Tbh the worst part about a broken collarbone aside from breaking it is trying to bathe yourself, change your shirt, use the bathroom, etc. I just broke mine playing rugby 3 days ago.
Shaylah Mae I broke my right one twice and bathing was the worst!! I would have to put my arm in a plastic bag and stick it outside the bath! Changing my clothes was even sorer tho.
Hey I see this was posted about a month ago. Im 17 and just broke my clavicle. You mind telling me how much you've recovered so far? So I know what to expect a month from now.
Mickie Presley your comment is from five days ago after about a month I could move mine and I took it out of the sling even though I was supposed it turns out fine but if it doesn't hurt to move it do it. You won't regret it the next week olny orthopedic said I could get rid of the sling. It gets better. I'm only 14 it was the worst time of my life that's all I have to tell you. Once you can exercise it do that too mine is still really week. Also lay propped up on the couch and take off the sling as long as it doesn't hurt don't move it just let it rest. Mine felt better out of the sling TBH. Hope it gets better soon. ❤️️
Mickie Presley hey dude, after day 1 i had it in a sling and was still cycling to and from work one handed, after about 3 weeks i came out the sling but would keep it in the sling when i slept (couldn't trust myself in my sleep lol) after about 5 weeks i could mountain bike (light trails no jumps etc) now it's beeen a good 2 months or so and i can do press ups with ease and am back mountain biking and working as a mechanic again! my tips are don't rush, ALWAYS stretch your arm out totally after having it in sling! after about 3 weeks try different movements see what you're capable of! it heals very very fast. i didn't have surgery i still have a big lump where the bone jabs out but i like it!
Mickie Presley i was on heavy painkillers for first 2/3 weeks too, and also i would advise taking zinc/magnesium/calcium tablets couple times a day to help boost your recovery! your experience with the break also depends on how fit you are and what your pain threshold is like! :) my local hospital didn't give me much information about it, so i did most of the research myself! if you need any questions answered feel free to ask i'll happily answer ! :) wish you a fast and easy recovery!
Hi mate, im 2 weeks into healing from mine breaking and this video is exactly what i wanted to hear. Your so right about the doctors not giving you a lot of info on what to expect. Thanks
@@aprilwah7023 Happy Easter! Whoops I haven’t been on here in a while but yea I did end up getting surgery. Around seven weeks later and come to find out I could have that same day I broke it but never had surgery before. So just thought let it heal on it’s own. It only healed so close together until it just did not move again. Had to get surgery it went fantastic a plate and six screws, ended up practicing and resuming football that season again two weeks later.
I broke mine playing foot balk with some friends.... Sort of... But after I broke it I was not able to get up until my friend helped me up called his mom and walked me to the car they dropped me off at my house. I couldn't walk because of the pain I sat down and the first 24 hours was like living hell after about a day or two we went to the er and the took xrays and they told me my bone was so displaced I would have to get surgery .they gave me a sling which helped me walk but still very hard.1 week later I got surgery then after about 2 weeks after surgery I started slowly regaing movement and strength now I am on week 5 (4 weeks after surgery) and I'm happy to say I have regained 40% of movement I can walk with ease and I can now take my splint off when I am not doing anything... Thx for reading
From my experience (3 days since break) a broken clavicle sucks. I am 14 and for me the pain wasn't too bad, I have drugs for pain relief of course, don't worry too much about the pain, the main part of it was the first day. It is though, REALLY uncomfortable and sleep is really hard, I find getting up once in a while and walking for a minute helps, good luck with your collar bones people! Thanks, this helped so much!
I can relate my young friend :), unfortunately I'm not 14 anymore, (I wish). I'm 50 with a twisted back and hip problems as a result, so I use a scooter to get around. My friend knows a little about electrical motors and so we took the electrical governor off of it so I can go 50 Km/h on it instead of 33 Km/h. It was a blast until I hit the front brake to hard and flipped over the top, breaking my collarbone. Oh well, not like it's going to prevent me from riding again some day-LOL. Although to way I feel today I'm not going any time soon.
Jacob Akroyd well im 13 and broke my 2 days ago and it didnt even hurt when I broke it even now it doesnt hurt unless I move fast I have no meds only problem is sleeping Also when I broke it I didnt even know but then I started seeing everything SUPER blurry!!!
Thank you for the video. I'm just laying in bed all day miserable with my broken clavicle from a cycling accident. This got my spirits up a bit. 6 days in and still a lot of pain. Looking forward to week 3.
