The scene with Superman picking this suit and the voice overs with two father characters was absurdity. Pa Kent rejected the superman aspect of Clark and his bio father didn't even know him. So that was pure hero worship... gross 🤢
Great job ranting on a film that to me personally is the DC cinematic universe equivalent of a monster truck. It's over compensating, over the top, over indulgent and totally ridiculous. And unlike a monster truck rally there's not much high octane excitement. I liked and was entertained by at most 20 minutes of the 4 hour running time. The majority of the time, the film is the monster truck on less than a half a tank of gas that is spinning its wheels stuck in the mud.
@53:30 - The Flash from the early-2000's cartoon series (which I grew up with as well) was Walley West whereas Ezra Miller's version of the character was of the Barry Allen incarnation. That's why they both acted differently. Then again, I can't say Ezra's was spot on whatsoever in terms of how Barry Allen was in the comics since I never cared enough about the Flash to read any real comic unless it was Justice League related. Anyways, that's my two cents about that whole situation with the Flash.
31:35 the reason why it look shotty because the vfx artist was creating, adding and mixing in new CG mix with old CG from 5 years ago from 5 year old computer hardware, those scenes weren't new scenes that were filmed recently.
This movie is awful man. I never understood the hype for Zack Snyder, his movies are so boring. I reviewed it today also. I think fans who wanted this movie were blinded by their love for Zack and cognitive disodence.
I'm not a fan of his work anyway. I'll admit, I used to love Man Of Steel, but it's more overrated the more I think of it, especially after seeing Batman V Superman.
The cartoons you mentioned (Superman, Justice League, Teen Titans) are great representations of the comic books. The disclaimer about not reading the comics I get but trust me when I say you have a better understanding of these characters than Zack Snyder (or maybe he gets them and just hates them.)

Now if they took something original he did and pushed it through then that's a different story. They would've been better to get someone who was already working on the film so that they could've kept the same tone of the film and what Zack wanted to go with.

The only thing that bothered me in BTAS was how they ruined Tim so badly they fucked him up from the comics. They used his original Robin design for Dick and then later used his black and red suit on Jason who they renamed "Tim" but it was Jason Todd had his whole backstory and everything. Thank you for pointing out the Bvs ending you might be the first to have done so. Personally I didn’t hate it . There were some parts of it I actually rather enjoyed. The whole premise of the story arc is dependent superman and his resurrection , the problem I have is that I just don’t care about this particular iteration of the character they have given me no reason to care , he’s brooding , sullen and at times unlikable ( now who does that remind you of ? Cause I can think of someone and it’s not superman ) I can understand him being like that at first , but once he finds out who he is and his parents hope for him surely the perspective has to change ?

Dude you're entitled to your opinions & I do agree with you that some of these comic movies just didn't sit well with me either they've could've been better. You bring up some very good points the JL was a tad better but there's still problems with it. The animated shows& movies are far more better with greater details & the characters are in their element. WHY CAN'T THEY GET IT RIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO LIVE ACTION? Flash didn't act like Flash, Cyborg was too scowling, Lois wasn't given anything to do, they killed Superman off way too soon. And yes Bruce going around letting everyone knows who he is in the comics & animated Bruce was animate about keeping his identity secret. When I saw him throw his batarang at Barry I was like WTF? You just told him who you are the same could be said for Diana a person easily tell she's WW. Why not wear glasses like Lynda Carter did on the 70s WW TV show people could not tell her apart from WW. Yes, the slow motion way too much of that, Superman in the black outfit should've been saved for the last scene in the future with the scene of Batman, Mera, a bearded Flash, Cyborg & Joker. When Superman lands in front of them that's when he should be wearing the black suit because Lois was dead & he became a tyrant.
slow motion is a lot like the horror movie jump scares you abuse it it becomes ineffective more gimmicky and an act of desperation to hold the audience's attention because you can't be creative or think of something else to do.

I'm so glad I didn't see this film. The 2001 animated series will always, and forever will be, better than the 2017 live action film (both the theatrical cut and the Snyder cut). Forget the DCEU, DCAU is where it's at.
One of the most overrated pieces of shit i've seen and one of my worst movies of the year! i don't get the hype, praise and all. This movie like the first is a badly written, colorless, pretentious, self-indulgant piece of crap! nice performances on Batman and Cyborg but the pacing is poor and the writing is substandard. This movie sucks! James Gunn is a better writer and director than Snyder as he puts color and fun into his movies.

