    You forgot one step: to quickly crack open the gas bottle valve to release any dirt or debris before you attach the gauge hose. I know the bottle is new, but it is a good habit.

    Hey chris thank you so very much for the demo.
    you are by far one of the only people who are very thorough in explaining with video all the details of setting up a machine from cables, gas, advise, the works.
    yes I was a navy man who did aluminum and steel welding and depending on who you worked for they did not always explain all aspects in working just get the job done you had to read, network, and learn on your own.

    Just a quick thank you to you, Chris for putting this video out. Gas settings is what I came for. Thank you for the clear explanation and helping to close the gap between unboxing the welder and using it for the first time. You made the process very approachable. That's a sign of a good teacher!
    PS - Ignore the hate. There's some good advice in some of these comments, other comments are lame. You can be the judge of which is which. :)

    Great video very informative great explanation of setting up and getting the machine ready for welding. I will definitely be following your channel for more videos Im just starting to learn welding as well. I purchased a used Lincoln SP135 special with the smaller tank filled I bought it from a 80 year old gentleman who only welded together. a welding cart for it.The machine sat till I bought it cant wait to start MIG welding Im doing rocker panels I understand 18 gauge is a good sheet metal to use with 0.23 wire. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks 👍

    Great info, I wasn’t sure what the gas should be set at. Just a little info, I went back and forth for years about where to get the 140 or 180. I ended up buying a used 125 with regulators, tank cart and shield. Wow I have done so much auto body panel fab and welding and even this little guy can get things done. I wished I had bought the 140 long ago! Now I’ve just finished fabricating a rotisserie for my car body and could only just barely tack weld the 1/4” plate to the 1”x3” square tubing. Tomorrow I am taking it to a weld shop to properly weld it. If I had the 180 I could have done it all myself. So if you just work off 115 volt it is more convenient than 230 volt except in this scenario. Today, I would take the hit and pay up for the 210MP... the best of both worlds!!! Thanks for the excellent vid Bro!!!!

    Great video for a beginner. Just a couple things always purge your new bottle before putting the regulator on. Always have the black nob or t screw all the way out before cracking the bottle open. Soap and water your connections from welder to the bottle to check for leaks. I'm a certified welder this is what we are tought in school and is a good safe practice.

    I had a choice between buying a bottle and renting. I decided to rent for now. On a 125 cu ft bottle, same size as yours I think, $100 deposit, $7.50/month, and same $ for gas as a bought bottle. Works for me right now. Some places rent bottles, some do not.
    You did a great job with the basic startup instructions! My only criticism is that you need to protect your skin. Cover hands and arms. Think “skin cancer”. I say that cause I’m an old dude with skin cancer.

    • @chriscraft77022
      @chriscraft77022  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only used half the bottle since the video... that’s why I didn’t rent...

    • @hgj2019
      @hgj2019 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chriscraft77022 I absolutely do not disagree. Everyone has to do what works best for them. In my case, I was undecided about which size I wanted as I had no idea how much I would consume. Renting is, in large measure, a “trial” for me. Once I get a good idea about how often I’ll be going for a refill I may commit to a purchase. Of course, I’m old enough to wonder about the gas bottle in the estate sale!👨🏼‍🏭😳😁
      NOW, tell me you are going to take care of yourself and “cover up” when welding. You can thank me later.😁

    I really beg to differ regarding building your own welding cart. Go on craigslist, kijiji, thrift store, etc etc and buy one of those folding steel bed frames with castors for 10-20 bucks and you have more than enough angle iron to make the cart with and it even comes with the castors. And you can make it however big you want with however many shelves you want etc etc. You own a welder, USE IT.

    • @danryan3146

    I really wish Lincoln would list the inches per minute on the wire feed, really helped me to dial stuff in when going off of processes I read or learned about. Knowing the IPM really helps. Checked my Linc Power MIG 180 Dual; #3 = 180 ipm, #4 = 225, 5 = 300, 6 = 350 and 7 = 390 ipm. I wrote it right on my machine. Should be the same for the 180C or 180HD.

    I know that I'm way late with this comment but besides not blowing the debris out of the gas bottle I would have also turned the regulator all the way out before turning the gas on. That way the gas isn't coming out of the regulator wide open. You can bring it up slowly from 0#'s of pressure to the desired pressure. Not critizing, just giving an opinion. Otherwise a great video. 👍

Like them patch panels , you can mig them 3 times as fast , and if you tig it normally you will have some warpage , But if you mig and move around use a hammer and dolly it turns out way straighter.

    Hi,
    I just came across your video on the Lincoln 180 mig pro welder.
    I want to start welding projects at home. Nothing commercial or for work. Just wanted to know how this welder is working for you.
    Looks good for my needs but just want to see if you came across anything you didn't like with this unit.

    In my area I can lease a tank for about $125 for five years and will not have any testing or maintenance related charges to deal with. About $50 to fill the tank. Not a bad deal!

    Hello, I have just recently unboxed a multiprocess welder that I actually bought about just over 18 months ago.
    Now I come to use it, I find that it does not have any chart on the inside of the side door/flap, to use as a guide to setting up.
    Do you know where I could get such a chart as I need to know what settings to use for different thickness of metal?
    The company i purchased it from has not replied to my question/request, as I think they are more interested in selling their gas, here in the Eastern Australia.

    Aren't Co2 and Argon valves supposed to be opened all the way because they have a double seated valve?

    Same problem. I was socked at how much gas is. They wanted 399 for the bottle 1 size smaller than the one you have. I found 1 online for about 260.