Thank you for sharing. Helps me feel a bit better. It boggles my mind that I have to do this youtube search for non-medical advise from 2014 because the doctors provide so little information. Went to the ER again after a few days just so I could ask questions about what to expect. Even then, it bothers me that I have to go in with all of these questions. You'd think they would provide you with decent information such as timelines, what happens in the healing process and what's normal, when to really worry etc.
Same for me. I wasn't even allowed to see or speak to a doc. A nurse put me in a sling & was just sent a text next day saying I have an appointment in 3 weeks times for an assessment.
Had my collarbone fixed with a plate 4 weeks ago now & I'm feeling ok after a painful, tiring & frustrating time. But its ok & getting better. Be patient & don't try too hard too soon its just not worth it. Also be nice to your partner - you need them on your side for quite a while!!
Firstly PAIGE, weird & tight is very usual so don't worry about that. The break site on my collarbone got tighter the more it knitted together. I tried to keep the surrounding joints as mobile as possible to avoid anything freezing but I did find out the hard way not to put any load on it. 2 weeks is still very early days, give it another 2-4 weeks & (although nowhere near healed) it should start to feel significantly better. Try to be patient, good luck.
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Very useful information. Just broken mine. Difficult to understand the Dr in a&e, think he said it was broken in 3 places. Sent home with a sling and some painkillers. I have an appointment with fracture clinic in 6 weeks.
@@aprilwah7023 Some concern over the nature of the break and how it will heal. Some people have further problems and require surgical intervention while with others it settles down and they don't have any problems. I have concentrated on strengthening the shoulder and improving its mobility and it feels pretty good. I haven't tried swimming yet. This will be the real test regarding whether it has healed correctly and allows a full return to activities.
@Deepak Rautela It did not heal well. A non-union. Things had settled down but there is a weakness in the shoulder. I do not want surgery as I have had surgery on the shoulder for impingement issues a few years ago and I am not getting any younger. The consultant therefore thought an ultrasound guided steriod injection might help. I had this couple of weeks ago and it is too early to say whether it has made any difference yet.
Broke my collarbone in three places at a Tough Mann obstacle race nearly two years ago, I was back in light training after 7 weeks. It was left to heal by itself, so if you have broken it, have faith and it will heal in time.
I broke my collarbone just over a week ago and currently feel very sorry for myself. I was grateful for the medical attention received at ED but was given very little information . I was asked if I had any questions but few occurred to me at the time. Your information is much appreciated. I am seeing my GP tomorrow and feel more informed. Thank you.
I had a Broken collarbone. But i didn't know i actually had one until a year later cause no one trusted me. I was going around with a Broken collarbone a year without Any kind of help. And this was very helpful for me. And now Thanks to that no one helped me i have to go through a six months rehab for my injury. And since i was walking around with it for so long i have to rehab myself cause of trauma!!
@@itslogic9583 finding it really hard to believe, if u didnt notice having a broken collar bone. The doctors say its one of the most painfull bones to break by far, but insane if its really true.
Thank you! Broke mine almost a week ago now downhill mountain biking. Video really cleared up a lot of my questions and concerns that the hospital didn’t supply me with. The actual recovery time is probably the part that bummed me out most about this video. Ready to get back on the bike already.
Thanks for the information. just broke mine 4 days back and it hurts like hell. putting on a shirt now takes 10 minutes with crazy pain around the affected area. cannot wait for the second week
I just broke my left collar bone today at 1. Got too heavy on the front brakes of my cr125 and the front end washed out and resulted in the end of the handlebars jamming my shoulder. My bone is in two clear cut pieces and it hurts like a mofo every time it moves ever so slightly
Many thanks for this video. Just broke mine three days ago. The doc was very thorough, but a little short on what I should expect in the coming weeks. You've nicely filled these gaps. Thanks again!
748dukeboy ps: Yes, cycling accident too. Mountain bike, on an easy section of trail I've ridden a thousand times. Just... slick pine straw and a moment's inattention. Anyway, thanks again!