Synder is vile. He can't act decent In public or speak decently in public. His movies are absurd. Oh the yodelling with wonder woman was silly. And superman's scream was not how sound works...and there was no reason the motherboxes had to wait for superman to die... Also his connection to Louis was overdone. I didn't like it. Yeah the plot is better because now you know the bad guys motivation, but the films so boring and all the slow motion got on my nerves. I don't understand why I'm seeing so many people say that The Flash is different and this version is their favourite character in the film, he's still super annoying and cringy every time he speaks. I still don't think there's much character development either.

To be fair I haven't seen that owl movie I'll have to check it out to see for myself. Just haven't been impressed by his movies as a whole. I like this version of the 2021 Justice League, the 2017 was disappointing, Steppenwolf was more imposing and badass this time around, the heroes are taken serious and the film 🎞 had more depth and there was more anticipation between every mother box 📦 , a long 4 hours but I still enjoyed it, Superman’s black suit is cool.

In Snyder's cut he wears the Black suit for no reason, no explanation and it's NOT because he needed to restore his powers because his powers was at 100% when he was resurrected and fought the other heroes. Thank god for you buddy. The Internet has driven me crazy with the praise for this film. I didn't like it. The guy made the film twice as long and we got some more backstory that didn't serve the story of the actual film, nor build tension/drama. At best it was mildly improved due to the extra 2 hours. If the bar is so low that a director given yet another chance, another 70 mill and a further 2 hours is a little more bio info... Just not enough. Also, Joker said he give batman a reach around while looking like a 5 year old after eating spaghetti bolognase.

The Superman vs Zod fight was like a bunch of September 11ths. Judging by all the destruction at least 100,000 people died. Superman the HERO would have drawn Zod out of metropolis. Batman is not a psycho killer into branding people. Zack Snyder hates these characters. WB made a disasterous decision having him kick off the DC universe.
Only one building collapsed, which was caused by Zod, during the fight with Zod in Metropolis, so you're definitely exaggerating the death toll. Plus, Superman did try to move Zod away from Metropolis but Zod kept breaking out of his grip and returning to fight among the skyscrapers.
Go read war of the Supermen there is destruction there or go watch Superman vs Darksied where Superman punches him into 5 buildings. Stop with that Superman bullshit narrative
The Fistful if Dollars trilogy, Ten Commandments and Skyfall were over 3 hours long, but we're still entertaining and I enjoyed them. The Snyder cut was boring.
I enjoyed the movie and would give it an 8.5/10, but one of my major issues is the 4-hour runtime. It DID NOT have to be 4-hours. And I agree that they should've done solo movies first instead of trying to catch up to Disney's MCU. Giving everyone solo movies would've easily chopped off 60 to 90 minutes of the movie. All the backstory on Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman would've been dealt with and we could just jump right in with their characters in a Justice League movie. Having to do a backstory on them just made the plot take a detour for a while. I got so caught up in Cyborg and Flash's stuff that I needed a moment or two to remind myself about the main plot. And a solo Batman movie or two would've helped out. Ben Affleck is fine, but I don't feel attached to him or Alfred. With the way they rushed things, I feel forced on liking Ben Affleck's Batman. I also agree that most of the epilogue didn't need to happen. When we see Clark go down the alley and rip open his shirt to reveal his costume underneath and it cuts to black, THAT should've been when the end credits kicked in. The Lex Luthor and Deathstroke stuff should've been a scene halfway through the end credits, and then the Bruce and Martian Manhunter scene should've been a scene after the end credits. Then have the nightmare/dream stuff be the next movie's opening scene. Heck, even the Bruce Wayne and Martian Manhunter scene could be part of that opening scene too. When Martian Manhunter flies off and Bruce says "I guess I'll see you around," that's the cue for the opening credits. But when Cyborg's dad's closing speech/monologue ends and we see Clark rip open his shirt while going down the alley, THAT's when the movie should've ended. Everything after that should be optional, meaning that it should be during or after the end credits. I actually didn't mind the slow-mo stuff. It's whatever. I just shrugged at it. There was some minor things too that could've been left out. The women singing was not needed, or that whole Aquaman scene where he saves the guy and walks out of the bar and we see him in slow-mo for like 2 minutes. Another thing I agree with is the black suit Superman wore. I'm aware it's supposed to help Superman heal, but it was never explained. They could've gave a quick explanation. Like a line of dialogue from the ship. To me, the black suit comes off as a personal fashion choice Superman made, or a personal fashion choice Zack Snyder made (for "to be cool" reasons). And even at the end when he takes off his clothes and reveals the costume underneath, it should've been the regular Superman costume and not the black suit. I even questioned that and scratched my head. That's when I really knew it had to be some personal fashion choice whether it was Clark's choice or Zack Snyder's choice. Actually, when Superman is revived, he looked pretty healed to me. The wound he died from was fully healed and his powers looked like they were at max power since he took on all the other members of the Justice League. So that further makes me believe the black suit was just a fashion choice. So with all my complaints, I have to give the movie at least an 8.5/10. Maybe a 9/10 if I'm in a nice mood. I still had a lot of fun watching it, and it's a much better movie than the Joss Whedon cut, but it's not perfect. Still has flaws.

