wouldn't feel comfortable. So as a tool watch, for me the Rolex isn't one and is more of a dress up and go out watch. Problem with that is, there are so many better dress up watches for that kind of money. Part of me feels that Rolex has lost its way, and heritage to watch enthusiasts. I'm sure the prawn sandwich brigade will still pay silly money for them.

      Agreed! I would never dive with this Seamaster. It’s style over function.

    omega wins, but in terms of price and business point of view, Rolex all the way.

    The Omega is cooler, but, unfortunately, because of its boring style, the Rolex will not look dated. Maybe if the Omega make the blue less bright and the wave less prominent or eliminate it…Then it would be more versatile and timeless? Maybe that’s why I have no interest in updating my 2006 gmt2.
    Sighs….at least Toyotas and Lexus are trying to have some personality to go with their reliability.
    Then again, Rolex, Toyota, and Lexus do hold their values better than any brands.

    No comparison here; except that the date on the Omega is far too small and the Rolex .... I don't like Rolex watches in any shape of form .... They look cheap; are mass produced and are far too common .... That's why I bought an AP, RO, Offshore QE II Cup, Hong Kong 2016, in Pink Gold and Forged Carbon ....