I broke my collarbone snowboarding in japan and had to go without pain relief for 6 days before finally flying back home to Australia and undergoing surgery. Rather then using a normal sling for my arm, the Japanese doctor gave me a figure 8 shoulder brace that works to pull the shoulders back allowing the bones to be pulled apart. Although not commonly recommended in Australia, I found this quite comfortable after awhile and my surgeon said its an effective brace. In theory it minimises the overlap between the snapped bone. Due to the snap being quite severe, I have gotten surgery to straighten out the bone. Since surgery I have decided to go back to using a conventional arm sling, although it still feels good to take my arm out of the sling and let it dangle by my side or rest on a pillow. A lot of my pain at the moment (post surgery) consists of very sore muscles in my neck and back, which I believe is somewhat caused by the sling. So it feels great to relief this additional stress pulling down on my shoulder by taking this sling off to sleep and stretch my arm out. These sore muscles are also caused by having to sleep in an upright position, using around 5 pillows to lean on. This is the only somewhat comfortable way I have found to sleep. I’m still in a great deal of pain but luckily now have pain killers and I am home safe. If any one has had a similar experience and can help me with future problems or any sort of discussion, I would love to help and be helped. Hopefully my story helps someone.
Very helpful mate, thank you. Just did mine, feels like fracture, not a break, but skin tenting. Going to doc tomorrow but will use 5 pillows per suggestion to not roll on it while sleeping. Thanks.
finally an informative video on the topic !! all the other vids had me feeing low !! 'hi i broke my collarbone 2 hours ago now I'm back in the gym rehabbing ' thanks again for posting .im 4 weeks in and still feeling disconnected ;(
"...the second week seems to be a little bit worse." Exactly what I wanted to hear. It is 11 days since I broke mine, and today is the worse pain yet. Not constant, but stabbing pains for a moment to a few minutes. I figured it would have been stuck together by now, but I feel the grind. I've only used over the counter naproxen and I've been surprised how little it has hurt. But the small amount of info the Dr. supplied had me worried that at this point something was going wrong. I feel better now. Thank you.
thank you for the comforting words. two weeks after my break & as you say the doctor doesn't tell you anything so hearing your perspective gives me more patience to let the healing occur and not push it too much.
Yeah hang in there Jacki, you're into that difficult third week where you want to do more but can't. Rest in the knowledge that you are over the worst bit so it should be onwards & upwards from here. Good luck!
@@omarreyes7329 that's literally what happened to me last week wtf, me on a bike and an idiot not checking his mirror before opening the door. Broken collarbone + broken ankle. Getting surgery tomorrow.
@@Vleeslucht Hey bro, I'm sorry to hear that. My collar bone accident literally turned my life upside down. I gained a lot of weight due to inactivity and depression. The doctors tried letting it heal for 3 months on its own and then decided to do surgery. It set back my healing process so long. Which in turn increased my inactivity, leading to more depression and weight gain. It's really hard to bounce back from sudden weight gain, innactivity, and depression. I'm just starting to get a rythym going after multiple attempts to getting my life back to before the accident. My advice to you bro is to keep your head up, life sometimes throws us down to build us back up even stronger. Trying getting as much information as possible about your bone, exercises, etc. The more you know the better. And watch what you eat/do more activities that you are allowed to do to stay in shape. It sucks that you also broke your ankle, I thought I had it bad. But yeah man! It makes me feel a bit better to know that other people have went through my hardship and that may have went through it worse, makes me feel blessed to know that it could of been worse but that it wasn't. There are a lot of people that die from bike accidents, etc. So in terms of that you also are blessed bro! One last thing, you are a true cyclist now that you have broken your collar bone, it's a right of passage, it's something us cyclists just do! Haha, you have your scar as a sign that you will keep forever!
@@omarreyes7329 thanks for the kind words my man💪🏽 the surgery went well and im feeling better by the day. Still havent walked since the accident and I cant lift up my arm on my own, but if everything will go down like the doctors said it will take about two more months before i can go to work again. And about being a true cyclist, I'm from Amsterdam so bicycles are basically running through my blood😂 I'm doing the excersises that my physiotherapist is advising me and I hope I won't have any permanent damage. Also good luck to you my brother, when we fall we make sure to come back even stronger!
I’m three weeks since my motorbike accident and trying to balance the pain of the broken collarbone, broken shoulder blade, 8 broken ribs and a punctured lung. It’s been a joy! Bit torn, as a sling supports the shoulder but pushes on the ribs. Even the medical team weren’t convinced it was the best plan. Thank God for pain killers, but I’m a bit concerned about the jutting bit of bone that I can see on my shoulder. Thanks for the video - feel a bit more reassured.
I love the video and i have watched it quite a few times for moral support, however people if you break your clavicle you should really consider surgery unless the break is minuscule, you can always get the plate removed later on anyway and personally id rather have a small scar then a lob sided shoulder.