Nit picks? How does a full minute of women singing to Aquaman, which could easily be cut out & brought nothing to the proceedings except an already over-long running time, be considered a nitpick?
It seems to me you don’t understand the point of adding that scene to the film. They’re singing because they worship him because of the deeds he did for the people which adds some character development to Aquaman.

31:35 the reason why it look shotty because the vfx artist was creating, adding and mixing in new CG mix with old CG from 5 years ago from 5 year old computer hardware, those scenes weren't new scenes that were filmed recently.
This movie is awful man. I never understood the hype for Zack Snyder, his movies are so boring. I reviewed it today also. I think fans who wanted this movie were blinded by their love for Zack and cognitive disodence.

The cartoons you mentioned (Superman, Justice League, Teen Titans) are great representations of the comic books. The disclaimer about not reading the comics I get but trust me when I say you have a better understanding of these characters than Zack Snyder (or maybe he gets them and just hates them.)
I don't know about Snyder hating the characters but he certainly improved them by changing them from altruistic to selfish heroes.

I know you're not big on Snyder's DC films but let's be honest: what Zach Snyder went through with losing his daughter and then getting screwed by Former Brahs was pretty shady and heartbreaking. Now if they took something original he did and pushed it through then that's a different story. They would've been better to get someone who was already working on the film so that they could've kept the same tone of the film and what Zack wanted to go with.

The only thing that bothered me in BTAS was how they ruined Tim so badly they fucked him up from the comics. They used his original Robin design for Dick and then later used his black and red suit on Jason who they renamed "Tim" but it was Jason Todd had his whole backstory and everything. Thank you for pointing out the Bvs ending you might be the first to have done so. Personally I didn’t hate it . There were some parts of it I actually rather enjoyed. The whole premise of the story arc is dependent superman and his resurrection , the problem I have is that I just don’t care about this particular iteration of the character they have given me no reason to care , he’s brooding , sullen and at times unlikable ( now who does that remind you of ? Cause I can think of someone and it’s not superman )
I can understand him being like that at first , but once he finds out who he is and his parents hope for him surely the perspective has to change ?

They made a big to do about hauling the coffin around. They just needed the body. And there was an obscene focus on the pah Kent photo...why? I mean EVERYTHING in the flash running in the scout ship the ship AI kept going "THis is an ireversable action." over and over again. Everything is a character...even an incendental ship AI. Artifically building tension.
Dude you're entitled to your opinions & I do agree with you that some of these comic movies just didn't sit well with me either they've could've been better. You bring up some very good points the JL was a tad better but there's still problems with it. The animated shows& movies are far more better with greater details & the characters are in their element. WHY CAN'T THEY GET IT RIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO LIVE ACTION? Flash didn't act like Flash, Cyborg was too scowling, Lois wasn't given anything to do, they killed Superman off way too soon. They could've waited at least 4 movies in then killed him that would've been more impactful, Jessy Eisenberg wrongly cast as Lex Luther. And yes Bruce going around letting everyone knows who he is in the comics & animated Bruce was animate about keeping his identity secret. When I saw him throw his batarang at Barry I was like WTF? You just told him who you are the same could be said for Diana a person easily tell she's WW. Why not wear glasses like Lynda Carter did on the 70s WW TV show people could not tell her apart from WW. Yes, the slow motion way too much of that, Superman in the black outfit should've been saved for the last scene in the future with the scene of Batman, Mera, a bearded Flash, Cyborg & Joker. When Superman lands in front of them that's when he should be wearing the black suit because Lois was dead & he became a tyrant.
I remember enjoying the animated show.
slow motion is a lot like the horror movie jump scares you abuse it it becomes ineffective more gimmicky and an act of desperation to hold the audience's attention because you can't be creative or think of something else to do.
Damn Matt lol I feel sorry for you that must of been painful to sit through I hate all of Zack's movies style over substance it's always been that way. I'd much rather see the 170 min cut of Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever. I'll gladly sit through that over this any day.