I must have been really lucky. I crashed with my bike at 60 km/h two weeks ago and broke my collarbone. Now, two weeks later it only hurts when I put my arm in a weird angle or push with it against a surface hard. The first few days I experienced the symptoms that you described, like sleep problems, but it got better very quickly. I suspect that I only got a crack and not a full break where the bone sticks out of the skin. I do however feel a big lump on my right collarbone and it generally feels very different than my non-broken left collarbone.
@@Idk56373 man I’m so sorry to hear that…. It depends on the breaking tho. If you broke yours like a snap like when you snap a pencil and it’s still in tact then your healing process is going to be faster then usual (that’s how my collarbone broke). But if it’s broken and overlap each other then it’s going to be like 3-6 months to heal. Just wear your sling until the doctor tells you to stop wearing it. Be easy on it and try not to lift your arm up. The first 2 weeks are going to be very hard like showering, laying down, putting on clothes, etc… Rest as much as you can. I could lift my arm up without any pain in 3 weeks so just be resting and take it slow. Eat a lot of foods containing calcium because that helps with bones… vitamin c and d are good too. For us since we are young (im 17) our healing process is going to be faster then an adults… mines is still broken but I can lift stuff up, lift it high, move it all around without pain. It just hurts when I press on the collarbone area hard and I’m only a month in and the doctor said I’ll be back to normal and playing volleyball in 3 weeks. So rest as much, be careful with it, if you can’t do it don’t push yourself to do something, take pain killers and avoid narcotics because they are dangerous.
Broke my right collar bone at 17, mountain biking over far too big jumps from my skill level, I managed to break my left elbow, my right wrist and my right clavicle although my pain levels where very low as 2 days prior after the accident I did not need to take any supliments such as paracetamols and let it heal naturally after 3 days my pain was non existent and after one week visiting the gp they told me I am able to not wear a sling at home and now it has been 13 days since the accident and I'm feeling fine just a bump and two broken arms. But that was case for removing the sling ask a medical expert for approval
Awesome video thank you very much, I'm on week #7 and although it doesn't hurt as much it still feels tender. I had x- rays done again today an it still looks broken. I thought for sure I would need surgery but your video just made me feel a lot better.
I’m two and a half weeks in and found your advice very helpful. I will definitely be taking on board your advice about watching what I’m doing so thank you for that.
I broke my right collar bone 7 days ago in a century ride. [I was almost done, too! Mile 87 1/2!] It's a lateral fracture from end to end. Thanks for this advice.
how bad? How has it healed? I have a lateral, displaced fracture. And I am wondering...my concern is that even with the sling perhaps I a moving too much.
Good video - thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. I just broke (non displaced) my collar bone cycling and now - thanks to your video - I know better what to expect and how to manage my expectations. Cheers
Thanks for the excellent video. I recommend keeping the sling on 24/7 for four weeks to avoid re-breaking the bone. After six weeks, you can start doing gentle exercise to regain range of motion - but take it at your body's pace. It may take a number of months to be back to normal and as noted in the video, it takes a year for the bone to be fully mended. For sleeping, after about four weeks, try a figure eight support. You should be able to ditch the sling for good after six weeks. Happy healing.
broke my collars almost 2 weeks ago. past few days its been more painful than the first week. bone is sticking out lol. thanks for your advice hard to believe in 9 years your video has been the most informative I've found on real life experience. so thank you, btw is there a part 2 to this video.
Broke mine 3 days ago. Pretty clean break with noticeable bump.. havent needed any pain pills just ibuprofen and ice. Have almost full movement with little pain..the first time i broke it (different spot) pain was unbearable and needed surgery. Weird.
7 weeks into my broken collarbone being treated non surgically .. rugby injury .. very informative video as the doctors as far as I'm concerned are just useless at giving the right information and approach to what's actually happening .. still stiff all on that side but pain level from the broken bone has drastically declined but I find myself caught out sometimes with shoulder blade pain when I'm out and about .. it can be a total nightmare .. I keep telling myself to just keep going because to be honest it's an awful situation to have to deal with especially if your anyway athletically inclined it's gonna be a major pull on your mental health .. best advice for that is to never give up .. your your own best believer and if your like me and you love a good fight this situation is a great one
Broke my CollarBone by a Mayonnaise Jar falling on my shoulder. funny story ... It was those big Mayonnaise Jars you get from Sams Club.. I'm in pain as I type this.. and to top it off my birthday is in 2 days 😭
All great advice, A point to note is there is a thick periosteum around the clavicle which helps support it while healing, while allowing small movement, unlike a lot of other bone that need immobilisation. Watching this as I'm a week into a broken femur and clavicle in a motorbike accident. The femur overshadowed the clavicle so haven't really noticed it!
Any fellow dirt bikers out killing themselves? I just snapped my collar bone in half yesterday and oh boy does changing shirts feel like hell!! If I have the option to get metal pins in I'm totally taking it!!
I broke my right clavicle on the 28th and will be having surgery on the 10th; from a purely physics point of view I can't see why this wouldn't be standard practice.
Thailand, snapped Clav, no insurance...£4000... had plates and screws... now week 6-7 still very painful...now i get pain in back of shoulder, down arm. Doc said plate wrong size... your video has cheered me up thanks
really appreciate this video still in week one of healing and have had no guidance. video had me laughing crying and angry at the same time .....which hurt my shoulder. Soooo a full 8 weeks at least.....shite! Doctors are lying ba****ds should have pushed for the plate
Thanks. Fell off my bike. I'm 20. I was worried af, I've seen 3 different doctors they keep telling me it will be alright without surgery, got a figure 8 strap. It's bumped out a little, no one notices except me. 3 weeks now. Wish you all good luck
Mine broke in 3 or 4 places, I had a operation 4 weeks ago. They put in a metal plate and three or four screws, but the operation cause me to get a blood clot in my arm, that actually hurt worse than the broken bone and now I'm on blood thinners for the next 3 months. The side effects from the painkillers were so bad that I only took them for a day and a half after the operation, the pain sucked, but it was better than the side effects. I bought a little bit smaller dual sport and don't really have plans on riding for another 2 months
thanks for this. starting week 2. 54 yr old, jumped my om-duro off a curb and crashed on the sidewalk. broken bone doesn't hurt much but occasional horrible nerve pain radiating down arm. sling aggravates it so i'm just partially zipping my jacket and supporting my wrist in there. wishing everyone a speedy recovery
No worries W DB, glad you enjoyed it. Martin, I'm a big motorbike fan myself & there's an irony in the fact that everyone kept telling me how dangerous they are & yet I go & smash myself up on my push bike. Good idea to get it looked at again. Good luck.
You're right Mike b , if you break a collarbone whilst skiing in Europe they do put you in a brace that you mention. My Doctor asked for the nurse to provide me with such a thing but she laughed & said we don't use anything like that here! He clearly had just landed..lol. I think private is the way to go if funds are available.
8 weeks post op / 9 weeks post break ... Mine was a mm away from bursting through the skin with 2 other shattered fragments .. surgery was the only option. Recovery has only JUST started making massive progress. Great video mate. Defo more informative than the doctos ive been dealing with
Very good vid I’m currently in Turkey 🇹🇷 paragliding had a small accident on take off ended up 3 broken ribs & collar bone 🦴 excactly as you described .I left hospital said I ‘ll be back tomorrow as I have my dog with me in camper all they want to do is operate noo thanks I’ll take my chances & at 65 who cares about lumps & bumps sticking out 😅must say ribs are driving me mad 😡 guess no paragliding for couple months let’s see but great vid I know your not a medical person but, coming from someone like you I feel much better
This was so helpful! Broke mine 4 weeks ago and have been obsessing and constantly feeling the sharp end wondering why it's still sharp. Not as far along as I would have thought I was going to be at 4 weeks.
I braved an hour car journey unmedicated with a snapped collar bone, adrenaline meant i didnt feel it unless i moved. Metal plate in 2 days later. 16months later I just had it removed, which was 2 weeks ago. This second part after removal is guessing game at the moment, any questions I can try help with let me know. And dont let it get you down, it happens, do the process and get yourself back to full fitness
Shhhhit, thanks a lot for the advice mate. I’ve been lucky it broke without dislocation. Its been now 18 days since I broke it and I was getting a bit too confident about it. Hearing you snapped it again has really gave me a heads up 🥴 Best of luck for you all
In recovery after two months. Your comments are absolutely correct. I am now using elliptical and mild mobility exercises. I will start Total Gym exercises and listen to my body as to how much I can do. Excellent coverage of this topic. THANK YOU👍.