This movie like the first is a badly written, colorless, pretentious, self-indulgant piece of crap! nice performances on Batman and Cyborg but the pacing is poor and the writing is substandard. This movie sucks! James Gunn is a better writer and director than Snyder as he puts color and fun into his movies.
I disagree big time but that's fine, I freaking loved this movie, better in every way then Whedon's Cut, Snyder once again shows how awesome he is as a director in my opinion, loved pretty much every second of this thing I'm serious, the cast did great, nice cinematography, awesome soundtrack by Junkie XL, I'm happy that DC did their own kinda build up compared to what the MCU did, do your own thing don't copy others, I still love MOS, BVS and now this movie, that's just my opinion though

Absolutely fantastic epic rant/review of the four hour Justice League, Matt. I highly respect your opinion as well, personally in my opinion. I only really like the 2017 Joss Whedon version, because at least it was better paced. had a personality & a sense of fun. so I think I will stick with that version on blu ray. thank you for this review Matt. this was up there with Thorias Unlimited's review & Jessi's review from Mindless Entertainment, of the film.

I didn't like it. Yeah the plot is better because now you know the bad guys motivation, but the films so boring and all the slow motion got on my nerves. I don't understand why I'm seeing so many people say that The Flash is different and this version is their favourite character in the film, he's still super annoying and cringy every time he speaks. I still don't think there's much character development either.

You should check out the Superman they got on Supergirl even though that show kinda sucks they at least got Superman and Clark Kent right. I like this version of the 2021 Justice League, the 2017 was disappointing, Steppenwolf was more imposing and badass this time around, the heroes are taken serious and the film 🎞 had more depth and there was more anticipation between every mother box 📦 , a long 4 hours but I still enjoyed it, Superman’s black suit is cool.

In Snyder's cut he wears the Black suit for no reason, no explanation and it's NOT because he needed to restore his powers because his powers was at 100% when he was resurrected and fought the other heroes. I didn't like it. The guy made the film twice as long and we got some more backstory that didn't serve the story of the actual film, nor build tension/drama. At best it was mildly improved due to the extra 2 hours. If the bar is so low that a director given yet another chance, another 70 mill and a further 2 hours is a little more bio info... Just not enough.

Same with The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus, which both also had high IMDB and rotten tomato scores. When John Carpenter's The Thing came out, critics and audiences at the time hated it...now it's a classic and deservedly so. I don't care what they think...I care what I/myself think. I like Batman's action scene in the Batmobile battling the parademons and I think thats the only good action scene of the whole movie.
The Superman vs Zod fight was like a bunch of September 11ths. Judging by all the destruction at least 100,000 people died. Superman the HERO would have drawn Zod out of metropolis. Batman is not a psycho killer into branding people. Zack Snyder hates these characters. WB made a disasterous decision having him kick off the DC universe.
Only one building collapsed, which was caused by Zod, during the fight with Zod in Metropolis, so you're definitely exaggerating the death toll. Plus, Superman did try to move Zod away from Metropolis but Zod kept breaking out of his grip and returning to fight among the skyscrapers.
Go read war of the Supermen there is destruction there or go watch Superman vs Darksied where Superman punches him into 5 buildings. Stop with that Superman bullshit narrative
The Fistful if Dollars trilogy, Ten Commandments and Skyfall were over 3 hours long, but we're still entertaining and I enjoyed them. The Snyder cut was boring.
I enjoy all 3 Fistful of Dollars movies. Skyfall is a good one, too.