Thanks so much for this my 14 yr old son is in a lot of pain and yes they didn't really explain much about it and how the healing will work Hope ur back to normal and thanks again your vid is just what we needed to hsar
Broke mine about three months ago and things are looking good for me. How I broke it was a bad mountain bike accident. Could barely adjust my self in the chair. Glad is over 😖 hurt like hell ☹️ every one else who has a broken collarbone heal well 🤞
Broke mine about 2 weeks ago. It was only a small break but both ends of the bones held together and stayed in place. I was popping in and out of my sling within a week with limited activities. There is now a very large lump forming around the place of break and on track for a speedy recovery however since I have been taking it out of the sling I have been tempted to do silly activities I shouldn’t be doing and I’ve hit it a few times. Advice for anyone with a broken collar bone. JUST SIT IT OUT. It’s worth it. I hit it when it was out of the sling and believe it’s going to add about another 2 weeks to my 7 week healing time predicted by my doctor. I was really worried when I first felt the lump as it was growing in a very strange direction. If you have any worries just go and see a doctor it’s worth it. Hope this comes in handy
Thanks for video I found this really really useful and am currently going though similar. You inspired me to do my first TH-cam video on my experience, cheers ed
Newest member here. Just got an overlapping fracture on my right clavicle, sadly its my dominant side . Got 21 staple wires for removal on 13th of this month and a plate inside with 6 screws for life. I have been using my arms even with slings.
Thank you so much for posting this, I found it very helpfull and comforting,....Im 50 and broke my left collarbone and 3 ribs falling off a scooter, 4 weeks ago, and spent a day in the hospital barely able to move, having never broke a bone in my life this was very traumatic,.... the collarbone broke in 2 spots and hurt bad , but the ribs really added to it , just getting out of bed the first few days was excruciating , coughing or sneezing, deep breathing was unbearable , broken ribs force you to breathe shallow and you get fluid build up which can easily lead to pneaumonia, and would.nt that be lovely on top of everything else , I was told by the ER doctor that surgery was unlikely, well that bit of good news was squashed 2 weeks later when I saw the orthopedic surgeon and they did new x rays, and said surgery with a plate was a must, due to too much bone displacement , its been 2 weeks now since the surgery and it feels very sore stiff and tight , hopefully things will improve in the weeks to come .
Loved this. I broke my collarbone almost 7 weeks ago. Needed the painkillers for a month and a bit more. Have done a few rides on the stationary bike and today started some swimming with a board. Like other people I was not really told when you can start exercising and what exercises you can do . My new hero is Tyler Hamilton who broke his collarbone on the Tour-De-France got back on his bike and finished the stage. Phew impressive.🚴♂
Good video I broke mine 3 weeks ago at motorcross I've been for lazer bone therapy at a private clinic to help speed up the healing process would highly recommend it to anyone what I would say is not to have your arm in a sling at the clinic they gave me a shoulder brace to wear it's basically a figure of 8 wrap over your shoulders to keep your shoulder back, the therapist went on to say we are the only country that would put you in a sling for a broken collar bone and that is the opposite to what you should do for it as it's pulling your shoulder in and making the bones over lap further, I had the therapy a week after breaking mine and the day after I was driving and able to do slot more with my arm especially with the brace on, mine broke in one place but also had a chunk of bone floating between one end is poking up with a sharp bit as you said but 3 weeks later that has rounded off a bit I'm certainly not ready to ride yet but a few sessions of therapy is highly recommended to speed things up
My bone broke and it was displaced but i didnt want surgery, i stayed in the sling for 2 months til i was sick of it and just used my arm normally. Fast forward 3 years im back in a sling waiting to get an x ray because it hurts so bad
Very informative and hit the mark with almost everything I'm experiencing 6 weeks after my crash (though i also broke my hip so double trouble) Thanks a lot
I broke my collar bone 20 days ago on a MTB training ride. I fell pretty hard and was in pain but didn't know it was broken. Got back on the bike and did another mile before I realised something was wrong. It's my right side and while on the bike I touched it with my left hand and immediately knew it was broken. Jumped off the bike and called a friend. It was 5:30am but he showed up in 20 minutes and took me to the A&E. They took one look at it and told me it was a clean break with slight displacement and a cracked rib under my arm pit...but I didn't need surgery. Advised me that surgery can cause nerve damage that might never heal. Anyway, went private for a second opinion and was told the same thing. The private doctor gave me a shoulder brace that keeps the shoulder stable and now 20 days later it seems to be healing slightly awkwardly but the pain is almost gone and I have to go back for a check up this week. Hoping it will be fine and that it heals perfectly. Thanks!
I didn't even know mine was broken for a while. I got a hard check in a hockey game 2 hours from my house and thought it was just a shoulder problem. Finally got it checked 6 hours later and got a sling. It was a very clean break that was far apart.
collar bone injury squad.

I broke mine 6 days ago
Thanks
It’s been a week and a day man. We gotta keep going pain is progress. We can all get through this.
Did u need surgery?
@@aprilwah7023 Happy Easter! Whoops I haven’t been on here in a while but yea I did end up getting surgery. Around seven weeks later and come to find out I could have that same day I broke it but never had surgery before. So just thought let it heal on it’s own. It only healed so close together until it just did not move again. Had to get surgery it went fantastic a plate and six screws, ended up practicing and resuming football that season again two weeks later.
@@marcusq832 I’m having surgery tomorrow.. did you have to wear a sling?
3weeks in and still in agony xx
I broke my left collarbone and my left arm is the arm i write with it and it is horrible i hate sleeping it is by far the worst part if my day
Lawson Jones I cant even sleep 🤦🏼♀️
may brown same here!
Exact same with me, I broke it the other day on a quad bike accident! Oops
Same problem bike accident

Im 3weeks in, can i still join as im still in pain!!!! Please? 💙
I'm 12 and I broke mine but the didn't give me any meds
Jacob Akroyd well im 13 and broke my 2 days ago and it didnt even hurt when I broke it even now it doesnt hurt unless I move fast
I have no meds only problem is sleeping
Also when I broke it I didnt even know but then I started seeing everything SUPER blurry!!!
>pain meds at 14
i can relate too mahn im only 12
Thank you for the video.
Am really happy for this video more especially for living in an area were there no better medical facilities.
Same here😅 thanks @748dukeboy. The information you provided in detail is just what I need. ❤
How are you doing now?
Did u needed surgery?
Thanks for the hope!
@@aprilwah7023 No probs, hope the recovery is going ok

I broke my collarbone just over a week ago and currently feel very sorry for myself. I was grateful for the medical attention received at ED but was given very little information . I was asked if I had any questions but few occurred to me at the time. Your information is much appreciated. I am seeing my GP tomorrow and feel more informed. Thank you.
cant sleep watching this 2 in the morning, broken collar bone
I have to say though (and I know no one is listening but it feels good to say) this is the THE most reassuring video I have seen.
I'm listening, glad it helped you out :)
What the fuck. You really did that? Wow. How are you doing now?
@@itslogic9583 finding it really hard to believe, if u didnt notice having a broken collar bone. The doctors say its one of the most painfull bones to break by far, but insane if its really true.

Very Helpful Mate thanks. You did well sharing your information from a UK perspective. All hail the NHS.

Really glad it helped Rob! Good luck with the recovery.
Thank you.
broke my collar bone 10 days ago. I was given very little information at the time so this video was very interesting for me. Thanks.
I didn’t cry until my dad was driving me to the hospital
I didn't hurt more than mild soreness fir 3 days. Still git it checked day 1 fortunately
thank you for the comforting words. two weeks after my break & as you say the doctor doesn't tell you anything so hearing your perspective gives me more patience to let the healing occur and not push it too much.
Yeah hang in there Jacki, you're into that difficult third week where you want to do more but can't. Rest in the knowledge that you are over the worst bit so it should be onwards & upwards from here. Good luck!
Thank you once again
thanks, just broke it biking myself...
Same, someone oppened their door while not looking in their mirror and messed me up. I'm depressed now
Same I didn’t give my bike enough throttle and slid out
@@omarreyes7329 that's literally what happened to me last week wtf, me on a bike and an idiot not checking his mirror before opening the door.
Good luck with the healing there Paul. Sounds like you had a bad'n.
I love the video and i have watched it quite a few times for moral support, however people if you break your clavicle you should really consider surgery unless the break is minuscule, you can always get the plate removed later on anyway and personally id rather have a small scar then a lob sided shoulder.
thank you ,my mind is at ease,my son's in the hospital right now bouncing off the bed,God bless you for this video.
Just broke mine today thank you for the information😞
Thank you! A lot more informative than my doctor
Glad it was helpful Tom. Keep mending!
@@xchrissx I broke mine 2days ago do you have any tips? I’m 14
Did it end up healing or did you get it checked later?