I enjoyed the movie and would give it an 8.5/10, but one of my major issues is the 4-hour runtime. It DID NOT have to be 4-hours. And I agree that they should've done solo movies first instead of trying to catch up to Disney's MCU. Giving everyone solo movies would've easily chopped off 60 to 90 minutes of the movie. All the backstory on Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman would've been dealt with and we could just jump right in with their characters in a Justice League movie. Having to do a backstory on them just made the plot take a detour for a while. I got so caught up in Cyborg and Flash's stuff that I needed a moment or two to remind myself about the main plot. And a solo Batman movie or two would've helped out. Ben Affleck is fine, but I don't feel attached to him or Alfred. With the way they rushed things, I feel forced on liking Ben Affleck's Batman.
I also agree that most of the epilogue didn't need to happen. When we see Clark go down the alley and rip open his shirt to reveal his costume underneath and it cuts to black, THAT should've been when the end credits kicked in. The Lex Luthor and Deathstroke stuff should've been a scene halfway through the end credits, and then the Bruce and Martian Manhunter scene should've been a scene after the end credits. Then have the nightmare/dream stuff be the next movie's opening scene. Heck, even the Bruce Wayne and Martian Manhunter scene could be part of that opening scene too. When Martian Manhunter flies off and Bruce says "I guess I'll see you around," that's the cue for the opening credits. But when Cyborg's dad's closing speech/monologue ends and we see Clark rip open his shirt while going down the alley, THAT's when the movie should've ended. Everything after that should be optional, meaning that it should be during or after the end credits. I actually didn't mind the slow-mo stuff. It's whatever. I just shrugged at it. There was some minor things too that could've been left out. The women singing was not needed, or that whole Aquaman scene where he saves the guy and walks out of the bar and we see him in slow-mo for like 2 minutes.
Another thing I agree with is the black suit Superman wore. I'm aware it's supposed to help Superman heal, but it was never explained. They could've gave a quick explanation. Like a line of dialogue from the ship. To me, the black suit comes off as a personal fashion choice Superman made, or a personal fashion choice Zack Snyder made (for "to be cool" reasons). And even at the end when he takes off his clothes and reveals the costume underneath, it should've been the regular Superman costume and not the black suit. I even questioned that and scratched my head. That's when I really knew it had to be some personal fashion choice whether it was Clark's choice or Zack Snyder's choice. Actually, when Superman is revived, he looked pretty healed to me. The wound he died from was fully healed and his powers looked like they were at max power since he took on all the other members of the Justice League. So that further makes me believe the black suit was just a fashion choice.
So with all my complaints, I have to give the movie at least an 8.5/10. Maybe a 9/10 if I'm in a nice mood. I still had a lot of fun watching it, and it's a much better movie than the Joss Whedon cut, but it's not perfect. Still has flaws.
I like the movie I prefer this version but this movie looks grey no color. Movie is too long. The Avengers first movie was better and shorter

Nit picks? How does a full minute of women singing to Aquaman, which could easily be cut out & brought nothing to the proceedings except an already over-long running time, be considered a nitpick?
It seems to me you don’t understand the point of adding that scene to the film. They’re singing because they worship him because of the deeds he did for the people which adds some character development to Aquaman.
Superman wearing the black suit was pointless. The black suit is suppose to be the "recovery suit" (although it wasnt acknowledged) but he didnt need it because he had his powers at full capacity when he was in "pet semetary" mode. Alot of you DC Snyder fans didnt even noticed this.
Also I'm really glad that The Crow remake is in development hell. If they wanted to make a Crow movie it shouldn't be with Eric Draven that character belongs to the belated Brandon Lee. If you look at the comics and novels you have a whole other roster of characters who took on the mantle as the Crow with interesting creative ideas from males to females any one of those you could choose from but no you have to keep fucking it up spitting on Brandon's grave by trying to recreate his character the one he died portraying... it's fucked up.
The movie is better than the 2017, I'll be honest, but it was basically an extended 4 hour version 2017 movie I had to fast forward the 2017 portion and Darkseid was so wasted.

Yes he didn't get the characters! it seems like he' a fan of 90's comic books which is not a good thing. He's learned all the wrong lessons from Nolan's Dark Knight 1 and 2 as much as 90's comics learned the wrong lessons from Alan Moore and Frank Miller.