I’m two and a half weeks in and found your advice very helpful. I will definitely be taking on board your advice about watching what I’m doing so thank you for that.
I broke my right collar bone 7 days ago in a century ride. [I was almost done, too! Mile 87 1/2!] It's a lateral fracture from end to end. Thanks for this advice.
What a bummer! You'll be back on another century before you know it I'm sure. Good luck!
Just rebroke mine 3 weeks in in my sleep so depressing
broke my collars almost 2 weeks ago. past few days its been more painful than the first week. bone is sticking out lol. thanks for your advice hard to believe in 9 years your video has been the most informative I've found on real life experience. so thank you, btw is there a part 2 to this video.

Broke mine 3 days ago. Pretty clean break with noticeable bump.. havent needed any pain pills just ibuprofen and ice. Have almost full movement with little pain..the first time i broke it (different spot) pain was unbearable and needed surgery. Weird.
Depends on the kind of break You sustain 🙃 not all are so lucky

I broke mine a day before my birthday 🙃 knowing it won’t be usable for 2-3 months really blows
All great advice, A point to note is there is a thick periosteum around the clavicle which helps support it while healing, while allowing small movement, unlike a lot of other bone that need immobilisation.

Hey you! Yes you! I was also in your situation 8 weeks ago, don't you worry it will get better in time.
thanks for this. starting week 2. 54 yr old, jumped my om-duro off a curb and crashed on the sidewalk. broken bone doesn't hurt much but occasional horrible nerve pain radiating down arm. sling aggravates it so i'm just partially zipping my jacket and supporting my wrist in there. wishing everyone a speedy recovery
Thank you for sharing. My break is exactly like yours. This perspective helps.
Thank you so much for posting this, I found it very helpfull and comforting,....Im 50 and broke my left collarbone and 3 ribs falling off a scooter, 4 weeks ago, and spent a day in the hospital barely able to move, having never broke a bone in my life this was very traumatic,.... the collarbone broke in 2 spots and hurt bad , but the ribs really added to it , just getting out of bed the first few days was excruciating , coughing or sneezing, deep breathing was unbearable , broken ribs force you to breathe shallow and you get fluid build up which can easily lead to pneaumonia, and would.nt that be lovely on top of everything else , I was told by the ER doctor that surgery was unlikely, well that bit of good news was squashed 2 weeks later when I saw the orthopedic surgeon and they did new x rays, and said surgery with a plate was a must, due to too much bone displacement , its been 2 weeks now since the surgery and it feels very sore stiff and tight , hopefully things will improve in the weeks to come .
how are things now? would you recommend surgery or is it better to heal itself?
Good video I broke mine 3 weeks ago at motorcross I've been for lazer bone therapy at a private clinic to help speed up the healing process would highly recommend it to anyone what I would say is not to have your arm in a sling at the clinic they gave me a shoulder brace to wear it's basically a figure of 8 wrap over your shoulders to keep your shoulder back, the therapist went on to say we are the only country that would put you in a sling for a broken collar bone and that is the opposite to what you should do for it as it's pulling your shoulder in and making the bones over lap further, I had the therapy a week after breaking mine and the day after I was driving and able to do slot more with my arm especially with the brace on, mine broke in one place but also had a chunk of bone floating between one end is poking up with a sharp bit as you said but 3 weeks later that has rounded off a bit I'm certainly not ready to ride yet but a few sessions of therapy is highly recommended to speed things up
Thanks. Needed this. Not completely healed after 8 weeks. Still quite painful at times
My bone broke and it was displaced but i didnt want surgery, i stayed in the sling for 2 months til i was sick of it and just used my arm normally. Fast forward 3 years im back in a sling waiting to get an x ray because it hurts so bad
Very informative and hit the mark with almost everything I'm experiencing 6 weeks after my crash (though i also broke my hip so double trouble) Thanks a lot
thanks for the advice, broke mine yesterday while cycling.
1 month in and no healing. Super tough. Mine was a car accident and considered a seatbelt injury.
Thank you for the video.
Thanks!
Same case here
Buddy you're all right?
@@rabingautam8915same here. Did you recovered well buddy?
Yes thanks. Now it's fully healed. Can do pushups without any issues. Thanks 🙏
@@viralfire it's been nice to heard that you're all right. How old are you though?
I didn't even know mine was broken for a while. I got a hard check in a hockey game 2 hours from my house and thought it was just a shoulder problem. Finally got it checked 6 hours later and got a sling. It was a very clean break that was far apart.
